What's new

From France with love : French Air Force carried out "massive" airstrikes against ISIS in Raqqah

As long as ISIL has support from the local population(s) on the ground, their numbers will never run out.

It's good to hit their command and control (and other infrastructure) though so they are less effective. But that's only a temporary solution, it seems things will only get worse in the foreseeable future, regardless of anyone's policy or intervention, or lack of it.

Instability breeds violence, it will take several generations before this extremism will start to reduce.
Exactly there is no hierarchy order in ISIS.
going after the so called leaders is futile!!

True, I mean the news is full of "terrorist leader has been killed!"... but they are replaced by another one instantly.

As long as they have support from the local populations, nothing much can be done.
In my opinion....the west should persuade all imams and other Islamic leaders to issue a fatwa against ISIS...and denounce who ever joins the ISIS is not a muslim!! But I doubt it will happen...!

Come on Mahmoud! Not you too?
Check Opération Barkhane which I wouldn't be surprised Egypt is secretly part of, my man.

Lights off, Tay.
i did not mean anything by that you have my total support and i feel sorry for the poor people who lost their lives i am just saying that we all need to be stronger with all extremest groups there can be no negotiations or reason with them el qaeda gabhat el nusra the muslim brotherhood are all the same

This is the nightmare scenario we are trying to deal with!
Really, and who is providing arms, money, shelter to them? GCC. If the world leans hard on your @sses, ISIS, al quaida, all, will disappear over night and peace will reign again...France was attacked when she became friend with the GCC monarchies and start differentiating terrorists between the good one (Syria) that she armed, and the bad one (Mali) that she fought....

Agreed, these airstrikes are just for show. I fail to see what these Airstrikes will achieve if we compare them to NATO's Airstrikes. To cause a serious dent to ISIS, Turkish-ISIS border needs to be cleared out to choke their supply lines and ground troops landed.

Rafales did well in Libya. But ISIS is no Gaddafi. Time will tell how this one goes.

As a matter of fact ISIS/ISIL is mostly sadam and gadafis followers who have no other place to return now after their governments were toppled.

So it has been decided. The next week our AC will go to the Gulf,it will carry 18 Rafale (last time it was 12) + 8 SEM + 2 Hawkeye + 3 helicopters.
The Rafale M will carry AASM bombs, but also SCALP missiles.
It will be escorted by 10 ships, including the air defence frigate Chevalier Paul, the anti submarine frigate La Motte Piquet, the frigate Aquitaine (then replaced by the Provence),the tanker Marne, and a nuclear attack submarine. Other navies will join the protection of the CDG such as the Belgian navy frigate Léopold 1er,the British navy's HMS Defender (then replaced by the HMS ST-Albans)(@mike2000 is back ) and an Australian frigate.

No because the public cannot tolerate a single casualty on the ground.

- ISIS conducts terrorism against a country (In example France charlie hebdo)
- France bombs ISIS positions, not making a significant change over ISIS's strength.
- France doesn't want to conduct a ground operation fearing public reaction against casualties.
- ISIS conducts terrorism again in France (Paris attacks)
- France bombs ISIS positions, not making a significant change over ISIS's strength.
- France doesn't want to conduct a ground operation fearing public reaction against casualties.

ISIS will again conduct terrorism in France or in another Western country in the future. Yeah, you feared a ground operation because of casualties but by not doing a ground operation and annihilating ISIS, you are giving casualties to their terrorism indirectly....

Vicious cycle.

Politics at its finest. You're telling me that France all of a sudden has targets to hit in Al Raqqa?

Did they get this information over the past 24 hours or have been sitting on it for a while?
I was thinking the same! That was way quick or is this a revenge kill? Or was it planned properly to minimize collateral damage coz relatives of collateral damage is what ends up as recruit and harms others
