Turkey to go ahead with non-NATO-integrated Chinese missile defence

Seems like some Chinese are butt hurt they are doing business with the relatives of the Uighurs and others think they fooled the Turks. o_O

Turkey doesn't need their own air defense system anytime soon because it won't leave NATO for the coming 10-20 years. Again if we buy the HQ-9 we just buy it for the tech and in the next 10-20 years we will develop the necessary tech to be on par with the current tech of that time.

I'm sorry to say but China has long way to go. Some are pretending they are already producing 5th gen jets (i.e Iran and China). I'm sorry to say the painful truth but you are no way close to producing F-35 equivalent or western air defense system. Turkey can just buy it, you have to develop it yourself. Soon Turkey and Japan will have F-35 and huge force multiplier against China. Why would Turkey build on 5th gen fighter? Japan and Turkey should have the ground works for production of jets just like they will need ground work for building own air defense systems.

Producing own jet/air defense system takes a long time. F-35 maintenance center will be in Turkey and we will get some tech transfer. We are building the experience and doing the hard work. The Chinese are just ripping off and stealing stuff without paying for it. That is why your products are boycotted and I do understand why western companies are blacklisting Chinese companies. You are insulting to hard work. Anyway, as @Hakan mentioned. There is a big chance the deal won't go through. If we accept a deal with Chinese scam companies. The reputation of our military companies will be ruined and they will be blacklisted too. Probably this news is brought out to pressure our western allies so they are inclined to give us tech transfer. It doesn't matter if the price is 5 times higher. We will make the right choice. It is kind of sad (for Chinese) that China is being used as a bargaining chip against our western allies but we don't have a choice.

. .
FD2000 isn't close to HQ-9x that we use in China. It's something with the performances that can satisfy the Turks and yet with the wallet size of Turks.

Turks in the forum think that they have a choice? They can't afford anything Nato or Western, not even Russian.

Turkey may give nod to Russian missile defense offer

Turkey may reconsider a Russian proposal to jointly develop a missile defense complex if the price is right and the technology transfer terms are more acceptable to Ankara, a high-ranking official said in Ankara earlier this week, Sputnik reports.

Turkey launched a tender for the purchase of long-range air defense systems in 2009. In 2013, Ankara announced that it had selected China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corp’s (CPMIEC) FD-2000 area defense system for its air and missile defense requirement, dubbed T-LORAMIDS.

Beijing said it would line up the system for just $3.4 billion. Moreover, unlike the other bidders, Beijing agreed to have some of the missiles’ components to be built in Turkey, and to hand their construction technology over to the Turkish side.

CPMIEC’s bid beat out the more expensive proposals from Italian-French consortium Eurosam, maker of the SAMP/T Aster 30; a US partnership of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, maker of the Patriot; and Russia’s Rosoboronexport, which makes the S-300/S-400.

The announcement caused concern among Turkey’s NATO allies, above all the United States. After the Chinese firm failed to meet all of the conditions of the $3.4 billion tender Turkey announced it would study rival bids.

“We could reconsider the Russian offer if the price and technology transfer terms are significantly improved to make them more acceptable to us,” the Turkish official said.
