Many people think, Chinese have pigtails hairstyle and wear Mandarin jacket. But it is not true, real chinese costume is Hanfu, which has more than 4000 years, from the Yellow Emperor (Huangdi) period (ca. 2698 BC) to the late Ming (mid 17th century).

19th century, Pierre de Coubertin revived the Olympic Games, which died for 500 years.

20th century, Eliezer Ben-Yehuda revived the Hebrew language, which died for 2000 years.

And 21th century, Chinese will revive the traditional costume Hanfu, which died for 400 years, Chinese were forced to abandon Hanfu by Manchu rulers in1644.

Disappearance of Hanfu

In the year of 1644 Manchus invaded China and seized power of the Han Chinese regime. Then they built a new regime: Qing Dynasty. To destroy the identity of Han ethnic and Chinese culture. Manchu rulers has issued a decree: "Shave hair and Change costume(剃发易服)". This has led to strong opposition and revolt of the Han Chinese. This led to severe penalties and bloody suppression of the Qing government.

Good thread, but some of those pictures are down. The Germany, US, and Canada ones. I suggest you save those pictures first and then upload to this forum, do not just copy the original link.

What is the reason for this type of fashion/hair? It seems to be unique for China or at least Mongoloid people. I think that I recall seeing a similar type of hair among Native Americans but I might be wrong here.

Seems extremely inefficient to go to the restroom with.

There is a reason why almost all asian country has switched to western style clothes, they are just superior.

Popular culture and video games are likely the reason why a stereotypical Chinese females have pigtails hairstyle and males wear Mandarin jacket because most viewers has the need to visually tell them that this character came from "Country A."
