The Indian Ocean riposte (Stunning news about the S3 & S4 & S4*)

Is there any govt. source or is this 10k sub is a myth by india today

. . .
Sources? The article discusses just 6 SSN and 4 SSBN.

"the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) formally cleared India's single-largest defence project: a joint Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC)-Navy project to build six nuclear-powered attack submarines or SSNs"

"The INS Arihant or the S2, the first of a class of four 6,000-tonne ballistic missile submarines, recently began her sea trials in Visakhapatnam."

You don't suppose by the time those 6 SSN are built that the leased SSNs will be let go. I.e. overcounting?

You don't want your SSBN anywhere near your CBG, lest its location can be tracked.

You might be right. Jane said CCS cleared 6 SSBN, but this article says it was 6 SSN.

But the article also says development of K5 Misile which will require a new class of SSBN to carry them since they will not fit into the Arihant class.

About the Akula-II Lease, it is likely that the lease will be extended rather than let go. IN and GoI has that option available to them on the contract.

But consider the worst case scenario, IN will have 10 Nuclear submarines, at Best case scenario, IN will have 17.

The question to be asked of our congress walahs on this forum: WTF was the Congress doing for the past 10 years? Bloody poodle-faking!

We would have had all this muscle by now if they had concentrated more on defence of the country than indulging in freebie politics and corruption!

Don't get carried away with hype on Chinese J11 or j20 oor JF17 . We already have a formidable airforce which can take on Chinese in 1 on 1 battle. They always overestimate their capabilities. I really wonder how many mistakes China will make .THE actual war they fought was with Vietnam with full force of nearly 300000 - 400000 regulars against 100000 strong regulars Vietnamese and their people who came forward to hold their ground. Yet they lost because war is not just about weapons but about the WILL of the soldiers to fight for. In 1962 Chinese took on ill equipped Indian Army who fought battle with ww2 riffle against Machine guns of fully equipped overwhelmed Chinese troops. Yet our jawans stood their till they sacrificed in the battle which had no advantage . IAF is well equipped with a some fire power and will be equipped with even more might of raw fire power in coming years. Navy needs to be given more attention at least for the next 30 years . And maintain technology superiority over Chinese ripoff.

:D till April 13th ....

Mean while I don't have no clue what you are talking about ;)

I believe its your additonal id?

I have no idea. This is'nt something that I am following closely.

Do you know someone who can shed more light?

So India has plans to operate at least 6 SSBNs and 8 SSNs by 2030. Thats awesome!!!!

As i said before in 2011, the displacement of Indian made SSN will be between 4800-6000 tonnes. The projected tonnage fits perfectly. :D

.
I knew that follow on Arihant class will have displacemnt of 10,000 plus.

I was right

I'm actually looking to know what is the rating of its power reactor? It certainly has to be more than 84 MW currently used.
Akula 2 has on-board power plant of 190+ MW rating and if we are looking at similar displacement size vessel, it means more than doubling the core capacity of powerpack (with incremental increase in physical size of core, to accommodate more fuel bundles).
Now if such a thing is being developed, it can be used for IAC 2 as well (in pairs) and hence all this development if seen holistically has large implications on how our fleet (especially proposed CBGs) would look in next decade onwards.

But twist in the story ! Given the future challenge will be higher than Himalayas and deeper than SCS . We will add atleast 6-7 10,000 T SSBN . And more over this is not the submerged tonnage . For example our INS Chakra is about 12000 T submerged but it's only 8000 T . I don't see any reason to stop just with three submarines. Like people use to belive INS Vishal is the last of super carriers :D

Well can't be a myth, logically the size looks like a natural development of current product (Arihant) and considering the roles envisaged, it is not unrealistic. However there is still a long way to go as far as manufacturing capability is concerned.
