United States President Barack Obama [Images] said that he is laying the foundation of an education system which would help America compete with China and India in the 21st century.

"We have already taken some steps that are building the foundation for a 21st century education system here in America, one that will allow us to compete with China and India and everybody else all around the world," Obama told a cheering crowd in Warren Michigan where he announced the American Graduation Initiative.

After entering the White House and even during his election campaign last year, Obama has been urging American parents to gear up and focus on studies of their kids as students from countries like China and India are marching ahead.

"At the start of my administration I set a goal for America: By 2020, this nation will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world. We used to have that. We're going to have it again," Obama said amidst applause from the audience.

Announcing the American Graduation Initiative, which is aimed at reaching the goal of having the highest college graduation rate in the world, he said, "We are going to achieve this in the next 10 years."

"It will reform and strengthen community colleges like this one from coast to coast so they get the resources that students and schools need -- and the results workers and businesses demand. Through this plan, we seek to help an additional five million Americans earn degrees and certificates in the next decade," Obama said.

Under the new initiative the emphasis would be on community colleges, which train youths with necessary skills that would fetch them jobs.

"Many young people are saving money by spending two years at community college before heading to a four-year college. And more workers who have lost their jobs -- or fear losing a job -- are seeking an edge at schools like this one," he said.

Jewish puppet Obama is just whispering sweet nothings into your ear. Pay attention to actions not promises. :smitten:

highest preportion.... if the country of china and India dont some how collapse it may not be possible simple due to them having more people, like if 20 out of 20 student in us graduate but 22 out of 40 graduate in china... their percentage is lower but the number is higher.

I don't think china 's Edu system can compete with USA

Have you ever been to US?? trust me on this, elementary and Highschool education standards of US is way behind that of India. I never been to China so i dont know about Chinese education system. In science and Mathematics, average Indian students is 2 or 3 year ahead of their US counter parts. However, universities in US are world class standards.

I agree school system is way ahead of america but indian university are way ahead too but comparing to good ones. I mean the biggest problem indian face is where and how ot get an admission in his choosen professional course and how to get admission in his choosen university. competition is too much here.

I forgot to mention about this in my above post. A high volume of students and professors are either educated or born in Outside united states especially in Maths and Science departments. Infact my Physics professor is from Banglades (Dr. Parvez Sultan).

Here is a graph of Harvard University's(Considered as No.1 in the world) enrollment by ethnicity, u can clear see either asians or non-resident aliens are the second/third most in number.

If you take out the blinkers, the bigger problem is educating the millions who never get a chance to complete primary, let alone see the inside of a lecture hall in a university. The problem of educating the girl child, the street urchin, the beggar on the street. The problem of solving the problem of the greatest number of people that are illeterate than at any given time in a single country in history.

India has a long way to go before it becomes a model education system that a certain individual would like his daughters, Malia Ann and Sasha to belong to !!
