As all of us knows that jf 17 was never mid-high end fighter and recent improvement in block 2 shows that this project is way of track and is even struggling with integration of basic 4th generation capabilities i.e bvr. block 2 is not going to change any thing drastic from block 1 as was anticipated. hell even it wont have refueling probe till mid 2016. jf 17 is good to replace old f 7 and mirages but we do need a modern 4.5+++ jet in our inventory to sustain our qualitative edge. other wise we are just training our pilots on 80s tech

we r not that poor that we cant afford 4.5++. if we can afford atomic bombs we can afford them too

Different type and situation. The bomb is meant as a deterrent, not as a first option. It also take years to build just a few bombs, so the costs are actually relatively small, and just seem larger because the costs are added up long term, instead of short term.

The defense budget is what decides Pakistan's military capability. Pakistan is already spending way to much on defense, and the recent increase was not only temporary (to buy new helis from Russia), but also a desperate move that Pakistani officials no doubt had to think long and hard about. Buying a new fighter is out of the picture, as of now; A 4.5 gen fighter can cost upwards of $100 million dollars, and maintaining them adds another dimension. It's just to unrealistic to think of buying a new fighter jet.

I have for a while believed that Pakistan's next big fighter purchase will be a 5th gen, and that opinion was validated by A.C Khalid Mehmood. He said Pakistan's focus shouldn't be on another 4th gen platform, because that would be redundant in Pakistan's air defense capabilities, and instead should be focused on a 5th gen fighter for the future.

No J-10B for PAF | A.C Khalid, calls for a focus on 5th generation platform instead.

so if we cant afford 4.5+ gen how come we will able to afford 5 gen.and who will sell us these 5 th gen jets.if answer is china then its gona take lot of time before they can resolve engine issue and get over some technical issue in mean time we r vulnerable and will we be able to handle the 5th gen tech without knowledge of 4.5 gen tech.

There are many threads out there which deal with the points you raised, may i suggest you go through them before opening new threads.

JF-17 is just fine...no need to act like Juliet. Everything is not revealed yet.

The current policy of inducting JFTs and F-16s is the right thing to do considering our financial situation. In future we should directly opt for a stealth platform like J-31....forget about the J-10's etc.

Besides this priority should be given to UCAV's, precision munitions and avionics(ECM warfare etc.)

The answer is long term. What you're suggesting is that there is an urgent need for a newer fighter, but I disagree. PAF is going to look for long term solution, and no one expects PAF to get the fighter within a few years. The timeline (what i believe is the case) extends to the year 2020-25. This timeline is important, because this is around the time when India is expected to induct it's own 5th gen fighter jets. The day the Indians induct a 5th gen is when PAF will decide on their 5th gen aspirations. Who knows? Maybe PAF won't go for a Chinese 5th gen, maybe another option will open itself up, after all 5-10 years, anything can happen.

Anyways, my point is that PAF only needs to concentrate on the JF-17, for now, but for long term (as in 5-10 years from now) it needs to look at the next great leap.

Vulnerable from whom if I may ask?

Jf-17 is fine fighter which PAF afford easily to maintain why go for 4.5++ fighter which have cost &maintenance issues , jf-17 fits in PAF policy as Defencesive Force

I think all the points raised have been discussed to death. No need of new thread. Better go through jf-17 thread.

we've f16s. plus we arent fighting india. So why waste money on expensive fighters when money is needed to improve economy?
