Geopolitics of ASEAN+ region

This was just backing up the point I made about Japanese using real and even imaginary racial and genetic ties when it suits their geopolitical strategy.

Yes, that is one common complaint from other East Asian countries as those reports say in the first paragraphs, but deeper investigations show that Japan did transfer lots of technology.

While both South Korea and China kick up lots of fuss over IJA actions before 1945, they hardly mention that South Korea received around as much aid in two decades as the whole of Africa. Most of these direct aid came from USA, and Japan.

The above says Hyundai and Kia motors which imported technology from Japan had higher technology levels than Daewoo Motors which imported technology from General Motors.

Result:

After 1997 financial crisis, Hyundai and Kia survived due to their 'superior technology' but Daewoo Motors went bankrupt because it had not technology of its own.

Every geopolitical actor uses whatever slogan they need to use in order to gather 'allies' or 'subordinates'. For the Americans, it's the slogan of Human Rights, Democracy etc. For Japan, it was an "Greater East Asian Co prosperity Sphere" (and further fuelled by 'blood ties', real or imaginary).

Just for your information, though, Malacca and Moluccas are different.






Malacca straits is just "next door" to us, at the mouth of Andaman, next to Singapore, straddled by Malaysia and Indonesia.

However, Japan would not transfer technologies to Vietnam to produce our own high-speed rail.

They had a bad experience with the Chinese on high speed rail ToT. The IP theft claims have been going on for years.

The article that you provided is too general (machine tools industry, electronics, automotive and many other industries) as it even failed to mention which specific technologies Japan transferred? Transfering the assembly technologies is not tech transfer my friend. Just one article to refute all the complaints from so many Asian businesses from East to South East Asia is not going to make the case. Look up on the Proton case, Japan never transfered the engine manufacturing tech to Malaysia at all.

Since you mention machine tool, Viet Nam is not allowed to import certain machine tools from Japan, let alone technology transfer to produce the tool. You will be in for an unpleasant surprise if you believe in what the author of that article says.

As you have said, Korea has received engine technology from Japan.

Shanghai N Precision Tool Corporation (N tooling Shanghai)was established in 1992 with
capital of 300 million yen, with 30 per cent provided by China partners and 70 per cent provided
by N tooling Japan. The initial purpose of N tooling Shanghai was to act as a production base for
export to Japan. N tooling Shanghai produces various kinds of machining tools and cutting tools.
The product range is the same as that of N tooling Japan.
N tooling Shanghai increased its capitol to 60 million yen in 1996, 100 million yen in 1998, and
200 million yen in 2000 and has reached capitol of 850 million yen. In 2004, N tooling Shanghai was
reorganized as a joint-stock company. The shareholders are 75 per cent N tooling Japan, 5 per
cent Chairman of N tooling Japan, and three Chinese shareholders hold the remaining 20 per cent
(18%, 1%, and 1%). The shareholders of the Chinese side are all the representatives of the village
where N tooling Shanghai is located. The company reorganization reached five shareholders,
which is the maximum legal number of shareholders in China.

KHI will invest in Estaleiro Enseada do Paraguaçu S.A. (EEP), located in Bahia State, Brazil, as a 30% shareholder and transfer its technology to EEP. EEP is a joint venture company founded by Brazilian first class general contractors, Odebrecht, OAS and UTC (Brazilian Partners) for construction and integration of offshore units, such as platforms, support vessels and drilling units, to which KHI will transfer its technology for the construction of the shipyard and drill ships.

In Brazil, a considerable amount of offshore oil reserves were found in the ultra-deep layer, leading to a spike in demand for various ships, including drill ships & FPSO for the drilling and production. EEP is quite active in the marketing in this sector, obtaining a letter of intent from Sete Brazil (Investment company of Brazil in Oil & Gas industry) for the construction of 6 drill ships to be chartered by Petrobras, a state-owned oil company in Brazil.

KHI has a track record of successful technology transfers to two joint venture shipyards in China, Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) and Dalian COSCO Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DACOS). These past successes have led the Brazilian Partners to recognize KHI as a right technical partner for this project.

EEP will be the third overseas shipyard for KHI following NACKS and DACOS. KHI will be actively involved in the construction of various ships at EEP, with an eye to assisting in the growth of the company and increasing its profitability.

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) recently launched its Integrated University Program, which entails a donation of $3 million worth of robotics and metrology laboratory equipment to the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU).


The $3 million laboratory donation focuses on robotics (multi axis robots, precision stages, servo motor control and vision systems) and metrology (interferometry, microscopy and measurement).

The program also includes scholarship and research grants and yearly on the job trainings based on the different universities&#8217; schedules. Grant and scholarships focus on academic disciplines in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical and industrial), the science (chemistry, physics, materials and computer sciences) and statistics. Scholars will be trained to work with state of the art robotics, metrology and design resources at Hitachi &#8217;s Laguna plant. Faculty research grants will fund the study of subjects concerning the environment, including hazardous waste treatment, power efficiency and water utilization.

Hitachi GST facility in Laguna is now centered on the production of sliders, a tiny flying wing that supports the read/write head above the surface of the disk. Continued advancement in slider technology will allow hard drive suppliers to continue improving in areas of power consumption, shock tolerance and overall storage capacity.




Military technology can not be transferred so long as their arms export ban is in effect. They must lift the weapons export ban.

This is a modular design, for which large sections of the reactor building can be assembled in a factory, complete with wiring and components, before being shipped to site and lifted into place. Hitachi wants to "transfer" this technology and establish a module factory in the UK. The company promised "significant investment in training engineers, construction teams and operating staff for the plants." It is to work with local colleges and universities to develop training programs, which will "create a strong and permanent base of nuclear skills in the UK that also have a global demand."

2. A bit off topic. The Moluccas are officially and locally called Malauku,the Indonesian provinces of Malauku and N Malaku which are rich in spices. When the Arabs began arriving and settling in this region, they were commonly called the Moors. The flourishing capital of the Sultanate of Arakan was named MarakU as a nostalgic remembrance to the Arab-Moor ancestry. Same seems to be the case here.

India should speed up its connectivity program with ASEAN countries... this will be very useful for NE.

In fact ASEAN countries are the real neighbors of India. More than some of our physical neighbors.

We share much more with them culturally. The ties are getting better all the time.

As for the losers here, they don't really matter. Their only salvation lies in good ties with India.

They are just too insignificant for the rest of the world to give a damn about. And that is something that is never going to change.
