Traditional chinese costume . We eliminate your misunderstanding of Chinese costume and hairstyle.

While Japanese and Korean leaders wear their traditional clothes...

Why are the Communist leader in the mainland not wearing Hanfu?

A puzzle that mainland Chinese don't dare to answer!

What is the reason for this type of fashion/hair? It seems to be unique for China or at least Mongoloid people. I think that I recall seeing a similar type of hair among Native Americans but I might be wrong here.

Nomads, horse riding warriors, etc. for convenience. In Chinese Confucius teaching, every piece of our body is from our parents and destroying every piece is supposed to violate rule of filial piety.

I doubt Japanese can really understand it even though they use Chinese characters. Cantonese expressions are different than our northern brethren.

I'm somewhat fluent in Cantonese. Let's get back to the topic, okay? :)

Because we have bunch of minorities with tiny populations, i.e. less than 10%, but they hold huge sway in China's politics. While Japanese government can force any non-Japanese to even abandon their last names and adopt Japanese last names, the Chinese leaders are afraid of minority discontent. We Han majority will be vilified as "Han Chauvinism" if we dare to wear Han traditional clothing.

I am waiting for some mainland Chinese to call me Han Chauvinist, lol. Actually I think I was called once by some northerner. lol

So this type of hair style derives from nomads?

If every piece of your body is from your parents then why shave your hair?

I mean is there any particular reason for this hairstyle? I have seen old photos of China and I saw this hair style in the main cities.

I think you should read the first post. The Manchu, i.e. nomads, invaded China and established Qing Dynasty, the last Dynasty before Republic of China. They forced Chinese people to abandon our hairstyle (no shaving but holding on head like a bun),abandon our clothing, etc. to erase our ethnicity, our memory.

Because Qing is the last dynasty before Republic of China, its legacy is therefore prominent in popular culture. People are easy to forget the past after almost 300 hundred of years even though our ancestors died to this forced cultural slaughtering.

Mostly from the Altaic people such as the Turco-Mongol and Tungusic people.

The Chinese people from the 1644-1911 period also had this haircut because our Emperors had the Altaic background, thus they enforced the regular citizens also to bear the same haircut and dress as them.
