What's new

Taiwan worries it will lose TSMC after Morris Chang confirmed its 3nm fabs and more engineers will be moved to US.

No war needed. TSMC is taking apart their plant and moving them to the US along with all the engineers. Once the move are completed, Taiwan will be discarded.

Exactly!

US cares only about TSMC.

Taiwan itself is useless.

.
Actually China is trying to take over industries that Taiwan has specialized in so that if they did invade Taiwan there wouldn't be a global uproar over a parts shortage.

Nobody is really upset with Russia invading Ukraine because people can still buy their usual consumer goods. So in the eyes of most of the world Ukraine is just some minor sideshow.

However if China invaded Taiwan and people couldn't buy their favorite phone, laptop, videocard, etc due to a parts shortage that might raise a negative worldwide PR response towards China.

To mitigate this the Chinese are trying to achieve a situation where they can say "hey don't worry about the war..we can supply all the needed chips/parts that Taiwan used to supply".

To counter this the US is simply throwing stumbling blocks in their path to slow them down...like having ASML stop selling them chip making equipment..etc. Telling Taiwan to stop replicating their plants in China as they are just shooting themselves in the foot in the long term.
China is trying to invade Taiwan to destroy/take over TSMC and make China the world's dominant chip manufacturer in the future, China's effort in the chip manufacturing field isn't a solution to the Taiwan invadion, the Taiwan invasion is a solution to China's chip industry. Result driven Chinese government couldn't care less about "reunification", it's all about money.

I think you're mistaken, China will be hated internationally regardless of any chip shortage it would definitely cause.

"No body is upset with Russia" are you living under a rock? Minor sideshow? That's literally the main topic in the west ever since the war began. Also, the Ukraine war disrupted the energy and grain market.

Russia at least had the excuse that Ukraine was fighting Russian separatists and look at the hatred against Russia, imagine the kind of feedback China will receive for starting a war with some distant island that had peace for the last 7 decades.

There's no such thing as "shooting yourself in the foot long term" against countries that are looking for industrial independence, China is going to try and manyfacture chips by themselves regardless. Making it harder for the Chinese is perfectly logical.

WTF?
This just shows how completely stupid you are.
The US does have chip companies and manufacturing facilities here. They have had them for probably 60 years.

ASML is a dutch firm.

You think dumb american baby boomers build the IC chips?

Only Jewish, Germanic and Chinese people have the brains.

Dumb americans are only good at watching reality shows.

.
The questions is how the dumb idiotic current generation americans build the chips?

Only Chinese (including the Taiwanese) have the brains to build any complex technology.

The current day americans are only good at watching shows like the biggest loser.
Lol, America has invented far more than China ever did. China can copy the US all they want, they will always be one step behind.

Even small Israel had Tower Semiconductors that was purchased by intel for 5 billion dollars, 1 active + 2 future chip manufacturing plants. Those factories exported 40 billion dollars worth of chips.

There won't be any war.

Taiwan will be a repeat of HK 2.0

US is just trying to salvage the situation but it won't work unless US does a Operation Paperclip 2.0 to kidnap and airlift all Taiwanese working at TSMC.

Americans are incapable of building complex tech like IC Chips.
Of course there won't be a war, we all saw China's threats when Pelosi landed, and how they accomplished them.

Hong Kong is a different scenario, HK truly stood no chance, because of their size and proximity to China. Taiwan is a bigger fish to swallow.

Dumb americans are only good at watching reality shows.
While that is certainly easy to believe, let's not delude ourselves to think the US is full of stupid people. US has many brilliant people, its universities are some of the best in the world.

China is trying to invade Taiwan to destroy/take over TSMC and make China the world's dominant chip manufacturer in the future,

Certainly being #1 is a high priority with them. now the question is is being #1 ahead of reclaiming Taiwan or is reclaiming Taiwan ahead of being #1 in chip making.

I think you're mistaken, China will be hated internationally regardless of any chip shortage it would definitely cause.

Sure...but for how long...5 months...people have short memories when important world things happen.

"No body is upset with Russia" are you living under a rock? Minor sideshow? That's literally the main topic in the west ever since the war began. Also, the Ukraine war disrupted the energy and grain market.

That's correct...nobody is...because I don't see 100,000 people infront of the Russian embassies throughout the world demanding them to get the #$@# out of Ukraine. That's what I mean by nobody is upset.

There's no such thing as "shooting yourself in the foot long term" against countries that are looking for industrial independence, China is going to try and manyfacture chips by themselves regardless. Making it harder for the Chinese is perfectly logical.

Well if Taiwan wants to stay relevant they shouldn't be moving manufacturing to the country determined to make them irrelevant.

LOL both J. Robert Oppenheimer and Albert Einstein were German Jews.

The greatest Mathematician today is Terence Tao who is a Chinese.

Enough said.

The long term US plan is to reduce Taiwan's chip sector because they think it is under risk.

It will be ukriane play book. They will get weapons but no direct war.

Problem is Taiwan unlike ukriane will be under total blackout

China won't provoke Taiwan
It will let Taiwan make the first move, justifying it's war

Hong Kong is a different scenario, HK truly stood no chance, because of their size and proximity to China. Taiwan is a bigger fish to swallow.

Let's see if US is able to kidnap the Chinese employees working at TSMC in Taiwan.

I am sure that China will come to their rescue and prevent them from being kidnapped.

The US is the 2nd biggest population center for Jews after the US, and they aren't that far off either.

So even if you go through that narrative you aren't really correct. But there are plenty of non-Jews in the US that are smart as well.

.
Good. Then there is no need for someone as 'smart' as you are mixing with US 'dummies', right? You can leave the discussion now.

Hello!

This is a Pakistani forum not Iraq.

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.” - John Kerry, the Democratic US senator

Oh I have no doubt that Taiwan's chip industry will be decimated. The question is China will hold up its hand and say "Don't worry our factories will take up the slack" which will make the developing world happy..but not the developed world...so then what...
Assume that there is a war for now. Once the dust settled China will be politically and economically isolated. Anything 'high tech' foreign will be denied to China. The Third World will be China's main customers.

ASML is a dutch firm.

Yes, a dutch firm putting parts together from lots of high tech companies based in Europe and the US. They don't make all the critical parts in-house as that would require insane amounts of R&D specialty. They are leveraging technology breakthroughs created and maintained by multiple companies.

You think dumb american baby boomers build the IC chips?

Wow you really are completely clueless.

Ever hear of Intel? Where do you think they make most of their chips? You think Taiwan and China are the ones making them? Um..no...think again.

They won't do anything that wouldn't benefit them. I would say being #1 is ahead of getting Taiwan, and is only achievable by getting Taiwan.
Sure...but for how long...5 months...people have short memories when important world things happen.
Optimistic, that's under the assumption it would take less than 5 months for China to take Taiwan. I doubt they would be able to do that at all.

That's correct...nobody is...because I don't see 100,000 people infront of the Russian embassies throughout the world demanding them to get the #$@# out of Ukraine. That's what I mean by nobody is upset.
That's mostly because all of the anti-Russia countries (Also the ones affected the most by the war) expelled the Russian embassies.
There were a lot of demonstrations in front of many Russian embassies around the world. No one really believes this would stop the war.
Well if Taiwan wants to stay relevant they shouldn't be moving manufacturing to the country determined to make them irrelevant.
Nope, a war against China would make them insantly irrelevant. It isn't moving manufacturing, it's expanding manufacturing.
