creating your own os is easy, creating a ecosystem is stupidly hard and not worth the effort. failure of windows mobile is supportive of this. even though its a bloody solid osI'm in iOS user so this phone has no appeal for me. In the end, it's still an Android phone and will appeal to those who currently use it. If Huawei, or any Chinese phone company, for that matter, really want to take on iOS, it should create its own OS on its own hardware.
I've got an S9+, once you get to the high end phones, there is really not much to ask for and the differences are minor between 900$ territory phones. I've seen that the P-20's photos look really processed compared to the Pixel 2XL, S9+ and iPhone X though. 40 MP allow you to capture a lot of detail but in return shutter speed is slow, this is why in default the resolution in the P-20 Pro is set to 10 MP.
DSLR is to heavy and bulky. User want a jack of all trade.40MP on a 5x Optical zoom is basically wasted. It allow you to capture a long shot with extremely high detail, however, in a close up, you will smudge the pixel as it trying to expand to fit the 5x optical zoom. That is the reason why even top end DSLR, at most you get 30 MP and that goes a long way with with 650mm telescopic lens.
Consider most phone-photo uses today is close up (Selfie and Normal Portrait) I would say P20 having 40MP camera is overkill, because if I really into photography, I would probably buy a decent DSLR for it, and having to pay more than a S9+ for P20 Pro just because it can take better picture is simply not worth it.
5x Hybrid zoom, Hybrid means quality lost is minimal, it has a 3x optical zoom, optical zoom is lossless.5x optical zoom
I don't know, there's something to it in having everything you want in a phone that could fit in your pocket, on high end phones the picture quality is way beyond acceptable and it is reaching DSLR territory.Consider most phone-photo uses today is close up (Selfie and Normal Portrait) I would say P20 having 40MP camera is overkill, because if I really into photography, I would probably buy a decent DSLR for it, and having to pay more than a S9+ for P20 Pro just because it can take better picture is simply not worth it.

Here is an example, I took this shot right now from my phone, I personally can't differentiate this from a picture taken by a DSLR, maybe only if I had the two pictures side by side and I inspected both of them closely.
It's also easier to upload, this picture was uploaded automatically to the Google Cloud and I downloaded it here over the PC, and sent this image. With a DSLR you would have to take the picture, get the SD card out, find an adapter if you don't have it, and transfer it to your computer, and repeat the same thing with every device you want it transferred to.

Theres more to high megapixel sensors than zoom, in this case the sensor had quad bayer structure that bins 4 pixel as output. Making it 10MP in most cicumstances. The benefit is effective increase in pixel size and much higher dynamic range by varying exposure within each binned arrayYou cannot take the maximum advantage of the 40 MP canvas size if you are only allow 5x optical zoom

Really? I guess I missed out on DSLRs lately, I only got one from 2011Plus most DSLR today have wifi-connection you don't need to take out anything.
Yeah, you're probably right, but my phone satisfies me way more than a good DSLR will, way less of a bulky process, you can instantly upload everything to the social media. That is because you are taking a long shot. If you try to use a phone to shoot a Car or a Woman close up, you will see the different.
Sure, good night. Or it's morning now over thereIt's very hard to talk to you about it, I may try to take a comparison picture and using my phones and DSLR tomorrow (because it is nigh here I cannot demonstrate the different at night...)
Photography is a very personalized subject. The Huawei P20 Pro is rated 10 points higher than the Galaxy S9 Plus according to DxOMark. The Galaxy S9 Plus was unveiled on February 25 2018, about a month ago.

DxOMark is the trusted industry standard for camera and lens image quality measurements. DxOMark engineers capture and evaluate over 1500 test images and more than 2 hours of video both in controlled lab environments and in natural indoor and outdoor scenes for their smartphone camera testing.
Conclusion: Game changer. Huawei has skipped one or two generations. All according to DxOMark.

Everyone is going to buy a phone anyway. Why wouldn't you want the phone with the best camera?
