Gokturk-1(0.7m) satellite is developed by Telespazio with French optic payload. Main contactor is under the cooperation with Turkish partners such as Aselsan, Roketsan and Tübitak.

Gokturk-2 (2.5m)is developed by TAI with Korean optic. Many other subsystems are Turkish.

Next step is to produce a spy satellite called IMECE (0.5-0.8m) most critical componants including submeter cameras will be national.

Gokturk 1 was designed and built first, but the Israeli firm that produced the camera didn't want to give it to turkey because it could be used to map Israeli territories and military installations. Gokturk 2 was designed after the problems with the Israeli camera took place, it uses a weaker camera and thus have lower resolution on its images but doesn't have any of the political problems that Gokturk 1 had.
