Whenever we believe in an idea, inevitably there will be contrasting ideas. YOU believe that it is appropriate for the Chinese government to control religions in China base upon A, B, and C reasons. I believe that YOU are wrong as evident by the religious peace we have in the US and Europe.

The issue is not about religious conflicts as the Chinese government falsely portray as a potentiality. The issue is that the Chinese government is terrified of competing in the arena of ideas where the odds of winning is not favorable. If the idea that the ( false ) communists of China is so great as a moral authority, then stop getting involve into petty issues like reincarnation and let the people decide.

So it is not about why it is not 'OK' with me but why is it not 'OK' with the Chinese government. And we know it is not about sectarian conflicts.

Yeah but while cautioning the pitfalls of a personality cult, the article also explains why Xi is projecting his personality over the state; to overcome internal vested interests in the party and push through difficult reforms. And why China won't be able to go back to Mao days of personality cult even if the party wants. Young educated Chinese who have seen the world just don't believe in it.

We have to wait and see whether Xi wields it for the better of the country or for self-preservation, even though I agree with you it's potentially dangerous to lionize a person in the first place.

This is why China has been a strictly secular state since ancient times.
No offense bro but All other great empires such as The Roman Empire, the Ottoman Turkey, the Mongol Empire, the British Empire, the Persian Empire, the Arab Empire.....have been eliminated from existence or severely and severely weakened. Although China has also been weakened as well, China has the potential to dominate the world,coz China was and is always a secular state for thousands of years. Reality doe snot exist... neither a real book... But what come to near "real" are not the books made by the "original" ppl... but by those outsiders who got in... That's why historian always hope to find a scripture of an enemy or an ally or a travelers of that "researched entity"... to understand with contradictory views the essence of it...

the most simple exemple is how you speak about your parents and their history..; you say what they told you about themselfs... so you will see the good and bad in it... but that's it..; you will see nothing more... but when you speak with your grandparents uncles,aunt etc... who happened to be near them... they will relate another story... and in that story you will have another "view" of them... another point of view of their "reality"...
