FORMER SS soldier Yaroslav Hunka, whose standing ovation in the Canadian parliament this week scandalised the world, was given refuge in Britain after World War II, the Morning Star can reveal.

Despite having served in the Galician division of the Waffen-SS, a unit associated with massacres of Jews, Poles and other civilians during the war, Mr Hunka was allowed to settle in Britain.

He emigrated to Canada in 1954 and was presented to that country’s House of Commons as a hero this week, receiving an enthusiastic reception from, among others, visiting Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Commons Speaker Anthony Rota was forced to resign amid a firestorm of global protest once Mr Hunka’s Nazi-aligned past had been revealed. The Polish government has pledged to seek his extradition.

During his time in this country, Mr Hunka worked as an aircraft fitter, lived in Northamptonshire and was an active member of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB).

He was one of many Ukrainian Waffen-SS veterans allowed to live in Britain after the war. Whitehall decided to regard them as “stateless,” meaning that they could not be returned to face justice in the countries in which their atrocities had been committed.

There were so many anti-Soviet Ukrainian ex-soldiers living in Britain that a separate organisation, the Association of Ukrainian Former Combatants in Great Britain (AUFC), was formed in London on July 30 1949.

At its peak, the AUFC had 5,800 members, of which an estimated 84 per cent had served in the Waffen-SS Galicia division. The AUFC no longer appears to function.

Responding to the Star’s investigation, a spokeswoman for the AUGB stressed that Mr Hunka and those like him “were allowed by the British government to come to Britain. He was allowed in legally.

“People use the word ‘nazi’,” she added, asking: “What is behind that? At that time, people in western Ukraine were against the communist regime.” (WTF 😂)

When asked about the Galicia division’s record of slaughter of civilians, the spokeswoman responded: “It doesn’t mean that they all did that.” (LMAO)

Other Ukrainian Nazi fighters may still be at large in Britain.

Last year, the Manchester Evening News interviewed a 98-year-old Ukrainian named Iwan Kluka, who boasted of having “fought against Stalin’s Red Army.”

The newspaper deleted the article online after outraged readers pointed out that Mr Kluka had clearly fought alongside the Nazi invaders from Germany.

Can't wait for peoples reaction on here when you find out how the States got to be the first country to have a man walk on the moon. *SPOILER ALERT* some of the NASA scientists also adorned SS uniforms once upon a time. Same for Ussr used nazi scientist for its programs too.

What's even funnier is that this guy was part of SS veteran associations in Canada.

How did they not catch this 😂

And Nazi Germany doesn't mean that all did that, but 70 years later, the whole West is using the word "Nazis" and "Hitler" to talk bad about anyone they don't like.

The cope behind this is crazy. A lot of people are saying these guys joined the SS to "fight for Ukrainian independence"

Apparently this SS veteran also compared Ukrainians to the Israelites LOL

They were fighting for an independent Ukraine, yes. But that doesn't mean they weren't nationalists and pro-Nazi :P And they didn't commit atrocities. Of course they did,the east Slavs were notorious at that.

The S S W a f f e n Division 14 was fully not conscripting by force, it was 100% volunteered department. Also if you want to see what these teenagers did in WW2, you are very welcome to Belarus to have a look at over 600 villages which have been totally eradicated by the S S D i v i s i o n s in WW2, mostly women and children

I mean why Canada allowed him and others like him SS members to live luxury life?.... No wonder only less then one percent of ss was convicted

Unbelievable…

SS Division Galicia was involved in at least 5 different massacres according to this:

A number of its officers - mostly Germans, had a history of atrocities before the division was formed.

And those gloating, might want to look into 13th SS-Division Handschar, mostly comprised of Muslims. After the war, many surviving members fought against Israel.
Muslims obviously have no problem employing Nazis when they are useful
which should not be forgotten by those making fun of the US employing Werner von Braun and Russians employing other German scientists.

First of all, it is a common practice for countries to intern all Germany Prisoner, waffen SS included, and allow them to either settle in the where they held prisoner after the war or repatriated, countries do that with every war, and that's not just the west, North Korea have offered all UN POW to either return to the South or Stay in the North, 22 UN Soldier stayed in the North. As long as that country believe these POW atoned for their sin, that's considered the debt paid. Not all SS soldier committed atrocity, that's why not the entire SS corps was sentenced to death automatically after the war.

Second of all, in war like Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine don't have the luxury to choose who they align to, just like Japan invasion of China, Republican don't have much of a choice but to join force with the Communist to repel Japanese first.

And finally, there are also ex-SS living in Soviet Union and later Russia after that, I wonder why no newspaper report that

we in the Spec Op community worshipped the guy. Probably was the only person on earth to have received Iron Cross 2nd Class and Legion of Merit as well.

Not just Handschar,but also

and the

which was completely worthless as a fighting formation and was only good at looting, abusing civilians and deserting.

So the saying “ the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ takes on a whole new meaning,

Looks like he really hated communism to fought 3 wars against them!
