I agree with all your point, i have my sympathy for pakistan but what about operation search light followed by 300,000 deaths and countless rapes....operation search light changed everything....if killing the biharis were the case the pakistan government should have used proper legal proceduers instead of killing more of her own people...fact of the matter is pakistan never saw east bengal people as their own people, since they did not, we took our independence. Now stop with the pakistani rajakari dalali.
You do realize that 4 of our 8 Prime Ministers all the way upto '71 were Bengalis ? Of them Suhrawardy was instrumental in creating our first constitution, building the army up and presiding over the appointments (incidentally POF's indigenous weapon's development was initiated by him) and incidentally enough he pegged West-Pakistan into 'One-Unit' much to the dismay of most West-Pakistanis and some of those problems created by the One Unit policy (Loss of Bhawalpur's impressive welfare system and the ever increasing Ethno-Nationalism) are still being felt today - But you won't hear a single Pakistani saying anything bad about him !
Then you had Khawaja Nazimuddin, another Bengali, who initiated the Military Crackdown during the Language Movement and, possibly, started all this mess and yet we having nothing but admiration for him for his Pre-Partition role ! Iskander Mirza, another Bengali, was the first person to introduce army involvement in politics when he initiated the first 'Martial Law' and we've been suffering from the after-effects of that precedent ever since - But damn me if you find a single Pakistani trash talking Iskander Mirza or his ethnicity ! Ask them why for the 7 out of 11 years of Democratic Rule in Pakistan till '71 with the country headed by Bengalis was 'East-Pakistan' ignored ?
And had we hated 'Bengalis' so much millions of 'Your People' would not have been allowed to come to Bangladesh and before that kept safe ! I don't deny that atrocities may have happened but I do assert that they've been blown vastly out of proportion - if 90,000 men (of whom only 40,000 were soldiers) who had to content with an increased Indian presence on 3 sides of the country, incessant harrying by the armed Mukhti Bahini, with many of the officers filling in for Civilian Administration when most of the Civil Servants had fled to West Pakistan and then deal with the Law and Order situation - can manage to butcher hundreds of thousands of Bengalis and rape countless thousands of women is fantastical at best ! Additionally there are 3-4 million Bengalis in Pakistan many of whom choose to stay behind whilst others came over the years....compare their situation to that of a million Biharis in the slums of Bangladesh and you'd know who owned up whom as their People !
Yes atrocities were committed...it was a bloody Civil-War ! But if you're going to ask for an official apology (please do) then be ready to offer one as well ! My Grandfather was posted with the MES in Dhaka and he saw what happened to the families of West-Pakistani officers and other West-Pakistani civilians well before war ! I've met Biharis in Karachi who had half of their families cut down in Bengal ! And according to them all of this happened well before 'Operation Searchlight' ! Try reading Qutubudin Aziz's 'Blood and Tears' and listen to first hand accounts of the horrifying tales of Biharis who managed to escape to Pakistan ! So please get off your high horse.....both sides severely messed up ! We, Pakistanis, have buried the hatchet...if you want to continue to harp on about how Mujib ur Rehman was a foOking saint, that there was no Argatalla Conspiracy, that the Mukhti Bahini did not engage in massive human rights abuses of their own or that the Pakistani's hated the Bengalis so so very much then be my guest but whereas this trump kind mind help the Awami League win sympathy votes in Bangladesh but any kind of rapprochement between our two countries would take yet another 40 years !
P.S We lived in Gulberg in Lahore; one of our neighbours was a Bengali Doctor who came here with his family to get his MBBS from KingEdward Medical College, Lahore - Till last year hes still living there and is cherished by our family and the community over there at large because he is an exceptionally charitable person whose treated more poor people free of charge then otherwise ! If we were the barbarians that you think that we were he wouldn't have made it till 2012 !
