Religious hatred of Turks basically stems from Muslims vs Christians.

Islam vs Christianity.

Racial or ethnic one is basically white european people cant stand competition and getting their asses beaten numerous times because it hurts their white supremacist feelings.

We seen with the terrorist who did that mosque shooting he singled out Turks of course you see this many times with white supremacist or white nationalists they always single out Turks due to history.

I been thinking this for some time, what if the Turks did not convert to Islam when they were gaining strength in Central Asia, later on to Anatolia but stayed as Tengrists or became Orthodox Christian's who would take over Constantinople, would you guys still be hated by Europeans,Greeks and other Balkan folks ?????
Interesting point. Here's my take based on the limited knowledge that I do have on this topic:

Hungarians, if I'm not wrong, are a turkic people who are of the orthodox faith and are for the most part accepted by Europeans as one of their own, at least in the cultural sense if not in a lineal sense (origins, etc.). Perhaps the acceptance of Christian Hungarians is only possible due to the presence of Muslim Turks (the other) to contrast them with and thus Christian's are culturally accepted as still closer to Europeans culturally than Muslims.

If anatolian Turks converted to Christianity than even the foreign origins of the Hungarians would become a focal point of differentiation from the rest of Europe.

But as the situation stands today Hungarians are accepted as Europeans, even if culturally (except the language). Even many White nationalists view Orban and Hungary under him as a role model for a modern anti-globalist conservative and pro-ethnic European state.

Well I did not want to go into details but let’s us go little deeper. So all know about Armenia and Turks siding with Germany during World War 1. Then Turkish conquered Constantinople earlier. Fought bravely in Gallipoli and inflicted big losses on landing British forces The last Caliphate was based in Turkey so even if they were not Muslims and whole nation changed like a chameleon changes colours, History will stare them in their face for at least 50 to 100 years provided the World scenario does not change much.
But the World scenario will change and once Turkey reacts to who is supporting Kurds it will get worse.
I do not think it will get better for Turkey Pakistan etc.

Despite the gimmickry of Mustafa Kemal, they were not accepted by the Europeans as their own. Still aren't and wont be in foreseeable future since they have moved away from hyper-secularism.

A lesson for those who think that by being secular, we will earn the respect of the West.

Precisely.

If not religious then it will be cultural

If not cultural then it will be racial

There will always be a grounds for differentiation between them and us and it is better for us to accept ourselves for who we truly are and were meant to be rather than trying to appease the others.

Even if you forget that you are a Turk your enemies will never ever forget who you are.

Hungarians are an assimilated bunch even if Turks and Hungarians were cousins they basically branched off. Hungarians are basically Asians who turned into Europeans.

Turks are not really assimilated because the Turkic World is big also the Turks basically assimilated anybody who joined their empires.

Hungarians are interesting. It depends if you see Huns/Uralics as part of larger Turk fold (there is arguments going on in all different ways). They have over time of course intermixed a huge deal with more local caucasian populations now....so looks wise they dont stand out too much from Europeans around them generally.

hungarians arent looking hun at all but huns were turkic. hungarians got too much mixed with the locals.

Oh, certainly not. In fact, If Turks had converted to Christianity instead of Islam, Turks would be one of the major European powers today alongside Germans, British and French. You may think otherwise but it's all about your religion. Remember, when Germans first came from the north they were also considered heathens and barbarians for a very long time until most of their folk converted to Christianity...But once they did convert, Germans, because of their superior fighting abilities became the spearhead that carried and protected Christianity just like how Turks became Muslims and turned into overlords of their region for centuries.

So yeah, even though Turkey and most other European nations have become secular, religion still plays a significant role. It's not about praying daily but rather about heritage. You can still hear the call to prayer five times a day in Turkey and you can also still hear the bells ringing all across European countries.

Heritage plays an important role in tolerance. Most westerners until 100 years ago would probably even see Eastern Europe as "inferior" and "lower" so there's even a divide there. The same thing exists in Turkish society as well. Most of Modern Turkey's population consists of Muslims from Balkans, Crimea, Caucasia and local Anatolian Turks. During the 1930's Turkey had 12 million population and almost half of it was migrants from these regions. These people blend in quite nicely and created a functioning society, most of their children integrated very easily because these people had connections & bonds with each other for centuries. But with the Syrians for instance, it somewhat backfired and almost anyone in Turkey whether religious, conservative, secular or Democrat wants them gone. Therefore, it's not a surprise that Europeans can't accept Muslim Turks with whom they fought for centuries as one of their own. There are many factors if Turkey was an insignificant Muslim country in the past no one would mind but that's not the case.

Historically speaking the attitude towards Turks is not monolithic. Turkey was a close ally of Germany duting ww1. England and France were allied with Turks in the Crimean war. The Ottomans were just another empire with wars and alliances.

Interesting. Catholic Turks.

And Rumanians are Orthodox Latins.

Poles are Catholic Slavs.

Eastern Europe truly is a world of its own different from Western Europe
Romania is a Latin wanna be nation. They used Cyrillic script till mid 19 century, also their church used Church Slavic language till early 18 century, they changed their history 150 years ago, trying to portray themself as successors of the Roman Empire. They have the same inferior complex as the poles.
