Not in our country: Japanese fight relocation of US military facility

Italy is home to 113 US military installations, German is home to 56 US military installations, South Korea is home to US military installations, and Japan. Yet these 4 nations are considered major powers.

All of you are just medium size power. If Germany break free which I think Germany deserves to be, then Germany will be a great power. Italy is irrelevant in world politics. South Korea and you, Japan, are not exactly a great power. Major power? maybe but I often question why a major power would need protection.

The more anti-Japan China is, the harder China is pushing Japan into US side.
Japan is in the middle of China and US. It is a equilibrium of Power. The Lagrange position where power cancelled out.

"Influence->Colony->Province->Settlement " are one route.
"Independence->Have Influence -> Have Colonies-> Gain a new province " another route.

If Newton's Law Action = reaction is broken, one route must be chosen
If there is no China to cancel the gravity of the US, Japan orbit will be nearer and nearer to US.

Like the orbiting planets that will rejoin the sun by the force of gravity.

Only Nuclear Japan could ignite Japan another Sun that could route to 2nd path.

Japan is a mere colony of the US. As China rises, the US military will get crushed by the PLA just like the PLA kicked out the US and its allies out of North Korea during the Korean war.

US military got humiliated once by China, it's doesn't have the guts for a 2nd fight.

You know China got crushed in Korean war? Your casualities were massive and you lost strategically

I'm not going to argue about world perception of Japan, the point is that its important to see that major powers can , too, host military bases of allied nations. The United Kingdom, a great world power, even allows USAF to be present in its territory. In fact, this dates back to the Strategic Air Command (SAC). So, is it a surprise that allied nations such as Japan, SK, Germany, Italy, et al host US Forces? I don't think so, in fact, its nothing new.

Not even the US can afford to operate so many military bases all over the globe on her own, the operation costs are being shared with host countries. After all, protection doesn't come free right ?

It is not new but the fact is it is not right, especially for a great power. Have some pride and confident in your country. That is all I'm saying. India and Russia are allied, you don't see India hosting any Russia military base. I just find it demeaning to a country status and national pride to host foreign military. The US will never host other country military base.

Seems like they don't want to move the military personnel to the Futenma military site (planned). Why Nakaima's change ? I'll tell you why. Because the military base now employs some 10,000 Japanese civilians. Plus the fact that US military forces contribute to some $2 Billion to the local economy. If the base moves, and if US forces are going to be redistributed, guess what that means? People are losing jobs. Local economy suffers. If the local government votes against the Futenma base, what's going to happen? Then, the troops can't move.

Either way, no one's leaving Okinawa.

meh, we're picking up more of cost nowadays I think.
still it's not cheap.
but the bases do employ the local citizens and adds money to local economy.
