Locals staged a demonstration in front of the temple protesting the incident

Unknown miscreants vandalized and looted a Hindu temple before desecrating an idol of a goddess in Rangamati district town on Tuesday night.

The incident took place at Sree Sree Mogdeswari temple and it came to light on Wednesday morning, when a member of the temple committee went there to clean it, said Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali police station.

He said the gold ornaments on the idol and money from the donation box of the temple were looted.

On information, police visited the spot.

Police suspected that miscreants entered the temple sometime at night and looted valuables after vandalising the idol.

Condemning the incident, President of Rangamati Puja Udjapon Parishad Badal Kanti Dey demanded exemplary punishment of those involved in the incident.

Local people also staged a demonstration in front of the temple protesting the incident, which is a first of its kind in the district.

Very sad to see. There is no justification for this. As it is South Asia, home of the most bigoted people on earth, I can only hope that the culprits are brought to justice.

Why do people feel the need to provide justifications or engage in whatsboutism when it comes to religious bigotry and violence? Why can't we just say what's wrong is wrong, and move on? Talking about the turn this thread is taking.

This is a case of robbery and looting not religious hate crime. There were none in the mandir so unidentified people went inside and looted gold and cash. In this process the idols were demolished.

So please keep name of Bangladesh and Islam stay out of this. We as a nation are not intolerant and bigot like Indian sanghis.
