"We Need To Be Careful!" - Is India Going To Be The Next China?

.
Nonsense :)

India is a democracy. We will get to where we need to on our own pace and with our own approach to policy.

I’m curious, what “reforms” do you think India needs? Do you even know what policies exist in India today?
India needs similar reforms that Japan, Korea and China implemented during their rise. It's the only way possible.

Japan had discipline within its society, which is why those reforms were relatively bloodless, though there were huge protests. It was also basically ruled by 1 party for most of its post-world war history making pushing through reforms and policies much more easily.

China literally took land from land owners and redistributed them, and invested heavily in creating an unrivaled manufacturing capability by displacing millions of people without their consent

Can India do the same?

India doesn't have the same level of societal discipline, and far too many political fault lines to do this.

Democracy in this case is a hindrance, and it creates to much in fighting.

They give free money in name of social benefit, some unemployed people get it some pretenders take benefit of the system . Begars ,thieves and pickpockets are everywhere all over the world .
And yet, unemployment is still at a record low.

Some people will always exploit then system, yet the US is still far ahead.

More nonsense. You should stop.

India is on the rise TODAY. The entire country is transforming without the idiocy you suggest.

The pace is already breakneck territory. We are doing just fine.

So India wont be doing the same. We aspire to do this correctly.

We believe in growth that's organic, sustainable and most importantly -- built for the long run. That requires democracy (including dissent), robust institutions and rule of law -- including mechanisms that allow for course correction without upending the entire system.

Our society is adapting, positive change is happening everywhere -- its there for any Indian to see today. You can see it too, if you decide to take you green blinders off. I hope one day we (Indians) are able to look back and say we made the journey right.

Physician, heal thyself.
India is rising though. Although I laugh at his assertions that India is “doing it the right way”. It’s a huge colossal mess, the most polluted country and has massive corruption. But India is rising and developing rapidly and given its massive size and young population which is the largest in the world, it will become a major force in the world.

I’ve noticed a lot of Chinese pdf members living in a self deluded world where India is incapable of progress while China is this perfect utopia of incessant progress. This is just as deluded as Westerners who couldn’t fathom Chinas rise and banked on its collapse every year. India is rising and there is no doubt about it. Anybody who is objective can see the writing on the wall. They may not ever be as developed or rich per capita as China is, but they are rising and will be a massive force.

Look, I like many Indians are used to democracy. We like the illusion (or otherwise) of control and equity that it offers at some level. I don’t want to see people tortured and losing their agency in the name of progress, I want to see us rise up to it organically. The system we have today is the most acceptable compromise. It’s moving at a fast enough pace. I think all we need to do is hold on and stay true to course.

Change will come, because change is already happening.

I don’t know what giant leaps I’m making with this statement. But hey, I can only think for myself.

Except India growth isn't sustainable, nor is it organic. It's based almost entirely on FDI.

High growth means nothing when it benefits no one but the rich, and that is what's happening in India. Unemployment in India is already high, and is going to get worse, because of automation which Indian corporations have embraced wholeheartedly.

This is not a good thing, you can pretend otherwise but it won't change anything.

India can remain a great power simply due to its massive labor force, and also have a massive economy, but it won't be another China.

Except India doesn't have rule of law, order or many of the positives associated with first world democracies. It is chaotic, messy and corrupt and the weak are exploited and treated as subhuman. However, it is the world's most populated country and is entering a period of industrialization, which will ultimately change the world we live in as a huge part of humanity enters the global economy.

India's growth is sustainable because it has a massive population, the biggest in the world, tens of millions of very intelligent people, massive energy and vibrancy and it is entering a period of rapid industrialization.

It doesn't matter that it will not become "another China'. Of course not, it is a very different country. But it will have its own path and will become a massive presence and force to be dealt with.

Exactly. No need to become another China. Democracy and Wealth creation together.

I have a standard response I give to assertions like this:
Broke: Because India has a large population, it will automatically have a large economy.

Woke: There are several crucial structural factors that ensure India will consistently underperform - poor and irreformable governance, a caste system prohibiting full economic participation, a multiplicity of mutually unintelligible dialects and languages, strong regionalism and autonomy, lack of education and human development, democracy preventing long-term planning, pseudo-socialist laws preventing markets from functioning, perverse incentives throughout the economy, lack of government capacity to build infrastructure,...

Bespoke: There's no such thing as India.
You make several fundamental analytical errors, foremost among them is thinking India is a country. India is exactly as Lee Kuan Yew described it: 32 countries that happened to be arrayed a British railway line.

India (if we entertain the existence of such a thing as a cohesive unit meriting the label country) having a large population does not entail it will be a "massive force." A large population is a necessary but far from sufficient condition. Without the infrastructure, the governance, the human development, and a critical role to play in the global economy - none of which India has - all its size will mean is that it will have a massive quantity of poor, uneducated, and unskilled people on the verge of starvation.

And this fetishization of youth is at best passé. Gone are the days when a country with a massive population could develop by ripping hundreds of millions of young peasants off the land and packing them into factories. China was the first and last country to pull off that trick. Those factories have all been automated and those jobs by which a country's income could rise are all gone.

China has the global manufacturing marketplace on lock and nothing the US or anyone else is doing is going to change that. China would have to fail and India would have to succeed for India to even have a chance and neither of those will happen.

I used to think like you and believe that development was the norm. I calculated a country's "potential" purely based on the number of people it had - but that just isn't how the world works. What China did is frankly miraculous and it won't be repeated.

Why is on lock ?? Any logical reasons

Why is India's growth based on FDI ?

. .
Actually India suffers record trade deficit year on year and it's ranking in global hunger index rankings slides in recent years, that means on average level, India is actually faring worse than most other developing countries, I wonder where their "growth” is coming from... US can grow through printing money and hype inflation, can India do the same?

Neither are we a middle kingdom, nor do we have the medieval mindset to become a global hegemon.
Would be better if Muricans policy planners get a bit more wiser instead of continuing the same daft and simplistic policymaking of last 4 decades.

With ample red flags USofA kept propping up China with the latter yielding nothing and the former everything!
Idiots, who wants to be like China!? 🤮
