Everyone on the forum could make out who was a real coward the moment you made me an online challenge to meet me in " any dark alley" of my choosing.

Neither do you have logic nor real life expertise in martial arts. What I am betting is you memorized a number of pages of Info on various East Asian martial arts and are trying ,albeit in a futile and pathetic way to make an impression.

I needn't prove either my bravery or my experience by bragging online so spare me your stupid rants . My last post to you . Carry on sunshine ;)

Every martial artist will laugh at your post, and probably the whole forum.

How stupid can you be to dirty a whole thread with your dirty mind , clothes , mouth and spirit.

The challenge is still holding as you will find out soon .

Hapkido

It is mandatory for every student training in this martial art form to be on familiar terms with Yu, Won and Hwa which are the three main important principles that are to be applied to the basic technique of hapkido. Yu is the water principle which uses the philosophy of water which is to take any shape and to flow freely. While following this principle, the student has to take on his enemy from all possible sides. The Won is the circle principle which emphasizes on using circular motions like kicks, spins and throws to attack the opponent. The Hwa is the harmony oriented principle that uses the force and energy of the foe to hit him.

These principles can be used individually or in combination with each other, depending on the situation in order to beat the life out of the attacker and cause him maximum physical damage. Apart from the self defense aspect which is taken care of by hapkido, there are a lot of other benefits that this art form provides to the student. The confidence levels of the student rise substantially when he is conscious of the fact that he can deal with any adverse situation. The other advantages of learning this form of martial art are self discipline, weight control, courage, concentration, stress reduction and better overall health to name a few.

It is believed that hapkido is the most dynamic amongst all the styles of martial art because it includes a very interesting as well as dangerous mix of a lot of different kinds of kicks, punches, grappling techniques as well as joint locking methods. The grading system of this from of martial art is based on the color of belts which keep changing with the growth in the level of excellence in this form. The black belt is the ultimate color of belt, which signifies that the student is now well aware of all the techniques of this style and is eligible to teach others.

Shorinji Kempo

The martial art of Shorinji Kempo was designed to help any person defend themselves effectively and efficiently against any kind of violence, no matter how small or what age they are. It is a method which can be used to empower the weaker to take control of the stronger without the use of unnecessary force and in the absence of serious injuries. The basic formulae of physics, physiology and mechanics followed in this form are responsible for ensuring that everybody can learn and execute this style of martial art irrespective of their age or gender.

The use of appoximately 138 vital points in the human body which are utilized by Shorinji Kempo for counter attack.

The purpose of Shorinji Kempo is not to fight without a valid reason and inflict pain on others. The technique is only meant for defending oneself from a violent attack and making the opponent incapable of causing further damage without causing him any serious injury.

The self defense techniques cover both defenses against punches and kicks and when grabbed. Equal emphasis is placed on the study of both aspects referred to as Goho and Juho respectively.

The punch kick system called Goho (and loosely resembles Karate,) however relies on speed and striking vital points, rather than power. It covers a wide variety of punches and kicks and extensive blocking and dodging. During training the emphasis is on defence, so practice is focused on blocking and counter attack. The staff (Bo) Short staff (Jo) and batten (Nyoi den) are also taught at senior levels. How to attack vital points is also taught in great depth at this level.

Juho starts with escapes when grabbed, it covers every possible combination of grabs, one hand on one, two hands on two or two hands on one as well as arm and clothing in the same variations, each of these variations can be any combination of grab and pull or grab and push or twist or push and pull etc. Then continues with the attacker standing from the side and rear, sitting and standing.

The next stage is twisting, so each of the various escapes above, can, rather than escape, maintain contact and keep control of the attacker buy using joint twisting techniques, which can cause very intense pain rendering the attacker incapable of resistance. At high levels the application of technique is so fast that you don't register any pain but find yourself pinned on the floor wondering what happened.

These then lead to throws, to put the attacker on the floor and be pinned.

Also taught within Juho are the following... Chokes, arresting techniques, pressure on vital points, and tying up with belt or what have you.

Zen meditation also forms an important part of practice.

Meditation is practiced in order to calm the mind, be aware of his inner self and to keep his breathing regulated.

Xing Yi Quan can be known in the western world as Hsing I Ch'üan. This roughly translates to Mind & Heart Boxing.

The style involves fast bursts of energy release whereby defense can be maintained whilst carrying out an attack.

An essential part of it is to keep the mind calm and focused, putting it in harmony with the body - the philosophy says that only then can true balance be acheived.

As techniques are carried out at a fast pace, the style is well known for it's health benefits for practitioners. By training the cardio cardiovascular system Xing Yi Chuan has been the base of some of the longest living practitioners of any style, with some instructors being able to overpower younger students at the age of 100.
Xing Yi Chuan involves the emulation of animal styles, much like other Chinese martial arts as well as the five classical Chinese element as a foundation to it's movements and techniques.

Taekwondo

Taekwondo originates from South Korea, and literally means the way of the hand and foot. There are approximately 180 million practitioners of this martial art around the globe. The two main organizations, WTF and ITF contain classic forms/patterns (kata). These movements have significant applications. General Choi Hong Hi founded the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) in 1966. This organization has rules for sparring and patterns that are different to the WTF. Japanese karate has influenced the modern development of this ancient style.

This is more than just a sport as it was created from ancient practices and traditions that are designed to increase the training of mind, body and spirituality. When practiced fully, Taekwondo becomes more than a physical skill in that it gives its practitioners the key to gaining the correct attitude and values in order to face the daily challenges of life.

Taekwondo has risen in popularity since it became an Olympic sport in the year 2000. Observers also enjoy the display of taekwondo’s power during board breaking and form competitions. The military systems of South Korea and USA incorporate Taekwondo into their training.

Martial Arts.

Which one is the best ?

What a daft question.

It,s like comparing apples and oranges.

Each has its pros and cons, suits different people according to size shape and stature.
Effective in their own ways in different situations.

In one on one situations ( competitions like ufc, vale tudo etc ) grappling has shown to be king mixed with good striking ability.
Grappling. ( judo, ju-jitsu, sambo, wrestling, akido, shoot-fighting etc )
Striking. ( boxing, muay-thai, kick-boxing etc ).

In the early UFC fights (1,2,3,4,5) where it was mainly different styles pitted against each other, boxers, karate, muay thai and kung fu guys were handed their ***** to them by grapplers. Brazilian Ju-jitsu reigned supreme as did shoot fighters like ken shamrock.

In street combat where their is possibility of more than one opponent or threat, then grappling becomes a liability, you hence need to remain on your feet and keep swift movement, with the ability to strike quick. Delivering knock out strikes in the shortest possible times. Ideal ( Boxing, kick boxing, muay thai, karate, akido, taekwando, kung fu ).

Another street situation could be basic weapons such as knives, bats, sticks, chains etc. Ideal ( karate, akido, kung fu, escareema ).

Ancient weaponry such as swords spears etc. Ideal ( indian martial arts, kung fu, ninjitsu, bushido etc )

Lastly the military situation or secret service. ( This would mean nothing fancy like van-damme, but simply the easiest way to dispatch a person, armed or unarmed, not your ring or competition fighting, no rounds, no time limits ). Many nations have developed their own versions, most famous is the israeli krav maga.

Myself. Black belt judo ( love grappling ) and also do boxercise and have trained prey-mantis.

But as the legendary Bruce Lee put it, the best fight is the art of fighting without fighting.

Very well said.
I had many friends who were black belts in Judo, and Judo was my first introduction to martial arts before Tae Kwon Do at age 10.

But I am not impressed by The Krav Maga, since it is a combination or should I say a poor monkeying of very old styles I know of.
So grabbing something that already exists and changing its name to call it its own is plain theft.

For Bruce Lee, was it Winning without fighting or fighting without fighting, since the latter doesn't sound logical, and I have forgotten his quote from Jeet Kune Do.

Judo
Original Name:
柔道, jūdō
Founded By:
Kano Jigoro
Country of Origin:
Japan
Introduction:

Kodokan Judo is a form of martial art that found its origination by Jigoro Kano, who was born in the Hyogo district of Western Japan around 1879. He was a frail 17 year old, who was underestimated and harassed because of his weak physical appearance. Taking this as a challenge, Kano went ahead to learn jujitsu and eventually developed Kodokan Judo. “Ko” means “lecture”, “Do” means “the way” and “kan” means “a hall”. In 1938, after Professor Kano had made his presence in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for 29 years, it was finally decided to include Judo in the Olympic Games of 1940 that were scheduled to be held in Tokyo itself.

The techniques of Judo are divided into the following 3 categories:

Nage-waza – This refers to the Judo technique of Throwing. Further, classifications of these are Tachi-waza (Standing Techniques) and Sutemi-waza (Sacrificing Techniques). The type of Tachi-waza depends on the part of his body that the thrower (tori) uses to throw the opponent (throw uke). Sutemi-waza involves the tori reducing him on the mat and simultaneously throwing the opponent.

Katame-waza – Application of this technique of Grappling is made when both the opponents have dropped on the mat, however exceptionally it can be useful while they stand. It is further classified as osae-komi-waza (pinning down technique), kansetsu waza (joint lock technique) and shime waza (strangle/choke technique).

Atemi-waza – Striking technique of Judo are classified into ashi-ate (leg striking) and ude-waza (arm striking).

Etiquette is most likely to be the most vital facet of Judo. This aspect has been given relevance, as it helps to develop the overall person within society too. Take into consideration that, this etiquette refers to the customs, rules or way to conduct oneself on and off the mat. Just like golf, for example, wherein etiquette is meant to be observed by the player as well as the spectators.

Randori is a training method, which is of great value off the mat. It allows free movement without direct resistance to force, which gives the judoka a chance to select and pursue his free movements in consequence. The philosophy of the Randori is endearing, because, what may look like a fight to an unaware spectator, is actually an art that teaches both the competitors consideration for one another. It holds its base in equalization. Hence, the competitor who is physically and technically superior, tones down his actions to reach the level of the other. This makes it a fair fight and an unselfish approach to learning Judo.

Another unique aspect of Judo is its ranking system. Belts of specific colours are assigned to the Judoka, which describe the level of technical and contest performance the Judo student has attained. A white belt signifies a beginner and a black belt connotes a judoka of high proficiency. This belt ranking also depends on the student’s contribution to the judo organization etc. This ranking serves many purposes. Understanding the connotation of the colours helps to know the seniority of the judoka and hence, the expression of respect by the juniors is imperative.

Kuntao
Original Name:
Kuntao, Kuntaw, Gongdao (mandarin)
Founded By:
Chinese community of Southeast Asia
Country of Origin:
China
Introduction:

Kuntao is a unique style of martial art, which basically originated from China; however it is also popular in other countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. This fighting style mainly involves the techniques for maintaining a perfect coordination of the body parts especially the hands and the limbs. Most of its moves are based on the act of engaging in close hand-to-hand combat or locking the leg of the person you are fighting with. Gradually with the advent of other mixed techniques, it started incorporating in the prevailing group throughout several terrains.

There are various popular styles of kuntao. Among these Kuntao angin or Silat is one of the most common style of Kuntao. It basically combines several other families of martial art techniques such as Silat Seni Gayong, Tomoi, Wing Chun and Yiquan. Yap Mat is the founder of this art style. It was originated in the year of 1977. Kuntao Silat De Thouars was introduced Willem De Thouars and hence the name. This style is famous in Europe and America. Liu Seong Kuntao is another Kuntao form founded by Willem Reeders. It is a derived form of mixed martial techniques. It mainly deals with the knowledge of using several weapons.

The training of this art begins with learning the basic and simple moves without the use of any kind of weapons. Generally fighting with different weapons is taught in the later phases of the training program. The practitioners are also taught how to fight using ordinary stuffs like belt or a piece of cloth. The early stage of training includes practicing bare handedly, mostly using hands, limbs, and elbow. This basically involves acquiring knowledge of self defense techniques. Then the advanced learning methods are introduced in the training sessions, which implement the usage of various weapons like spear, parang, knife, tekpi and sticks.

Regular exercises are needed in order to maintain a proper balance between the body and the mind. Kuntao requires the mental stability along with a proper structured body. The main idea behind the winning strategies is to concentrate, while fighting against the opponent. Any kind of tension will result into fatigue, thus consequently physical power and strength can be reduced. It is not enough to just learn the moves, more important aspect to be emphasized upon is how to carry out the different moves in the right manner. This requires knowing the correct alignment or body posture while applying different moves.

Combining the right physical condition and mind stability is the key to success in order to achieve perfect proficiency in the area of martial arts. Skilled professionals suggest staying calm and concentrated while fighting. One should be able to generate great amount of energy within short course of time. A continuous chain of kicks and punches is more effective in slowly diminishing the opponent’s power. While applying any moves, one should keep in mind that, the moves should be sudden with lot of energy embedded within. Many practitioners make a large sound saying “Di” during the attacks. This sound should be produced simultaneously with the attack. This also helps in destabilizing the opponent’s mental stability and making the enemy almost paralyzed for a short while. Thus, by performing Kuntao with proper strength and right manner is the secret of achieving excellence in this field.

The art of fighting without fighting.

From what I understood it meant if something could be solved without fighting that would be the best solution. The best fight. ie. the one that does not take place.

Anyone seen IP MAN? story of Bruce Lee's mentor

I think Kung-Fu is a good base martial art. Afterwards you can branch out and combine techniques.

Yes, but it is too bad he was too old when he got to be known.

I think Kung-Fu is a good base martial art. Afterwards you can branch out and combine techniques.

Gung Fu has so many techniques, that you'll find most of them in the other branches of martial arts.
So if you master a 5 animals style or a 13 animal style you will get most of the techniques known to other martial arts, they are all hidden in forms, and you get to understand them in time.

The art of fighting without fighting.

From what I understood it meant if something could be solved without fighting that would be the best solution. The best fight. ie. the one that does not take place.

So it is spirit over matter, as one uses his brain to avoid a fight, and only fights when no other choice is left to contemplate.
