First of all, HK416 does not use the same gas-pston mechanisim that G36 has. their designes are a little bit different because of the shape and the barrel lenght of the rifles. Secondly, its not only or special for the HK. Even in US there are tons of convert kits produced by different various of companies for the M4/AR15 series rifles and US Army is started to modifiying their M4s with gas-piston too...

The main difference between the gas-piston of Hk416 and others are the gas-piston of the HK416 can be setting up to fire subsonic ammunution, which has less muzzle velocity to make the rifle more silent when it was using with suppressor. As you may understand how it's critical about special forces usage....

But the other gas-piston rifles like the SIG516, or LMT Defender, or the MPT too. They are all have fixed gas piston systems which were adjust to fire standard ammunution.If you want using them with subsonic, you have to change all gas-piston system otherwise rifle just became a bolt action rifle....

It's more like this:

HK417 = AR-10 + G36 gas piston
MPT-76 = AR-10 + MPT gas piston

HK didn't invent the short-stroke gas piston with the G36. They took an existing idea and improved on it to produce the G36 system. Guess what Kale did with the MPT? They took an existing idea and improved on it to produce the MPT short-stroke gas piston. The MPT gas piston isn't the same as the G36 (if it was we would be sued). Kale didn't copy the HK417, they simply followed the same design approach HK did (basing it off the AR). If you want to call the MPT-76 a "clone" because it's an AR-pattern with gas-piston, then you should also call the HK416/417 a "clone" of the AR-18 from the 1960s.

Its a HK-417 clone not because it has a gas piston, but because it has the very same slightly modfied one of the HK-417. To me it all comes down to that. Not the AR-10/15 platform or any of that.

SAS stands for Sualtı Savunma in Turkish. It is Navy EOD unit. SAS has deployed to dispose IEDs of PKK in Cizre.
