IMF Reduces Pakistan's GDP growth forecast.

A country that itself wants exports is making infrastructure for the Chinese to flood their markets with cheap imports is strange to say the least :lol:

Thus far Indian goods have monopoly in Pakistan... competition will help India to improve the quality of smuggled products to Pakistan.

.
That may be another way to look at it.

The whole idea of CPEC was to propel Pakistan at the growth rates of India and BD.

There was no chance of that happening. You first need to create a proper policy to attract investment before building infrastructure. Pakistan built infrastructure when the demand for said infrastructure is non-existent.

The Pak-China FTA has murdered their economy. Half of Pakistan's trade deficit comes from China.

People think CPEC is not the cause of the debt problem, but they don't talk about how CPEC opened up the flood gates for China's goods in the last 3 years, with Pakistan making concessions after concessions for Chinese imports. And what's funny is the people here blame Sharif for this problem, while the main culprit is the Pak Army and their pressure on the civilian govt to give the Chinese trade concessions.

With the Chinese offer to trade in yuans, the Chinese are practically making Pakistan an economic dependency. Buy oil from the Middle East, buy everything else from China. And this will slowly kill Pakistani industries.

You went about it all wrong.

The way I see it, Pakistan will have positive GDP growth because of CPEC. If it wasn't for CPEC, Pak would have seen a recession.

You are right, CPEC investments have pushed up pakistan GDP growth,

But if you look at the quantum of the total FDI flowing into pakistan, its actually reducing.

Now this is the Debt to GDP which is consistently rising.

So a growing Debt to GDP ratio and a decreasing FDI is only going to increase future burden of the CPEC loans.

Indian goods :what: Bhai India mein bhi Made in China is ruling toh aap ke yaha kaha se Indian goods aa gaye but even if true China will now wipe everybody out, their selling price is less than our manufacturing cost

CPEC will cause huge debt burden to in current times, but in 30-40 years, when China GDP would cross $ 25-30 trillion,it should prove to be a benefit for Pakistan

It does more than kill pakistani industry, it also destroys their environment since one of the biggest CPEC industry is Chinese mining in pakistani soil.

china has set up coal mining and coal powered units in pakistan who's cost of electricity is MORE than electricity produced in India. It will cost them Rs. 10 per unit.

India produces solar electricity in the same thar region for Less than Rs. 2.4 per unit.

Like they say, chinese Fraandship is not cheap.

Pakistan has a lot of potential. And if managed properly today it could've been economically on par with South Korea.

The whole subcontinent is a message. No doubt. But if things have gone differently Pakistan could have been in a much better position. And if they still can sort their own house, they will develop much faster than India or BD.

Pakistan is geographically located in a very good strategic area. This could have been a boon but this so far has been a curse. Mostly thanks to Afghanistan. And hostility with India didn't help either. Iran was good in its early days. But then Mullahs got in to power. And since then less said about Iran the better. China has mostly been a poor nation till a while back. Now China is becoming a world power. And Pakistan will get benefits from it.

Pakistan was developing well. Ayub Khan did well with economy. He had other issues. But economy was doing good. Back then more money should have been spent on education and for other betterments. But more money went to military. Then Bhutto destroyed the system and brought socialism. I sometimes hear, Bhutto is still alive. Then may he live long. And After Bhutto, Zia created a situation where mullahs could thrive. Injecting mullahism. And with this recipe for disaster was complete.

Foreign policy wise, Pakistan was close to USA. Then their priorities changed. USA started misusing a lot of things in th name of friendship with Pak. It could never closely ally itself Russia because of Russia's closeness with India. So they went to China. And now it seems in some cases, China has taken Pakistan's support for granted. As if Pakistan has nowhere else to go.

Even now if Pakistan can sort their house out they will grow quickly. They are located in a very strategic area. Strategic for economic activities. Karachi is one of the best geographically located ports in the world. They are not that densely populated like Bangladesh or India. It has lots of free space waiting development. It has good amount of natural resources too. If this country is managed properly then it will improve very fast leaving India and Bangladesh behind.
