In karnataks govt banned cheap liquors called saraai ..it had huge circulation ...in absence of cheap liquor now you rarely see drunken people lieng on road ...if public health is the reason behind the ban then good or if religion plays its role then bad ...i think its religiously motivated decision ...otherwise knowing kerala atmosphere banning liquor will be last thing people want

The real issue was about renewing licenses for 418 liquor bars closed since april 2014 for not meeting the minimum quality standards. Ooman chandy wanted at least 300 odd of them to be given the license and claimed they met the quality standard.

It was congress leader VM Sudheeran who saw an political opportunity and an opportunity to wrestle out some settlement cash from the bar owners and some political favours from the Govt. who raised the stakes as a negotiating tactics and started canvassing for a ban taking help from the Muslim and Christian organisations and has asked for a complete ban in the next 10 years He is now targeting the 700 odd liquor bars associated with hotels to make some money by blackmailing the association. Its is standard kerala political money-power play.

In the end, all the key political players will get their cut and it will be business back to normal.

Its classic kerala politics.

Look at the events of past few days -

They fought for pork being served at a function of a school. There was fish for Muslims but they were not content with that and had issue how dare others have pork in their presence

The Vande matram dance was being performed by a group but as usual Islamists got it banished even though they were not the ones singing or performing on it.

Then the advertisement for Muslim/Christians only Jobs!!

Now Islamists got the liquor banished in the state. Lots of people travel to Kerala for vacation and now instead of scotch/beer/whiskey they will only be served coconut water. Cool isn't it?

What's next? Sharia law in Kerala!! Rename God's own country to Allah's own country?? Good luck Keralites, you are going to witness more of such things in the days to come!! These very appeasement tactics of Congress turned the whole nation against them and I am glad they are doing the same in Kerala!! It's about time for Kerala to kick congress out!!

No you are wrong!! Such bans never works and trust me alcohol will be as freely available in Malabar as it was before!!

Sahi baat hai,rather than banning the thing why not propagate why is it bad for you,this will lead to black marketing & many unnecessary deaths

Is this the best you can come up with after the famous Muslim appeasement theory?

There is a reason why Congress got such a bashing in the country. They have such things in their DNA so why do you think i am wrong if I asume they are upto the same nonsense that they were doing all over India.

I am infact game for the real secularism in the country like equality to all irrespective of caste/religion/color but this is something that parties like Congress are totally against. They created policies while in rule to appease minorities, gave them special rights and once they did that it divided the whole country and now majority is asking for their rights. Do you think they are wrong?
