‘Too upset and angry’: Muslim teen barred from top London school for wearing veil quits

Good decision. There is no such thing as enclosing oneself in an envelope in Islam. Covering face has nothing to do with Islam. Islam asks its followers to chose the middle of the road path, and covering face is definitely not it. This practice existed in many medieval cultures prior to Islam, and some of them have maintained their cultural practices. Muslim scholars need to educate Muslims to avoid associating certain cultural practices with Islam and avoid taking things to extreme. It does them no favor but only isolate them from the rest of the humans and make them suspecious. Head scarves fine, covering face has no place in todays modern world, period.

they asked a girl not wear veil in school in UK,,,,n all hell breaks loose here.
what about the same n more(no beard, burqa, fasting, raiding mosques) going on in china.
obviously not hypocrisy,,because UK is secular and China is communist.,,,,right.
actually its not hypocrisy,,,,its 'give them an inch, they will take a mile'

It was required by Prophet's (PBUH) wifes and it ends there. Scholar's interpretition is wrong when they sought the same for all Muslim women. Nothing was stopping Allah from making it mendatory for remaining Muslim women but he made no such mention in his book. Scholars must be careful putting their words (naaoz-billah) in Allah's mouth. One can argue that it would be desirable but not that it is mendatory.

Come on yaar, dont turn blind eye towards what restrictions and criticism they are making to destroy all Muslim values
if she wants to preserve muslim values, why does nt she go to Saudi arabia or Pakistan, the land of pure milk and honey??

I wonder how people missed this bit?

So the school says its ok to dress up like a slut (though that too is against the rules) but no way can you make any other choice apart from that?
Almost all Muslim women in India wear niqab in public;I am yet to see a girl or a woman who covers her face with veil in schools, colleges or work places. What this girl did was attention seeking. She is no different from a girl who seeks attention by revealing boobs and thighs.

Its not in the UK citizenship rule and UK doesnt ban veil... at least not in as a rule/ law...hence again you are wrong to take that analogy

Please do not forget that the basic issue here is between a student and a private school over an issue of dress code, with a policy that is quite clear, fair and applied to all without discrimination. It has nothing to do with citizenship or laws governing wider society.

I am talking about British laws of freedom of religion and thought and stuff....it is in their constitution either remove it and declare themselves a Christian or whatever country

Please remember that UK does NOT have a written Constitution at all, so your statement does not make any sense the way you have said it.

Aside from Quran, there are Hadeeths and Sunnah which are followed by Muslims.
In that, you learn the lifestyle of Prophet and emulate it.

Sunnah is the way of life prescribed as normative for Muslims on the basis of the teachings and practices of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and interpretations of the Quran

You are the one and the only Muslim that I have come across which says the above "It was required by Prophet's (PBUH) wifes and it ends there"

It is incumbent upon each and every Muslim to follow Sunnah for the rest of their lives and there are no two opinions about such. It is a conventional wisdom of Ummah and Ulamas....

Went through the first few pages, basically its the case of 'whites are always right', no matter what argument you bring in. Obviously very few will put it like that, but that's what I get from some of the comments.

There is a difference between being a Muslim and adopting Arabic culture. I am a proud Muslim but I am not ready to become an Arab. Again, Islam encourages its followers to adopt middle-of-the-road approach and getting the woman enclosed in a huge envelope is nowhere near that. Sunnah is fine but as long it is in line with Quran. Besides, because tooth brush was not in Mohammed's (PBUH) time or cars/airplanes were not in his time does not mean that I have to stick to the wooden branch for cleaning my teeth or riding the beast of burdon to follow his sunnah. Sunnah is not cleaning your teeth with a wooden branch but to maintain good oral hygeine. The same applies to other hadiths.

Aren't there any good madrassas in Londonistan? I am sure she wouldn't be too upset and angry there.

The face veil or burkha..i blv these are not islamic, but more of arab culture....

Its is more of a religious matter than a cultural one, when we discuss the issue of Niqab.
Wahabis and Salafis are Muslims first. More, its backed by a Fatwa.

Now you would want to turn around and say that "That fatwa does not stand out" type ?

While the fatwa on Salman Rushdie does?

It is more of common sense matter than anything else. Fatwa is not needed for matters that are obvious enough in the light of Quran and Hadith. Neither in Quran nor in hadith are there clear instructions that a woman must hide her face. When there is no such requirement in Quran or Hadith, why going after a fatwa in the first place? It is like introducing new things in Islam. We should follow the Islam of Allah and his prophet (PBUH) and not that of mullah's.

Then count the million plus Fatwas in 57 OIC block and ask yourself "where is the common sense"
Religious matters, particularly that of Islam with rigid rituals, does not work the way you think it should.

A Muslim's life revolves around his/her religion, from cradle to grave.
