I remember that when Russia Invaded the Ukraine, many of the posters here laugh and said Russian will retreat or collapse and we are in the 4th month of this war and they are still fighting, yes there would be deaths of Russian soldiers, Ukrainians and civilians but Russians are still fighting and are showing no sight of stopping. Launch a Nuclear Strike at Russians ? Putin will launch hundreds of them in return and we all will die, America/Europe and Russian land will be nuclear wasteland and the winds will carry the Radiation into other countries and world will die a slow painful death, now If Chinese go ahead with Taiwan and wins than the world will definitely become a true bi-polar world where just America will not longer be calling the shots. But if China did not and keep waiting for it than it won't help, When Russia invaded and the world was busy dealing with them, it was golden time for Chinese to make their move, I mean no country including US/Japan will risk lives of their own citizens and soldiers for Taiwan just like none of the country send any troops to Ukraine to die fighting Russians.

Again, words means nothing until a proper action is put behind it, In USA the Americans although dislike Russians but respect their daring effort to launch a offensive into Ukraine, despite their Military financial condition is worse than Chinese, and yet they go ahead and take on the world just to prove a point that we have a red line and if anyone cross it we won't listen to anyone, now Americans often enter into SCS and Chinese issue Warnings, Americans has created a strong web of Military bases and allies around China, And China let it all happen. China taking back Taiwan would be a lot easier because for Taiwan there won't be much European Military Aid, China can block it using their heavy numbers of Ships and Subs, Ukraine because of their land connection to rest of EU makes it easier for countries like UK/Germany/France to send weapons, but China is making it worse for them, if US got a leader which gets hard on China or Russia, than the consequences would be far more terrible, Trump/Biden both weak Presidents and lack nerves to take big decisions when it comes to fighting giants like China or Russia, Yes US can/will sanction China as well, but if Chinese claims are right and they are more financially independent than Russian than they will survive just like Russians, but they are missing the opportunity of their life time in not taking back what they believe its theirs, once the war in Ukraine is over i bet world will use UN to make more stricter rules about Powerful countries invading weaker ones, and all that blah blah , sanction blah blah will last for another decade or two, and in the meantime US will make more allies close to China, Strengthen India/Vietnam and other countries that can give US bases to operate from, and than China will have to fight all those countries, and even if they decide to move with Taiwan in next 50 years the situation wont be much different, take lessons from Americans and Russians, once the red line is cross powerful countries make their moves just like US did, just like Russians are doing.

It has never had a military confrontation with Western powers. I think it all depends on how the US provokes China in the future with regards to Taiwan.

Right now the Western powers have their hands full with Russia Ukraine war. If I were China I would add Taiwan to the list. It would seriously overload the Western powers. China does realise there is no going back after this.

And those Islands were thousands of KM far from their mainland, I think China is making a mistake by letting the world back in order after the War's and Pandemic, I am not pro war and not saying that China should invade Taiwan cause I know thousands of civilians will die in the result, but what I am saying if War is the only way of getting back Taiwan and Chinese think its only a matter of time than now is the right time for them. They might not get a better time for their adventure because right now the world is still recovering from a lot of things such as Pandemic, War of Ukraine (still on-going) , western countries never been that divided politically and many of the EU'rn nations are falling under the heavy influence of Neo-Nazi's who are not much into Fighting other people wars.

You are right, but China is weighing all options. Russia made the decision because it felt it had no other choice. China will eventually push for Taiwan, but only when it believes when the time is right.
