If anyone said that, then it's equally deplorable. I absolutely hate it when people toss out secession as the solution for trivial issues.

Oh people have been holding up the condition of secularism as a requisite for the country to be united forever. This is not a new thing.

Nobel laureates ha tell me how many Nobel laureates are from Bengal vs rest of India and by that I mean in the field of science (physics, chemistry or medicine) not for stuff like literature, peace etc
There are two Indian noble laureates from Bengal......and I don't think the field of science is the only important/worthy field.....
Anyway, Since you insist that the field of science is the only important field....here(below) are the lists of famous people from that field only, comparing your state and mine....
Maharashtra although family origins from Allahabad
Bengal:-
From the field of Science only:-
1.Radhanath Sikdar
2.Satyendra Nath Bose
3.Jagadish Chandra Bose
4.Upendranath Brahmachari
5.P.C. Mahalanobis
6.Amal Kumar Raychaudhuri
7.Ashoke Sen, physics
8.Somnath Bharadwaj, cosmology
9.Manilal Bhaumik
10.Subhash Mukhopadhyay, Physician
11.Sisir Kumar Mitra
12.Ashesh Prosad Mitra
13.Amartya Sen Nobel Laureate, economist, Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, 1998
14.Ram Brahma Sanyal, Zoology
15.Bikash Sinha, nuclear physics
16.Prafulla Chandra Ray, noted chemists and founder of Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, India's first pharmaceutical company.
17.Meghnad Saha noted for Saha ionization equation

Maharashtra:-
From the field of science only:-
1.Vijay Bhatkar
2.Anil Kakodkar
3.Madhav Gadgil
4.Raghunath Anant Mashelkar
5.Jayant Narlikar
6.Shekhar C. Mande
7.Chandrashekhar Khare
List of people from Maharashtra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even if we include Allahbad with Maharashtra, the list won't be as long as that of Bangal's..............
Considering that the lists are composed of people from the field of science only, if we include other fields then one can easily imagine what will happen.....

I agree with the view that in a truly secular state, there actually should not be any privileged class first of all. But this is pure theory and in a country like India, application of such theory on practical level is not possible as of now. India was never a secular nor a liberal one ever in its modern history. Religion and caste based politics is nothing new and over all North and South India has been fallen under its grip.

Tell me,what actually Bengali Intelligentsia (not sure what it implies as of today) can do or should have done instead of what they are doing now? Rise of Islamic fundamentalism is a global problem and the way the blame has been thumped upon Bengal is beyond my understanding. Religion based politics was never attracted the minds of political manifesto writers for several reasons and to be honest due to this apparent "indifference" Bengal have survived some worst riots before which did bleed Northern India to a fatal stage periodically. This situation has been proved to be in conformity with Newton's third law of motion here.
The problem and its gravity (Rise of Islamic fundamentalism) is undeniable and even the educated Muslim class, even a group of clerics as well as the general Bengali mass acknowledge this fact. But the way, a national problem and it's solution as become "Bengal" specific is not a matter of justifiable course of arguments.People are rampantly blaming Bengalis for criticizing their favorite candidates, segregating (often hilariously) them from rest of India. But don't you think this is a moral dishonesty to shy away from a crime committed with meticulous planning? Mayukh Chatterjee is a Bengali by coincidence but don't you think the way his doctoral research has faced criticism is another threat to a grand scale if not equal to the rise of Islamic fundamentalism?

I have stopped taking them seriously. Especially when most of their arguments don't survive more than two counter arguments.

Baba ami o to adhek bangali.

We are not referring to a Bengal specific solution or loading on to the denizens of the state the responsibility to be the sole combatants against fundamentalism. I am referring to how hollow the discourse on this matter has become in our state, that was the original point. We have turned a blind eye to the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in our OWN state, of course that doesn't mean that we will have to tackle it alone, we are Indians after all. I was just referring to intellectual honesty required when it comes to combating extremism whether it arises from one community or another.

Scorpi, we can't say that this is India and so trying to inculcate a truly secular character in politics will not work. At that rate this is also India where one can find open defecation, notions such as "she's lose so she deserved to be raped", statements asserting that an absence of the LEAs for a few minutes would be enough for one community to massacre another, widespread corruption, antipathy towards one's fellow citizens, prevalent discrimination against our fellow citizens from NE India and a cart load of other diseases. A nation which remains a monolith and cannot embrace the changing times dies, so will we if we keep saying that its not possible here. There was a time when getting us to stop the practice of sati wasn't exactly considered possible either, hell the "mighty British" who had conquered the world themselves thought of it as a lost cause.

Page number, post number? Let's read the posts again.

Check again, I was talking about respecting the diversity of India and not to impose a segment of its populations' will on all others, otherwise India will fall apart, and there was elaborate discussion on the plurality of India that you are so desperately trying to destroy, it was not only about beef eating, beef eating issue is just a manifestation of the intolerant mindset. And here people like you want Bengal to cede from India, just because Bengalis are not supporting your agenda, as I said earlier, people like you are the biggest threat to India.

And where it was written or suggesting that "unless Bengal is allowed to eat beef they will demand another partition from India"? Comprehension fail or deliberate lying?

I support you Dray, because going by the logic of some mind midgets here my half christian hubby(beef eater :D) and me (pure vegetarian)would have to live in 2 different countries.Lol

It is more than 100 pages now, I entered the thread from post no. 26 in the 2nd page and never left after that, almost all the Bengalis like scorpionx, austerlitz, were also against the blanket demand of banning it all over India, and engaged in a prolonged debate, that ticked off the Hindutwavadis and now they want Bengal to be out of India. :yay: Check that thread from the beginning, it has both tons of information and fierce & mindless argument inside. I am again going in that thread tomorrow. :D
