What's new

IMF Reduces Pakistan's GDP growth forecast.

CPEC failure don't necessarily mean PTI uprooting the roads and bridges.
Very first measure after assuming power, which Imran Khan took like a dictator was to hit at CPEC, as a consequence Chinese demanded clarifications, whereupon dilly dallying Imran Khan was forced to made U trun, but the damage is done already.
I bet China is already reviewing their plans and CPEC is going to be limited now.
Whereas bureaucracy in Pakistan go the message, to scale back active co-operation to CPEC projects.
There will be NO new projects. welcome to naya Pakistan.

CPEC will grow even more stronger fyi.

The government is irrelevant in this regard

The rampant abuse of power in the society will ensure that justice will always be preferential and a tool of victimisation.

This we'll see more and more in coming days... govt. is already victimizing Bahria Town, apparently for no legal grounds.
How legal is that govt. go in to a private property, and destroy houses and buildings with no apparent legal reasons.
New govt. is here to destroy the hard working middle class and give away to the USELESS youthias for free.... reminds me of bhutto's student and labor union concept.

I dont care much for Land disputes.

Land belongs to Allah. End of discussion.

But the perception that this is all political victimization will gather pace since the government cannot flock its own machinery.

Good times if you are a Troll. Bad News if you have any illegal wealth or are directly dependant on the looting party.

Inside my heart i hope for this.

Land belongs to Allah, but for Pakistan same land brings much needed forex and Bahria town save Pakistani expats from getting robbed by the govt.
Expats have their investments protected in Bahria Town, families living in safety, while they work abroad and send more $ to families.
On the other hand, Politicians who come to power through back doors see Bahria Town a direct threat to their income, which they will have otherwise by stealing and robbing overseas Pakistan.

CPEC= China debt trap policy. Pakistan must diversify its economy instead of relying just on Chinese development, I hear Chinese are even bringing their own labour. So even low skilled jobs won't go to Pakistanis.

Hasn't IMF been asking the Pak government to provide CPEC details? Isn't it obvious that no party other than the government's of Pak and China are aware of the intricate details of CPEC and how it will help revive the Pak economy?

Then these figures have obviously been calculated without accounting for CPEC's benefits and the trade / revenue that Pak expects to generate from it.

Let the Pak government share CPEC details over the next few months and we can all make up our own minds as to what benefits it will have for Pak.

. . .
Process and then talk please.

The link is to a prediction on how IMF thinks Pakistan's GDP will grow over the next 5 years. It is not an article that has a title.
As IMF predict Pakistan's growth will go down, they are predicting CPEC will fail.

Do not shoot the messenger here buddy.

You went about it all wrong.

The way I see it, Pakistan will have positive GDP growth because of CPEC. If it wasn't for CPEC, Pak would have seen a recession.

Don't make yourself look a ignorant. CPEC is long term strategic plan that has timelines extending to 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. So how can you judge it's failure when it extends well beyond the 5 year snap that IMF took?

its more of a projected which will span for a whole generation and its true value will only be seen after that.

That may be another way to look at it.

The whole idea of CPEC was to propel Pakistan at the growth rates of India and BD.

Pakistan growing at 3% in medium term ? That’s very depressing. Even more depressing if one considers Pakistan’s population growth.

IMF's WEO database says otherwise, even though this is dated April 2018. It was still clear even then to anyone that we would approach them for a bailout, oil prices were already forecast to rise at the start of the year:

I'm not sure how credible those figures you have are OP. I don't see how we'd arrive at a prolonged period of 3% growth. Also, any and all estimates at this point are quite useless. These forecasts are accurate for about the next fiscal year or two. That's why you see those three consecutive 5% figures above.

Even if it's about 5% growth, that's disappointment, 3% would be horrific and I don't believe it will be that bad.
