PM Nawaz pays surprise visit to two commercial centres in Islamabad

You have to know his background. His father had a small business, an iron foundry actually where they would melt scrap iron and produce some basic iron products. That foundry was nationalized by ZA Bhutto like many other thus their resentment with Bhutto. So how did he entered politics from a businessman? Enter General Zia ul Haq, a person who is responsible for most of the mess we are in today. He handpicked Nawaz Sharif and appointed him Finance minister and then Chief Minister of Punjab. No there were no polls, it was Military Rule. He would take orders from General Gilani and receive patronage from Gen Zia. Once Zia declared him his son! His fortunes multiplied and a huge industrial empire started to take shape. ISI directly funded his election alliance in 1988 elections and he formed government in Punjab against central government of Benazir Bhutto. With huge sums of money from military and his industrial empire he bought MPs and deadlocked Benazir govt in a shameless show of hostlity. Again with backdoor buying he would bring Benazir govt down only within two years and become Prime Minister. When a case is accepted to be heard in Pakistan Supreme Court he went on to charge inside supreme court, vandalised the apex court. He also forced one Army Chief to resign and tried to remove unceremoniously another.

He is a dictator in his party and no one can dare dissent from him. Only his family members and relatives get key appointments in governments. There are no elections in his party and there is no confusion that only his sons and daughters are eligible to rise to replace him. His younger brother runs Punjab. His daughter holds official meetings and passes orders to top beauraucrates. She has no official portfolio but has dispensed Billions of rupees of tax payers money through her orders. Just because she is his daughter.

All important portfolios in government are only held by his family or extended family. They only work to expand his industrial empire which is worth multi billion dollars now. They have business and factories in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, England, Europe and many other. Only their factories grow. They have killed our textile and leather industry which offered them competition. When entire Pakistan suffers from energy shortage, their factories get uninterrupted supply of gas and electricity at nominal prices. Their overtures to India are solely based on their business interests and has nothing to do with Pakistan's national interest or something.

Their Saudi love affair is another thing. He has a legendary cowardice. What else you expect when he has been brought by a Military dictator. His rigging in election is no secret and attacking Pakistan's armed forces when they were fighting war of our future is also no secret. His broken election campaign motto that loadshedding will end completely within 6-12 months is vividly fresh in our mind. There is 12 hours loadshedding as of now. The list is very long.

Indians make a mistake of thinking good of him because of his overtures to India and anti-army (same Army that introduced him) anti- Mushshraf stance. For us he will sell our country for his business. He freezes in his tracks at times when leadership is required. After Peshawar attack he went dormant! Can you believe that?

He is just trying to boost his business.
There is some clear bias from you.

Zia gave him the factory back even though industries were still at the hands of gov't. So that gave him a monopoly. Also Zia was looking for future leaders and Nawaz came out to be one.

But I agree with other parts such as him being dictator in party. Though the founding father is going to be dictator mostly, after all, it is called PML-Nawaz.

But, he's the best choice we've. Other choice is, Zardari, bilawal, Imran khan (who is controlled by lotas). So it is best to see who comes out best in 2018.

He's the Prime Minister, He has to have security.

Some of these idiot Pakistanis think the Prime Minister of a country should not be having foreign tours and protocols.

What kind of idiot logic is this?

What if he is assassinated. Do you know how bad that would look? Stocks would plummet and economy would be in free fall.

They think he should be on khota rari and dressed poor so he can show to the world "look how poor and pathetic Pakistanis are".

These have people have no concept of attention to detail and creating perception. The leader of a nation must be presented like a leader regardless who he is.

I don't understand why he is hated so much in Pakistan . Maybe there's something I don't know that most Pakistanis do.
But he seems like a good chap. I mean Pak is in deep trouble right now and he is trying all he can to boost its economy . No one seems to give credit to his work. I understand that oratory skills are not his strong points, but he's humble and respectful and those are some good qualities. Every party has some bad eggs and PMLN too has some. After all he doesn't have a magic wand that will make everything go away. I am impressed by his initiatives on many fronts like economic rejuvenation, Infra projects undertaking especially Electricity generation, transport infra and also fighting the islamic terrorism. Every time I see Pakistanis give all the credit to the army for WoT and nothing to the civilian government. The initiatives he has undertaken surely would take some years to produce tangible results.

Am I missing something ?

he represents Punjab.

People doesn't hate him but some of the members of his party

e.g Ayaz sadiq,he made him speaker of the assembly and he's elected through rigging

Actually i like Ishaq dar from his party for his push to the economic growth

Its politics, wonder why Imran can never be the PM of a country which is rotten to the core with corruption. Right now he is running tight rope and lets hope he can control all these vultures by feeding them a bone every once a while.

What's the point here? He's the head of the state and by the constitution, he gets the security he deserves. BTW, he doesn't get to pick the 150 vehicles (by the way, NO ONE gets 150 cars so please, exaggerate to a degree where it doesn't look like simple bullshiit). Oh and this might hurt a bit more....guess who protects him and is responsible for his life......?? The Pakistani Army! Your 111 brigade sets up his security details, just so you know :-)

He's the head of the state and by the constitution, he gets the security he deserves.

Okay so let me enlighten you:

Even before the Shariff brothers become heads of state, they were given an enourmous ammount of security... Far beyond what is normally mandated for a ex PM and CM... A senior official of the Punjab Police conceded that around 1200 Punjab Police personnel were performing the security duties of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. 761 policemen who continue to provide VVIP security to the Sharifs in Lahore

Just the security staff of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz sharif alone use 54 Vehicles, this high number even after the IG Punjab withdrew 50% of the vehicles from Security detail because of operational costs!

There are more than 5,700 personnel of the Punjab elite force, as per statistics collected from the Punjab Home Department, more than 75 percent strength of the total Elite Force personnel in Lahore has been deployed to ensure ‘foolproof security’ to the VIPs of Punjab. Many of them are guarding and escorting PM Nawaz Sharif, CM Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Salman Shahbaz, Nusrat Shahbaz, Tehmina Shahbaz, Maryam Nawaz, Captain (r) Mohammad Safdar, Imran Yousaf and other family members.

What's the point here?
So you asked me, what is the point here:

Our head of state:
Nawaz-Sharif-Security.jpg

And his public:
12875-reutersvipprotocol-1342771325-473-640x480.jpg

* Picture taken in the summer months with sweltering heat of Lahore which according to AccuWeather was about 36*C minimum and 46*c Maximum. That is between 96.8 and 114.8 Fahrenheit.

^ Given the above and the fact that Hyperthermia can start setting in at 99*F, and the fact that an average route wait time between the RPF and the Pilot arriving on scene to the route clearing and moving on can be anywhere between 10 minutes to the good part of half an hour..... Well you do the maths!

BTW, he doesn't get to pick the 150 vehicles (by the way, NO ONE gets 150 cars so please, exaggerate to a degree where it doesn't look like simple bullshiit).

The personal protocol can vary between 36 and over 150 vehicles that does not include the vehicles used by the "VPF": Venue Protection Force ( you Americans know it as advancing) and the "Route Protection Force" again separate to the close protection/personal security detail of the VVIP, you think all those specialist officers attend such high security movements on peddle bikes and tongas?

An example of 39 Vehicles and a Helicopter:

Huge VIP protocol of PM Nawaz Sharif

An Example of 130 vehicle protocol

Another disgusting example of how our leaders get more security than they are worth:

What's the point here? He's the head of the state and by the constitution, he gets the security he deserves.

Granted he is our head of state and deserves security, so tell me this... Why does his son need a 20 vehicle convoy and a the use of a Government of Punjab helicopter to be at his disposal, when he has no official function as far as Pakistan is concerned?

For your viewing pleasure:

Also in those videos you will see many armored vehicles such as the S500 and the Landcruiser Amazon SUV.
Here is a breakdown of costs

Each S500 costs Pakistani Government $850,000 per vehicle.

Each high security BMW 7 series costs the Pakistani government Rs.224 million

Locally upgraded Pickup known as the "Vigo" is about 2 million for the chassis and another 3 million for the upgrades.

Each SUV can between 50 million to 100 million depending on where it is upgraded - as in at Toyota or International Armoring Group USA etc...

---
Now compare that to the UK which also has threat of terrorism and crime and if anything their PM is more at risk of being attacked by Radicals in their country than our is in Punjab.... Look at the difference:

Clear_the_way_for_the_VIP.jpg

3 police outriders a lead vehicle and a follow vehicle on the rear... No unnecessary traffic jams, no extended cordons or farcical "protocol". Just sensible and effective security.

The Pakistani Army! Your 111 brigade sets up his security details, just so you know :-)

Just so you know, because your an American, I can forgive your ignorance. But let me educate you about something!

The 111 brigade does not, and I repeat DOES NOT protect the PM or the President or the Chief Minister. They are an infantry brigade with an elite wing of FP(Force Protection) and Vital Installation Security Quick Response Force. They protect defense installations and only protected the Parliament back in 2014 at the behest of the besieged government... The only people the 111 brigade QRF and CP teams will protect at COAS and senior military officers. Their Vehicles are easily distinguishable from Police and standard law enforcement:

Army Security provided to the COAS by Military Police and Provost, Constitution avenue, Islamabad:

*Notice the difference in markings please.

The protection of the Civilian leadership is primary function of Elite Police Force and Local Police... There are several departments involved like MT, SB, CIA, ELITE FORCE, SECURITY, DP, Traffic etc... But 111 brigade don't waste their time protecting these "leaders".

On average it costs over Rs. 20 million a week just to maintain the security bubble around Nawaz Sharif and his brother. That's 80 million rupees a Month... The average cost of maintaining an airworthy helicopter is between 10/15,000 USD per month, and average cost of fueling is $1000/$2500 per trip... The run flat tires on a Mercedes S500 needs to be replaced after every 30,000 miles or when the wear is 2/32 of the remaining tread, front tires cost $600 per tire and back tires cost $800 per tire to replace.

The KN type filter on a landcruiser SUV is roughly about $100 dollars and needs to be replaced every 20,000 miles in normal conditions, given the harsh Pakistani environment you can cut this down to half...

To put it into perspective, every summer almost 40,000 people report snake bites of some degree or another. Some are fatal those who survive only do so because somehow their families have managed to scrape together the money needed to pay for the expensive Polyvalent anti-snake venom which is roughly Rs. 4000 per vial and you may need upto 4 doses depending on the type of snake, exposure etc... The average Pakistani laborer (people most at risk of getting bit by a snake) earn less than Rs. 200 a day!

  • A nann bread costs 3 rupees at a local tandoor (bakery), the price of 1 air filter for a bullet proof SUV can provide 30,351 nann breads!
  • A set of text books, school bag, uniform and school fees for a year at a government school costs 15,500. If the "leaders" of Pakistan, flew one less helicopter they could provide enough money to put an extra 64 children through secondary education.
  • The price of replacing one, just ONE run flat tire for a bullet proof SUV can provide 15 vials of snake antivenom to local hospitals.
  • Finally, the security package for the Shariff brothers costs Rs. 20 millon a week, that's 80 million a month. Just one weeks security budget would allow the government to build 16 new schools or provide the training and money needed to set up 35 basic health units staffed with a local dispenser in remote villages. so people don't have to make the difficult and expensive journey into cities and districts to get medical treatment.

I suppose the point I am trying to make is, if our leaders actually thought about all of this and did something to help their people rather than hand out laptops and build concrete bridges, they would not need any security, we would be their security for them...

Finally please don't assume people on this forum are strays who like to talk without knowledge or experience in matters. Thank you.

Absolutely amazing. Height of shamelessness. This reminds me the scenes of the movies on Roman empire and how the Roman emperors used to move surrounded with legions.

You are right and wrong.

First of all, how many UK prime ministers have faced assassination attempts? We had one our PM assassinated back in 50s, then army chief crashed in plane (possibly intentional), benazir killed, Musharraf faced many assassination attempts, governor's own body guard killed him.

We don't need 150 vehicles for PM security (Though admittedly, that doesn't happen every single time). But to compare UK with Pakistan is like comparing space with sea.

If the PM, or CM is assassinated, economy of Pakistan will crash. Businesses will flee outside of Pakistan and so forth.

I don't think it gives pleasure to the PM or CM that he has 150 cars around him. But he does want fool proof security. So the police chief or whoever assigns a much of cars and men to satisfy him and make him feel secure. British police and Pakistani police are not comparable. British general people will not attack their PM, but in Pakistan, many would love to hit Nawaz with shoes or so forth.

"I suppose the point I am trying to make is, if our leaders actually thought about all of this and did something to help their people rather than hand out laptops and build concrete bridges, they would not need any security, we would be their security for them..."

Yeah that worked so well for Benazir and Liaquat or Ghandi. People can never replace security.

Oh and UK has very good intelligence agency. Also weapons aren't sold there like the way they're in Pakistan. I don't think in UK one can buy a grenade the easy way one can get in Pakistan. Pakistan is a lawless country and still a third world. Don't compare it to a advanced nation like UK.

Tl/Dr, if a Pakistani PM is not secure, Pakistani nukes are not secure. If nukes/PM are not secured, Pakistan is a failed state.

Do you think you are debating with a total fool here???? Allow me to shed some light for you about YOUR country and how the security works . You've put wrong content here which isn't right. Out of your political affiliations, you are accusing one party who isn't here to defend themselves so I'll highlight some facts:

1) The motorcade you showed, isn't JUST for one leader of the state. Propaganda is one thing but flat out lying is another. If you open your eyes, you'll see that there are about four security details in this one long video. Now after each one passes by, take a look at the number of black sedans (Mercedes S 500's used for the PM and for any Head of State Visiting). You'll find that there are about 3-4 Sedans, which tells you that its probably one or two PM's or Presidents of different state visiting. Or, one PM or President with their Senior Federal Ministers visiting, and then add your PM and CM too. That is, if this is truly Lahore and not Islamabad.

2) Its unbelievable that out of an entire force of a metropolitan city, 75% of the entire Elite force is allocated over a few bodies (so about 10000 out of 15000??). Its also not true either.
For the CM and PM's residence, there is a contingent of Elite force trained for rescue and escort jobs in "hot" environments like the one you find in Pakistan where Taliban terrorists used to roam free and were able to attack at will.

3) The PM's security is your military's responsibility per the constitution. There will ALWAYS be 111 Brigade's small contingent assign to protect the PM. PLUS, the Security detail comes from a Brigadier ranked officer assigned to your PM's office by your military. He sits in the PM house and without his approval, the PM doesn't move. It was the military's decision to send your PM's bullet proof vehicle to Nepal no to long ago.
If you don't believe it, check out a clearer video again and you'll see a couple of unmarked cars with black tinted screens. Those are your special forces guys assigned to protect your PM and they specialize in counter assault, in case someone initiated an assault on the motorcade.

4) I've seen General Zia's motorcade when I last met him, I've seen Musharraff's motorcade in 1999 right after the coupe when I was in Islamabad for a two day meeting. So PLEASE, don't tell me that those guys were blessings in disguise instead of being plain old dictators, while, NS and othrs are the worst thing as your IK can't seem to understand how to be a politician and all you could do is just bash NS.

5) Now back to reality, I agree with the most fundamental idea of your post (outside of playing personals and favorites). A country as poor as Pakistan, the security detail has always bothered me. Like i said, I've seen Gen. Zia, Mushy, Baig, NS, Benazir and many of your ministers, it used to blow my mind away how poor people's tax dollars were being wasted in show offs security details. That's the sad reality of Pakistan.

But at this time, you also have to realize, you are in a democratic system and Pakistan isn't a 90's country, it is now a nuke power, whether I like it or not. So, protecting your PM and COAS in a way shows off protection for your military might and assets. The country would go through chaos if a serious attack took out the elected PM and a couple of senior leaders. The world will have NO trust left in Pakistan's safety of its nukes. So since 2001, there is a need for tighter security. Back in the 90's, it used to be a waste of tax dollars and a total show off like I mentioned before.

Indian PM NOW, after so much growth and availability of $$$$ shows off some serious security detail. In fact, they have modeled their security detail similar to the US with some serious style. I remember in the 90's, Indian PM's would be sitting in their Mruti's to promote Made in India products and Pakistani PM's and Generals would be sitting in high end Mercedes Benzes.
Guess what worked? A nation's hard work and resolve took them way up and the ones doing show off are left behind. Pakistani nation now needs hard work and supporting the elected government is the best way to do it. When the votes come, you can vote against NS, if you win, great. If your guy loses it, then sorry, its called democracy for you. You'll have to wait another term.

I used to study at a place in military zone. It happened to be 15 mins or so far from airport.

I was a school kid back then and I saw Musharraf's motorcade 5-10 feets away. And I can tell you, it wasn't small.

In my previous post I listed how Pakistan have dead PM and so forth. Pakistani PM needs security. Not 150 cars, but certainly not 5 either.

It's funny how in the original video and thread, there were a handful of security guards. And the thread changed the entire view to involve 150 cars, not to mention the person also happen to discuss PPP motorcade, a different political party.

This goes on to show how people can post so much nonsense combined with some truth to make it all look real. He also discuss how the PM gets to buy these million dollar security cars but doesn't discuss how the COAS and judge people also enjoy similar luxury cars.

I would like to know. Can you please elaborate ?

Just like his bull shiit references and wrong videos and pictures that he posted of other places and incidents, some weren't even in Pakistan!!! Propaganda machine at its finest. Where you can lie off your teeth and still think you made a difference!

And how is India any different? Don't you have Brahamins who think they own the world and every single Indian citizen is a second degree person? Before you decline it, know that two of my very good friends are Brahmans. I hear it first hand what they think of the remainder of humanity, including us, the "stupid" Americans as they refer to people in the US. Well, I am a friend so I hear and say and its tolerated.

Next, did India not have the Gandhis, the Singhs, the Rathors, the Thakurs and all? Did India not have businessmen that did corruption and lots of it? Did India not have military generals who didn't do corruption for billions of rupees? Does India not have a religious issue where others (minorities) till today are persecuted and killed? Forceful "home comings" are being staged to bring back "converted Christians, Muslims, etc back to Hinduism or else" by the Hindu extremist organizations??.

The fact is, both the genetics are the same in India and Pakisan. India's face saving even with the same mentality of people and problems is due to the Democratic system, which then brings tolerance of others to some level. In Pakistan, tolerance is a rare bird and there were two left around 1950's. No one know where they went since. This very thread is a prime example of the lack of a system, a systematic thought and tolerance for others.
People are biitching about an elected officials security, you have think tanks posting wrong and misinformation with links from other countries, trying to portray them to be Pakistan, to make their point based on baseless facts. ALL because the PM isn't their guy. Their leader hasn't shown respect to others, doesn't respect the mandate and the right of people to vote, doesn't respect the running government and the parliament. But tells people to go do violent, which this guy's seen the world and was educated in the UK and had a Caucasian Jewish Wife!!! Go figure where his tolerance left after doing all that. People on here, follow the same disrespectful, demeaning and undemocratic way of showing displeasure for one or more individuals, without a reason (or the reasons are made up like the videos which were posted from Indonesia or Malaysia, trying to prove a Pakistan related discussion)
