Not a bad idea. A380 is certified to carry upto 819 passengers in an all economy class with a good range.
The issue that comes next is where will one start operations from.

For example we take Pakistan then:
1) Pakistan does not allow an operator to operate domestic or international routes till one is having Charter licence or Regular public transport licence.
2) Requirements for these are similar. i.e minimum aircraft required for domestic operations are 3 for international 5. One can not go international till 5 years of profitable operation.
3) A380 can only be operated from Islamabad international airport.

again feasibility problems, it takes certain time for a pilot to switch from one platform to another, my friend flies for Air Blue and he went from Boeing to Airbus (or the other way around) and he literally had to go through a vigorous training session, also they need refreshers even for moving from one variant to another like e.g. going from 777 to 777ER

A380 would also mean having new runways as it requires a longer runway and other infrastructure to operate. With recent news of PIA bringing back a 777 from dead makes me think that we will stick to Boeing platform, also we have defense strings attached to Boeing as well with prospects of goodies coming from Lockhead Martin coming our way

The issue is not just related to pilot training it is far more complex. As far as Boeing and airbus are concerned they are not much different and pilots can easily switch over. Are you aware that pilots with 1000's of hours require the same training if they have not flown an aircraft type in the last 180 days as to what a new trainee on the aircraft would require.

Both airbus and boeing recommend that their aircraft follow similar checklists hence it is better if pilots trained on A320 move on to A-330 / A350 / A380, B-737-400/800 to B-747 / B-767 / B-777 / B-787.

If you every fly pia you will know the ladies are so old that you would want them to sit in your seat and serve them food. Most can barely function. The men with moustaches and beards no smiles. No communication. Dumping food on your trays like they are in the village feeding animals. I took a flight once from Islamabad to skardu and the air steward had not washed his face. He literally woke up and ran to the plane. Is this what you want from pia?

........and how quickly airlines are dumping them before half their life span, like the a340-500/600's. they should have listened to boeing and should have waited 10 years to introduce it. the current engines put it a generation behind the current trent 1000/XWB,GenX enignes. hence the push for a neo version from emirates. even they have
seen its demise and will flog them one by one, once they hit 15 years of age.

A smooth and comfortable ride does not make a profitable investment. Airlines are losing money because of these big planes. There is a major shift in airlines buying smaller planes then larger ones.

A UK friend sent me this news item from the Sun about the hilarious state of PIA. Don't know if I should laugh or cry. I am sure Noor Khan must be turning in his grave at the condition that his beloved PIA is currently in. Do we really expect it to get better without an overhaul of the management & the staff? This is unlikely to happen unless PIA is completely in the private hands.

A FLIGHT from Manchester was delayed by more than seven hours after a passenger opened the plane emergency exit - after thinking it was the 'toilet door'.

Passengers on the flight were then forced to leave the plane after the emergency chute was automatically deployed.

The female passenger was travelling from Manchester Airport to Islamabad with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) when the incident occurred, according to the Express Tribune.

The woman was boarding flight PK702 when she opened door L5, the door at the back of the plane on the left hand side, after thinking it was the door to the toilet.

Passengers were then removed from the flight, with it unclear how the woman was able to open it without the cabin crew stopping her.

The departure time was pushed back from 9:20pm on the Friday to 5am on the Saturday morning, landing at 4pm the following day - seven hours later than scheduled.

When the flight did take off, 37 passengers had to be removed from the flight due to the emergency chute no longer on the aircraft, making it a legal requirement in case of an emergency evacuation.

One passenger, who offered to leave the flight after the incident, complained about the problems that followed.

A Twitter user wrote: "@Official_PIA pathetic service from PIA. I am one of the 38 passengers who voluntarily off loaded from PK702 so it can fly to Islamabad only on the condition that all 38 of us will get our luggage.

"First you did not give it to us in Manchester [and said] that it's going to take time, so don't worry it will be taken to Pakistan on your next flight.

"Then when we reached here today we were told half of our luggage is still at Manchester airport. We have suffered a lot."
