Four terrorists killed in Dera operation

Dawn Report
April 17, 2025

Security forces killed four terrorists affiliated with a banned group during an intelligence-based operation in the Kulachi tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday, sources said, adding two other militants were reportedly injured.

They said a significant cache of sophisticated weapons and explosive material was also recovered from the possession of the killed and injured militants.

The neutralised militants were said to be involved in multiple acts of terrorism, including targeted killing, extortion, kidnappings, and abductions for ransom. They had long been wanted by law enforcement and security agencies.

Meanwhile, a policeman was injured in a clash with terrorists in the remote Paharkhel Pacca area of Lakki Marwat district on Wednesday.

An official said a group of terrorists ambushed a party of Ghaznikhel police station led by SHO Ghulan Razzaq Khan when it was on a routine patrol duty in the area.

“It was a three-pronged attack wherein the assailants used light and heavy weapons,” he said, adding the police van was badly damaged in the sudden attack.

The official said the cops took positions and returned the attack, triggering a gun battle.

“A cop, identified as Shahid, was injured in an exchange of fire and transported to a hospital,” he added.

He said during an exchange of fire, the law enforcers shifted their injured colleague to a safer place and continued fighting bravely.

He said an effective retaliation by police backed by armed villagers forced the terrorists to flee toward mountains.

The official further said additional force from the police lines and nearby police stations led by district police officer Mohammad Jawad Ishaq also reached the area and launched a search in the difficult mountainous terrain for assailants.

A police constable was martyred and a militant killed during an exchange of fire on Monday in South Waziristan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, police said on Monday.

According to police, the incident occurred while the constable was on duty as part of the security arrangements for the ongoing nationwide anti-polio campaign.

Unidentified assailants opened fire on the security team, prompting a retaliatory response in which one attacker was killed.

Authorities recovered several weapons and items from the deceased militant, including a rocket launcher, a machine gun, two motorcycles, a national identity card, three ATM cards, and a smartphone.

The attack comes a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the second nationwide polio eradication campaign of 2025, which is scheduled to run from April 21 to April 27.

Polio workers and their security escorts have frequently come under attack, particularly in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. In 2024, at least 20 people were killed and 53 injured in similar incidents during polio vaccination drives in K-P.

Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only countries where polio remains endemic.

At least six terrorists were killed during two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted by security forces in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the military's media wing confirmed on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the first operation took place in the general area of Razmak, located in North Waziristan district, where security forces engaged suspected terrorist hideouts.

“During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the Khawarij location; resultantly, five Khawarij were sent to hell,” the ISPR stated.

In a separate operation in South Waziristan, troops successfully neutralised Zabi Ullah Zakran, a high-value target and ring leader who was allegedly involved in multiple terrorist attacks against security forces and the targeted killing of civilians.

According to the ISPR, Zakran was on the most-wanted list of law enforcement agencies due to his long-standing involvement in extremist activities.
