Pakistan Census 2017: Initial estimates put population at 210—220 million

I think in 2008 the estimate was 180 mil.

Afghanistan has a population of 25-30 mil.

We basically added an Afghanistan in our population in 10 years.

We need to control this population boom we start adding a Pakistan of 1947-2008 in just 30 years.

Huge populations can be an asset but Pakistan is thorughly too incompetent to use it as an asset and it will only be a burden.

5th most populous.
Top 5. Congrats.
I believe family planning is prohibited under islamic laws ?

If you keep producing babies for 19 years non stop, and then count them ......... 210-220 million is still lower than what I was expecting. Just yesterday I visited RWP and I was thinking this city's population is no way less than 20 million.

I believe family planning is prohibited under islamic laws ?

How so? What are your basis of believing such thing?

You need to have a established process for census, over here it happens every 10 year, May be something similar need to be established, as there is a regular check on population, This not only gives you the total numbers, it also gives you lot of stats.... and all the govt planning depends on these datas...... It is good that there is a progress, and it will be interesting to see how govt works on it....

Well we did have an established process. Throughout most of our history, census have been taking place every 10 years. Its only the past decade and a half (since the "war on terror" began), that this process has been disrupted, and understandably so. We have been in a quasi-state of war since Bush began his invasion of Afghanistan, and the last time a census supposed to be held i.e. 2008, we had lost 6700 people (soldiers and civilians) in terrorist attacks. This year that number is at 657, so the security situation is much better to conduct such basic things as census.

However that is no excuse for the complete lack of any family planning programme in the country (at the federal level). Some local NGO's (maybe with the help of provincial governments, im not too sure), have got family planning programmes, but it is imperative that the state step in and do something too. Its one thing if you are able to utilize a large population for the nations benefit in terms of economics (such as China did), but we have miserably failed to provide even basic education to 180 million people, forget 220 million! Corruption, crime, brain drain will only continue as population density and stress on natural resources continues to increase.

How did you come to such a conclusion? I mean on 7.5?

Not my conclusion, one needs to read IMF and WB reports on Pakistan in detail. For example, look at the disparity in the number of working age population and its rise every year, and the number of jobs created by the economy. Even if all the projections about new jobs created by CPEC are true, it is still only a tiny fraction of the jobs needed to keep the rising population employed. Those are all hard numbers, and just a small glimpse of the overall situation. All the hoopla about 4 or 5% growth rates merely hides the shortfall that accumulates every year. And the types of jobs needed to keep an economy competitive in the 21st century versus the types of jobs and uneducated (and radicalized) population are actually able to do in an underperforming economy is a whole another discussion. And on and on.

You believe wrong.
1.national level family planning is prohibited under Islam. So Pakistan cannot advocate a maximum no of children to its citizens
2. Also permanent contraception is prohibited.

.
Terrible situation and horrific sceneries in coming years.

Desperately tax the child birth

1 kid = 0 Rupee
2nd Kid = 1000 rupees
3rd = 10 Lakh/1 million Rupees
4th = 10 Million Rupees.

And so on.

SAH sb,

I am at a loss to understand why if GDP growth is less than 7.5%, Pak wud get poorer. The census suggests that the annual pop growth is around 1.5-2.0%, any grwth rate higher than 2% wud leave Pak richer, not poorer.

Regards

You are discounting inflation.
