US curbs feared: Pakistan to tell Iran IP project not implementable

Why Pakistan need this pipeline? To meet energy requirement and increase exports. And who are the biggest importers of Pakistani products? Western nations, so this pipeline is useless if sanctions are not removed. Unfortunately Pakistan don't have billions of barrels of black gold.

Hi,

To my knowledge an Underwater pipeline is very much possible between Iran and India. Iran got lot of oil and India got lot of money. Moreover, When Normay and England can have a 1500 km underwater Oil pipeline. India and Iran can easily have it.

Reasons: North Sea is more treacherous and dangerous than Arabian sea. Arabian sea is very much calm when compared with North sea.

@DESERT FIGHTER you are not in your form today..
what happen having some party or what...

True.... fts..

Pakistan has decided to formally convey to Iran that a multibillion-dollar gas pipeline project cannot move ahead due to possible US sanctions.

A Pakistani delegation would leave for Tehran by the end of this month to convey to Iranian officials there that a threat of US sanctions was the major stumbling block in implementing the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project, sources told The Express Tribune.

“The Foreign Office has given the go-ahead for conveying this message to Iranian officials,” said an official privy to the development.

On Thursday, the Foreign Office convened an inter-ministerial meeting where it was observed that Pakistan has failed to garner funds due to a threat of US sanctions. Even friendly countries like China have backed out from funding the project.

Far gone conclusion... just the formality of cancellation remains. This was never meant to take off. Just a naughty caveat left behind by Zardari government as an irritant for incoming Nawaz Sharif administration!

You just need money to make it that's all and India got it. Even if UK wants to built a new Northsea pipeline now, it's impossible for them due to lack of funds. I don't see a reason why a developing country like India with lot of cash cant have an Underwater pipeline.

Moreover, It's going to be in International waters, where is the threat in International waters. I'm totally surprised O.O

So you think $$ is the only problem ,not US pressure.then what is title of this thread?

It's legal to have an Underwater pipeline in International waters. Moreover, it's not crossing into Pakistan. So what's the issue?

Hint : USA!!...

No contract signed yet..?

Sign a contract first than you can come and brag ...

ISLAMABAD – The foreign office spokesperson has said that the Pak-Iran gas pipeline was facing delay due to the lack of funds, adding that there was no US pressure over the project.

Reacting over the latest remarks of Indian army chief, the FO spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said Pakistan always made efforts to maintain peace along the line of control.

FO spokesperson said in 2013‚ military and civilian causalities were witnessed due to Indian unprovoked firing incidents on Line of Control, adding that provocative statements may worsen the situation. She said progress has been made recently for improvement in the situation as a result of DGMOs meeting.

Tasneem Aslam said that Prime Minister's advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security has left for Morocco to attend meeting of Al-Quds Committee.

She said Pakistan desired peaceful resolution of Palestine issue. She said the right of Palestinians for having a viable state with Jerusalem as its capital should be respected.

Regarding Iran's nuclear program‚ Tasnim Aslam said Pakistan has always stressed for a resolution through dialogue as there is no military resolution of Iran's nuclear program.

She said Pakistan and Iran do not require a new agreement on the gas pipeline project as an agreement already exists between the two countries in this regard. She‚ however‚ said adjustments can be made regarding the timeline of the project.

Regarding the issue of drug trafficking‚ the spokesperson said some countries including Saudi Arabia and China have strict sentences such as capital punishments.

To another question‚ she said illegal migrations take place through the world and governments cooperate for its culmination.

She rejected media reports regarding large number of Pakistanis illegally migrating to Italy and termed them as exaggerated.

Regarding Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Khurram Dastgir's visit to India‚ she said he is not visiting New Delhi for bilateral talks.

Khurram Dastgir will participate in SAARC Business Conclave and on the sidelines‚ a meeting with his Indian counterpart is also expected.
