The only feasible solution to this is if Japan were to abrogate its Non Nuclear Proliferation Treaty. And become a Nuclear Armed Power outright. This could, theoretically speaking, cover Japan's security needs. However, is it politically and economically feasible ? -- that is the question. Unfortunately, objectively speaking, it is not feasible at this moment.

.
Even the US will not agree..
nuclear armed Japan is a threat to all over the world..
No body knows if a earthquake can make explosion..

no no we must. we are capitalists we are devils of the world who only bring ruin and death

that's the definition of democracy ;), but that's besides the point. The US loves foreign bases so we are happy to see how $ are well spend for keeping this definition alive "democracy the harbinger of death and destruction"

Well then, I guess we won't be proceeding with that then. And that means they (USA) will remain in Okinawa as specified by our 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty. :-)

If the United States were to leave, Japan will most likely abrogate its non-nuclear proliferation treaty and pursue nuclear armament.

Btw, nuclear 2nd strike capability can be secured by SLBMs, and we can easily convert our Soryu Class Subs to meet specific demands. Trust me, these will be far away from Japan if they are deployed.

U.S is like the sun of the solar system.
If you are too far, its cold
If you are too near, your planet heat so much that oceans become clouds.
Therefore, a smart nation adjust her orbit by observing Solar activities and speculate her trajectories

democracy smochcracy. we don't need all these military bases waste of money. people don't want us there fine. let's kick mud.
but just look at the Philippines they kick us out of one ofthe largest military bases in the world Subic Bay and 17 years later pretty much begging us to come back :hitwall:

either
a) you're a independent of foreign powers
b) under U.S sphere of influence
c) under Chinese/SCO sphere of influence

we are putting in all this money with no payback at all :taz:

our nukes are our assurance no one will mess with us :usflag:

.
Nuclear weapon not only give you power but also danger..
If Japan want to arm with nuclear weapon, Japan seems to be the first victim...
For US base in Japan, I think China is not worried about that...
It is within the range of China`s missile..

So you see necessity of the United States' presence in Japan. It prevents us from proceeding with Nuclear Armament. The latter is only natural if GI Joe is to leave us....:-)

there you have it, the Pinoys learned it the hard way and that's why your boys are back. American tax money is put into good use for keeping democracy alive:rofl:

And that is why Japan can sleep at night while North Korean / Chinese threat are lurking somewhere in the neighborhood :azn:
