What's new

America is not powerful enough to stand up to China and Russia alone, says Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov

lol, can't imagine what a country's future will look like without good cities.

China used to say that about good communes.

Are you really saying the only way China got a future after thousands of years of civilization was to embrace Western city designs of putting people in tall buildings surrounded by streets of shops, cars, buses, and subways?

The white-man is your savior?

We have newer cities that are mostly single family housing...unfortunately we still have the older cities...with the old style way of mostly high-rise multi-families.

Here's some neighborhoods in Miami (founded 1858)...you aren't going to see housing like this in NYC (founded 1624)

Orlando..you aren't going to see housing neighborhoods like this in NYC.

Not sure why you think jamming people into high-rises like NYC is the ONLY way to go.

Who says America is standing alone?
I always found it funny when people made these comparisons about how all of them combined were more powerful than the US. The US has friends and allies too, so the comparison always ends up looking ridiculous. The fact that it takes two of them to match the US is even more humiliating for them.

On a side note, I don't think Russia is even a major threat to the US anymore. China can hold its own, they don't need Russian help.

Living in cities sucks dude.
Not good for mental health.
Absolutely agree. I absolutely hate cities.

Has China's GDP per capita reached Western standards? Not even close. You'll platuo at some point. Time will tell if you will surpass western countries or not.

You're like a runner at the beginning of a jog telling runners far ahead how easy it is for him to run.

Get to western level, then talk.
You GDP is just a number on paper, with ridiculous cost of living and numerous people living on the streets, crimes and violence lurking around every corner, you just live on borrowed time.

We always have some of the world's greatest cities through thousands of years, copying your design? when we had world most thriving cities your ancestors were still living in trees.

The problem is the Chinese have known mostly poverty and now that the Government is building shiny new tall apartment cities with buses and subways this is like eye-candy galore to them.

The same can be said about the US 100 years ago. You can see tv shows from the early 1950's about people looking out their balconies in NYC at the view and saying this is the greatest thing ever!!!

But then those same shows started moving to single-family home settings and saying that is the greatest thing ever.

In rural regions in China people also have big houses, super cheap. what I say is a healthy country must have good cities cause cities are always the prime mover of a country's economy and you just can't imagine a country without good cities but only suburbs.

Tibet poverty alleviation free houses for poor families, they are big and free, but city folks won't take them even for free

LOL. China not 'helping' Russia is reminiscent and akin to China never helping Iron Brother in any war and then making excuses like, "It's Pakistan's war. Pakistanis should fight by themselves."
In 1965, China was prepared to go to war against India on behalf of Pakistan and issued an ultimatum to your foolish country and attacked your army posts on the border, then your country backed down. In 1971, China supplied arms to Pakistan that it couldnt get from US at the time. Do you prefer China to go to war with your country when you have conflicts with Pakistan in the future ? You might as well get what you ask for from China like 1962 war.

Besides, why doesnt your India to go war with Ukraine for Russia since your country and Russia have been allies since 1960s, Russia helped you in the 1971 war against Pakistan, why dont you do the same for Russia now ? Look youself in the mirror, dont just point your fingers at others.

Many foreigners laugh that Beijing still has some "slums", 胡同 Hutong, they don't know if one can own anything at all in any of those " slums", 胡同, they are automatically multi millionaires. wealth is not decided by the size and looks of your house.

A subdivided unit at No. 121 Lanman Hutong, about 10 minutes’ drive from Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, changed hands on November 11 for 1.28 million yuan (US$182,400) after 136 rounds of furious bidding during an auction in Beijing.

The new owner bought a 5.6-square metre (72 square feet) cubicle covered in bathroom tiles large enough to fit a bunk bed, with standing room only.

Many houses are over hundreds of years old and anyone of them is worth tens of millions now

I think that is too flattering. America couldn't even solve the Iran problem after all these years.

Russia is all about nuclear weapons now - and the US cannot afford a breakdown there. A shakeup in leadership is fine but the Russian state has to remain to maintain control of those world ending monstrosities

And that statement applies to ALL nuclear powers in the world, not just Russia.

I studied , worked and skiied in US, so what, do those make me love US more than China?

Nope.

There are million plus of your comrades (brightest, educated and youngest I may add) who have ditched Chinese citizenship and settled in America

Living in US doesn't mean they love US, many Chinese PDFers here live in the west, but they loyalty is with China, besides, it was true that many Chinese settled down in the west in the past for economic reasons when China was still very poor but now almost all Chinese students choose to come back to China after they study in the west, the table had been turned. besides, Chinese immigrants are still a minority, most people moved and settled in US are still Europeans.

It is about resource efficiency, think about per capital land, energy, transportation etc.

US style suburban mostly exist in Anglo new continent where indigenous were genocide. It requires far more resource to maintain, it will be fun when US enters terminal phase.

This only just shows how reliant the Chinese population is on living in a major city in order to be successful. You simply don't understand that this is not a requirement in the US. The areas outside our cities are developed. The headquarters of some of our major companies are not even in big cities.

Many people rarely set foot in major cities and make 100's of thousands a year.

But for China if you don't have access to the benefits of a major city you are a nobody.
