How does PDF turks feel abt their country joining the EU?

Turkey seems to still want to join the EU. EU is their biggest trading partner and source of FDI. But powers such as UK is trying to come out of EU. Greece also contemplated coming out. The reason given by pro-Brexit campainers is that EU has too much control over UK 's internal affairs , that Uk can not formulate immigration and labor laws to their liking etc etc. Also UK doesn't want to accept the Euro which they must by 2020 if i am not wrong. Now what would be the repercussions of a possible turkish accession into EU by 2030? Now France and germany doesn't want turkey fearing its majority muslim population and vast border with muslim ME. But won't a hypothetical scenario of turkey in EU make turkey subservient to Brussels bureaucracy? Yes their will be free movement of people , goods and services. Turks will have greater affordable access to EU universities and have a vast market to sell their goods. But they can't formulate laws in conflict with EU laws. They most likely have to follow a EU lead foreign policy and have to deal with an increasingly islamophobic EU populace. Now turkey aspires to be a great power in the region (ME , balkans and C.asia and Mediterranean region). In short it aspires to be a transcontinental great power . But can it realize its aspirations in EU? How does turks feel abt joining EU? Are they still as enthusiastic abt EU as they were in the past? How does Turkish political elites , AKP , CHP , MHP really feel abt EU ? DO they really want to join if given a chance?

If Turkey does then do it like the UK. in the early 2000's Turkey wanted in on EU but it was denied. but EU is not stable currently and Turkey has thrived outside EU.

Well the problem is UK being a great power is finding it hard to do a special deal with EU even when its part of EU and part and parcel of European socio-political landscape unlike turkey. Turkish chance of having some sort of special deal is very difficult. But Turkey is a important country in the region and a big economy. EU needs turkey but doesn't want it in EU. SO they should give some sort of fair deal to turkey.

I think Turkey is doing great without them especially under the current govt (looking at the economic indicators). EU has a lot of sick economies so Turkey should do special agreement if it wants to join EU.

I don't think Turkey's desire to be a member, is about economics or whatever but influence and expansion. The same reason can be said about EU's refusal. I mean, I at least see it that way as an individual or I don't care "personally" lol

Do not also confuse UK's situation in EU with Turkey. I haven't voted, I'll keep it for myself

Turkish chance of having some sort of special deal is very difficult. But Turkey is a important country in the region and a big economy. EU needs turkey but doesn't want it in EU. SO they should give some sort of fair deal to turkey.

If I remember the reasons why EU citizenship was refused was due to things like migration will happen from Turkey! and the borders of EU will touch Iraq(Iraq has just been invaded @ the time) Economically Turkey was not like it is today among other reasons why it was refused as well. But it was a blessing for Turkey they have done tremendously well and now EU wants Turkey and willing to make it a partner and so on forth.

EU still fear the muslim pop. of turkey and the ME border. Turkish demography is also expanding while EU pop. is falling. Add to that the imaginary fear of muslim take over of Europe as propagated by right wing and neo-con parties in Europe. They are really scared of turkey.

Btw u r a british citizen i assume. What do u feel abt UK exiting EU? How does UK muslim pop. generally feel abt the issue?

Yes i am a UK citizen, The vote for EU is June and I am not voting when Dodgy Dave came to power some 7/8 years ago his arteries veins and capillaries carried anti-EU blood now that same Gov is pro EU? So i am not voting. been lied too

Turkey's membership, of course, will enchance it's influence in any way. Beside, I said "it isn't about economy" but still Turkey's membership would speed it's already growing economy. I can't generalize and speak on behalf of my friends or the country on EU, let's wait for their response.

This way we have leverage over EU in some matters and we can decide which arrangements we want to follow. Thankfully we are not in the EU and our economy, industry, both military and commerce is thriving. So,despite the chest thumping ,Turkey will not be admitted to the EU,not because someone it's afraid but because it's a poor country.Why would they want an 80 million country in the EU ,second in poorness only to Bulgaria? Bare in mind that Turkey was in the Western camp after WW2 unlike countries like Romania ruled by North Koreean like regimes until 1990 and yet it's at the same economical level.Stilll,they are proud of them.....Europe disagrees,obviously for good reasons.Oh,they also didn't fought in WW2.

Plus,they're on the brink of a civil war and a serious Syrian/Iraki spillover.

Anybody knows that Westerners think admitting Romania was a mistake and the truth is that if Turkey gets admitted in 2020-2022 it will be an 80 million country with a GDP per capita lower than Romania.They (Western Euros) just won't go there.
