Its the right decision, if you cant live like the locals then you dont deserve the citizenship.

People are fed up with EU.

A poll by ORF radio in October 2008 reported that about half of the population of Vorarlberg would be in favour of joining Switzerland.

In Como, an online poll in June 2010 by the La Provincia di Como newspaper found 74% of 2,500 respondents in favor of accession to Switzerland, which the local regionalist party Lega Lombarda has long been advocating.

Another online poll by the South German Südkurier newspaper found that almost 70% of respondents replied "yes, the Swiss are closer to us in outlook" to a question whether the state of Baden-Württemberg should join Switzerland. The paper noted that seldom had a topic generated so much activity by its readership.

The Lombard eco-nationalist party Domà Nunch replied to Baettig's motion proposing an integration between Switzerland and the Italian border-area of Insubria in order to join into a new Confederation.

In Sardinia, the Associazione no-profit Sardegna Canton Marittimo was formed in April 2014 with the aim of advocating Sardinia's secession from Italy and becoming a "maritime canton" of Switzerland.

Die Welt in June 2014 based on an OECD study published an article arguing that Southern Germany is more similar to Switzerland than to Northern or Eastern Germany. In the wake of the article, there were once again reports on high levels of support for accession to Switzerland in Southern Germany. Schwäbische Zeitung reported 86% of participants in an online survey expressing approval.

Also in 2014, there were reports of a popular movement in South Tyrol to join Switzerland. The 6th "Global Forum Südtirol" held in Bolzano was dedicated to the question.

As possible candidates for accession, the motion named Alsace (FR), Aosta (IT), Jura (FR), Vorarlberg (AT), Ain (FR), Savoie (FR), Baden-Württemberg (DE), Varese (IT), Como (IT) "and others".

A common arguement against leaving the EU made by people here is that "we'll end up like Switzerland". As if there's anything wrong with being like Switzerland!

Why do you want to force your culture on everyone else? Why do you think you think white culture is superior to non-white culture? Why do you want deport little boys for not shaking a woman's hand?

BTW http://www.foxnews.com/story/2008/11/04/ladies-hands-hold-more-germs-than-men-study-finds.html

There is no smoke without fire.

Excuse me? I am not forcing anything on anybody. I've not indicated anything even vaguely hinting about what I might or might not think is superior to what else. I'm not even Swiss or in/from Switzerland. Nor am I or is my country deporting anybody for not shaking hands. And at least I don't go around insulting people mindlessly and needlessly (@MOD).

Your study only says it found a greater VARIETY of germs on womens' hands. Not MORE germs. I sincerely hope you understand the difference. For everyone sound advise is always "Wash your hands, folks". But you seek to use that as a poor excuse to imply (all) women (in general) are somehow 'dirtier' than men and - therefor - should not be shaken hands with.

(Besides... all of a sudden you've started to trust the much detested US news organization FOX NEWS? ;-)

What is your problem?

Yes , don't see why shaking anyone's hand has anything to do with anything

Germs are transmitted by hand shake
Yeah, but nice folks - like us posters here are PDF, for example - all have good personaly hygiene and wash our hands with soap and clean water regularly. Or an alcohol rub.

Hi,
Germs are transmitted by touching your phone's screen, your keyboards even your clothes (yes there are germs in your clothes ).
Aaargh! Stop, you're making me mysophobic!!!! Can't work in the office garden no more, can't use the computer lab at the university no more......

What if the hands were cold , he could have refused hand shake if the other person's hand was too cold quite uncomfortable :cheesy:
So, tell me, how would he know without touching hands first???

ah!

Muslims men don't shake hands with female? Is it true? because in SG, I haven't seen such type of things with Indonesian and Malaysian muslims :-/
Not all its a choice...Which surprisingly Switzerland being all modern should respect!

Interesting read.
http://www.rukhsanakhan.com/articles/shakinghands.html

In Western culture, etiquette (apparently) prescribes that a man waits for a woman to offer her hand first. If she does, then you shake it just as you’d shake a man’s.
http://www.gq.com/story/women-hand-shaking

http://www.lifescript.com/well-being/articles/a/a_guide_to_proper_handshake_etiquette.aspx

Unfortunately, Western etiquette does not specifically speak to the situation where a male refuses to shake with a woman, as far as I can tell. So, 'our ' etiquette' may actually be harder for male muslims to deal with, than it is for women.

http://emilypost.com/2012/04/handshake-habits-proper-introductions/

I would think explaining and clarifying is a good route to take, though it may still leave the person who was expecting a shake but got a refusal to feel like there is something wrong.

See this example: http://translationtimes.blogspot.nl/2014/02/business-etiquette-not-shaking-hands.html

Some feel it is almost the wordt social faux pas to refuse a handshake, short of slapping someone in the face. One should realize that.

In Japan, ignoring a greeting (bow), is similar to refusing to shake hands in Europe.

I don't think it is an issue for government to make rules on, though, even if I do also feel that it may hamper social integration in a new home country.

The issue applies for orthodox Jews and orthodox Hindu's too, by the way.
Sadly some countries are showing the level of intolerance.....

Shaking a hand or not is a personal choice...even though the monarchy of the Western countries are ceremonial, Queen wears gloves when she "does" shake her hands...but she is uplifted and told she is special/ royal even in 2016! But if someone else feels like a Queen/ King it is subjected to intolerance...

If they really think or care about equality, I suggest they stat by going and shaking the hands of royalties without gloves and then force everyone else to shake hands too just to see if they are suitable citizens ....talk about petty nonsense!

Lately you're telling us alot of how host countries should bend over to accomodate these ungrateful bigots.

Not shaking a woman's hand in our societies it's a sign that you don't consider her an equal and it's an insult. These fundamentalists can bugger off to cavenistan and treat their women like farm animals there not in a modern society,on our expense. It's the Swiss house, you're not going to win any favours if you spit on them on the pretext of your religion.

bend over? its just a handshake for god sake! WTH does that prove? Only to intolerant people it can mean alot!

No, I have never heard any such thing and I have been around "your" community for more than 2 decades! And so far I have not read a single piece of "law" stating you MUST shake a woman/ man's hand...

I assume the bold part is "the ONLY" reason you opened this thread..Phobia and anxiety of seeing everything under religious speculation isnt going to get you far! If they treat their woman as anything less than a human then sure put forward your law and throw him in jail or whatever....Mind you even then "your law" states evidence needs to be provided, a report lodged! No one is that much bothered to step in to make it their business....THAT is the Western way!

 that would have been something ...Not sure if Italy would have agreed!

It's not a law ,it's common courtesy. You're not allowed to insult us on the basis of your religion.Stop writing epic wall of texts to a simple statement of mine.

If it's about germs, then I suggest people to not bother living on this planet, there are germs crawling on your skin as we speak :D

Your statement is not simple and it is for sure not the end of the world if you get educated...Prob due t your lack of interest to read you refuse to educate yourself in basics...

It is common courtesy of a host to behave well and not find excuse to kick out their guests ....And according to EU laws the right to practice one's religion happens to be 1 of the rights "offered" in the West and bragged about....so if religion is all you can see from it...Then it is also common courtesy in West not to take away that right! Especially since Switzerland has been priding itself as being a country which allows equality and freedom to practice their religion!

ALSO a man/ woman doesnt become "disrespected" coz his/ her hand wasnt shook....What sort of cheap mentality is that? I have not seen anyone cry over it UNLESS it was their "idol" who ignored them and broke their hearts ...and mind you even in "modern west" that is seen as childish!

I don't see how your response in any way relates to that post of mine that you quoted.

In Sweden, a muslim minister, Mehmet Kaplan, decided to resign from the government (was forced to) due to
contacts with extremist like the Turkish Gray Wolves.
The revelation that he previously was calling Israel Nazis was the final nail in the coffin.

Even the pro-Palestinian foreign minister Margot Wallström criticized him in strong words.

The environmental party, where mer Kaplan belonged, then planned to replace him with another Muslim,
which refused to shake hand with the female interviewer just a few hours after the announcement.
Within a day, this Guy had resigned from all positions and declared that he has left politiks.

In Sweden we shake hands, Also with women..
Refusing is an insult both to the Female in question and to Women in general.
You consider it disrespect we Muslims consider it respect to the woman and her family.

Now what will happen if I don't shake hands with a woman that I don't know would the world stop spinning or the woman lose her job or it's the end of the world.

I think we Muslims respect woman more than the others many folds of times that's our believe and we are free to believe so and no one has the rite to tell me to change mine.

Now Muslims are not isis or terrorists and every one try to blame Muslims for it he is not innocent and he has problem with Muslims based on religious complexes.

stop it and get a life.

I am a practicing Muslim and i shake hands with women in Pakistan too. In fact me and my class fellows do it casually. These westerners have narrow views about Islam and they think that Islam is presented by a few conservative so-called Muslims.

It's not a problem but the one with many complexes think every eye scan is a conspiracy come on please our life on this planet is so short so let's accept each other and let us live in peace why we should leave hate to our innocent kids.

Your study only says it found a greater VARIETY of germs on womens' hands. Not MORE germs. I sincerely hope you understand the difference.
That's absurd because our women weather mothers sisters or wives cook for us daily we never got sick from that please guys stop it it is really pathetic.
