Turkey to go ahead with non-NATO-integrated Chinese missile defence

Now there had been wrong statements by some posters in this thread hence i will correct them.

1-) Our minister İsmet Yılmaz has clearly stated that integration of the missile to command & control system will be done by a Turkish firm. It will not be done by Chinese.

2-) Turkey will never share any of info about NATO with the Chinese or vice versa. The moment we share Chinese defense products with our allies they will never enter our tenders again. But i believe F-35s will be tested by HQ-9 in the future for feedbacks.

3-) Oppositon party filled a questionaire to defense minister. They asked basically "You are favoring HQ-9 but NATO stated that they will not allow Chinese Missile to NATO systems in any circumtances. What is your solution ?"

And İsmet Yılmaz told them about the solution.

4-) Although HQ-9 has a very good chance, there is still chance for SSM to cancel the whole tender and gave the job to Rocketsan, a Turkish company. Roketsan is pressing SSM and Army for the contract and they are claiming that they can design/produce/deliver the whole system in 7 years. Eurosam's delivery time is also 7 years.

HQ-9 is now outdated for the PLA. Newer systems are being introduced for the PLA.

Sell the Turks the HQ-9, earn money and prove China is a top weapons exporter to the world.

In 2013 Russia was the top weapons exporter followed by US, then China.

Anybody who can afford it won't buy Chinese weapons because it is boycotted and they dont. trust China. Only reason turkey bought is is to upgrade it and sell it. We have loads of countries who will buy nato weapons while you can't name two countries who will buy Chinese system.

China should offer an better System instead of getting for their own Forces the S-400 and the reality that Turkey moving on big steps to develop his own system looks the period of time not so far.

Yes, we have new project like HQ-9B and HQ-26. On 052D DDGs China had installed new SAMs.

HQ-9 or FD-2000 SAM such cold-launched VLS is not current most advanced tech, compared with MK41,MK45,HQ16,HQ9B,HQ26 hot-launched VLS or CCL VLS.

That's point, cheaper than Patriot, as same good quality as Patriot ... HQ-9 will be welcomed by other foreign nations ... more deals will coming,lol... PLA Army can get new updated domestic SAM better than HQ-9.

That is true, but in reality Turkey can allow NATO the option to look at the system components that can potentially compromise China's newer version.

It won't happen. Turkey knows better---it will not allow any such thing.

Turkey will be having its own independant long range Air defence system in the form of the HQ-9T (Turkish variant) to build on, plus the NATO obligation to provide the Patriot system (for free).

Any nation can own HQ-9xxx, not only Turkey, China selling HQ-9/FD-2000 to whole world.

Turkey always tries to get its own version of a major system like its submarines. The contract was postponed many times because of the particularToT demands from Turkey.
Of course anyone who can negotiate like Turkey can have their own versions, but those are not many. Usrael can do that with Germany and the US who see her as their only daughter!

This deal barely break-even for us so you think we give you HQ-9 for money? You couldn't be wrong than believing that. Fact is we have reasons to ToT you HQ-9. As a matter of fact, we agree for part TOT, the source code is not transferable. Think of selling a Dell Computer to you. You get to manufacture or develop any of the hardware in a Dell Computer (RAM, motherboard, HD, etc) but at the end of the day, to make a Dell Computer power up and function, you need an OS. This OS (source code), we are not transferring.

In addition, you have to remember that HQ-9 is design for export and its system is very different from one we made for PLA. So you can reverse engineer all you want. We encourage you to do so.

When Turkey spent years to develop Turkey version SAM out, there will be Patriot-III, S-500, HQ-26 selling in the world. LOL...this's not simply copy/paste, need years & funds to develop.

And I said cold-launched HQ-9/FD-2000 absolutely is not the latest advanced tech for U.S/Russia/China, cheaper than MK-41.

We already sold to Central Asia. Soon Africa will follow and some in Middle-east. In fact, as soon as Iran sanction is lift, I suspect Iran will want ToT HQ-9 deal like Turkey got.

Turkey has a huge air defense radar coverage watching the half territory of each of it's neighbors. But with that, we gotta place land based CAFRAD to nearly every corner of the homeland soils.

Sinan, getting a ToT with FD-2000...and then going for a better, indigenous product makes more sense, no?
