Sanders beliefs on free health care, free education and taxing the super rich to pay for all of those goes against the establishment's capitalist narrative which is why a lot of college/university students are his supporters. On top of that he's currently fighting the Democratic-Establishment in the US as well. I think you're not aware on Bernie's past because he's as anti-establishment as you could get.
