The F 16 Game---Paf Should Have Had A Different Game Plan

. . .

Make in India boost: Lockheed Martin ready to manufacture F-16 jets in India - The Economic Times

PAF policy makers should read this. Seeing their obsession with F-16s, they will soon be begging India next for some F-16s

No, they won't. There is little chance India will agree to setting up an F-16 plant or F-16 acquisition for that matter. Even if they do, it will take several years before they start producing anything. And even then there is nothing India can do as it will not be the only nation with F-16 manufacturing. Apart from US, F-16s are built in Turkey, Belgium and Netherlands. Those sources will always be available for our procurements with Turkey being the best option for Pakistan even if US closes it's line in favour of F-35.

Arrogance and ego does not allow India to go with F-16s. They are looking for a single platform for carrier based and land based operations. F-16 can not be based on carriers. France is pushing Rafale-M, Sweden offering naval version of Gripen. US wants F-18s and sometime in future F-35 perhaps. But there are lot's of conflicting interests here. For one, it will be death of Tejas and AMCA. Russia would be react sharply and FGFA would be in trouble. India is far from being able to sustain such a large fleet of foreign aircraft. So I would say, let's see how it plays out. PAF has done well by not reacting to every news and that's what is likely to happen in future. No need for knee jerk reactions. We hardly have the money for wrong impulsive decisions.

That's not the case. During MMRCA, the IAF found the F-16IN to be the least performing aircraft of all the competitors. So rest assured, the IAF won't pick the F-16.

The F-16 fetish of PAF high up is becoming a liability to the state of Pakistan. We have been using, buying F16s for decades, bending backwards to these up to no good yanks for their lousy planes and here we are, the yanks are offering manufacturing lines of F16 to India. They never came up with this offer to Pakistan, the original user of the damn thing.

The media drama is getting to the nerves to the be honest. I am like WTF, they are just 8 toys, how on earth they will give us any decisive punch against the Indians? PAF needs to get serious and start talking to Russians for SU35s.

Interesting idea. Only if US gives the green light for the sale, and presuming PAF can get the F-16 to their specs.

Pakistan's new obsession seem to be Su-35s.

yeah that's why rafale was the first casualty out of the MMRCA in 2009 but later on some dirty politics put rafale on top.

I guess not. Do explain.

US does not stop sales of F-16s to Pakistan, as is evident from recent events. Establishing manufacturing facility in India does not stop support of Pakistani birds from other sources, with US approval of course, which I don't see being denied.

Nothing really happened. Dassault couldn't submit some documents in time, so there were news reports of them being rejected. But Dassault had asked for more time and they were given that time.

With the upcoming purchase of the S-400/Barak 8/Spyder missiles I feel Pakistan would have one hell of a job getting past this air defence and I feel the F16 would not cut the mustard.

India's upcoming purchases means a decade away. PAF bombed India before and will do it again. Don't count on your purchases too much.

@MastanKhan
Sir when we have good experience and getting a nice bird for dirt cheap price even free (coalition support fund) we have nice reasons to obsessed with it...specially block 52 PLUS..a prime fighter in Asia...
are you sure about the dirt price fantasy...!

we didnt get them at dirt price in 80s and 90s neither was 3 billion deal for 18 f-16D/E dirt price nor i think 700 million for 8 is dirt price...there is no proof that its free unless deal specifically say that coalition fund will support it or it will be EDA or FMF deal rather than sale...

the only ones we got free were those 14 and partial upgrading of f-16 kits that were paid via FMF
