He began by issuing himself a self certificate of atheism (excused himself from the duty to uplift people from his own community with regressive mindset) and skirted the whole issue beautifully by falsely equating Hindus with Taliban. Who is he to give sermons to Hindus. so instead of farting in some lit fest how about he preach "tolerance" to that crazy Mallu Mullah who thinks women are only to produce babies and nothing else.

1. Don't agree with Hirani. PK deliberately attacked Hinduism. Just another defensive naive rich guy with little idea about what he was talking about. He could not give satisfactory answers to the questions asked. Javed did better. Way better.
2. Always had respect for Akhtar. Though I disagree with almost everything he says, he is honest and straightforward with little hidden agenda. Qualities I admire. He made two points -

i. Hindus should not become as intolerant as Muslims/Hinduism should not become as intolerant as Islam -
Times have changed. The intolerance word is being misused. Hindu fanaticism was stronger in the past, but is being reported more in the present. This creates an illusion. The frequent riots in the past as compared to now is the biggest indicator. A few films are not a good parameter to gauge tolerance. In the 70s Hindus were even more naive and there was a TOTAL absence of Hindu thought, as opposed to Marxist/Socialist thinking. Plus, Hindus have become more guarded against open vilification, which they have every right to. They are not killing people. If they do, India will lose all anti Hindus in a day. They are uninstalling apps. Well, even people with respect for Bharat from other communities are doing the same. So I appreciate the point, but there is a need to arm Hinduism with teeth. Otherwise predators will tear it into pieces.

ii. Frequent comparison to Pakistan - an emotional blackmail. Nothing more. I don't wish to read too much into it.

In any case, among the atheist and perhaps the truly secular folks, Javed is an exception. Indian atheists have betrayed the very basics of their ideologies and have surrendered totally to Islam. It is good that he has not. I had hopes from Irfan Habib as well. But he has recently confirmed me wrong.

Which is why it needs to be protected with force. There must be a strong deterrence that would instill raw fear into any Islamist or Evangelist who tries to damage this moderating influence.

Way back in 1940's Hindus of lower castes were not allowed to enter a temple owned by higher castes, and Muslims were not allowed to draw water from a well used by Hindus.

Why even bother to point out the Obvious

Let them cheer and celebrate this sermon to "hindu taliban" and sleep better in "intolerant" India.

Like Aamir khan all "secular" muslims have the god given right to "advice" hindus to be "tolerant". You see, they are not "muslims" , they are Indians, Hindus OTOH are "hindus" not Indians.
