Dhaka overtakes Karachi on "Liveability Index 2022"

If Dhaka is better than Karachi, I can't imagine how living in Karachi will be.

So Harare in Zimbabwe fares better than both Dacca and Karachi. That really makes sense.

From what I saw on these travel shows, Harare is actually pretty livable and clean.

Do not know about shalwar kameez coming from pakistan, do you have any artcle on this?
Shalwar Kameez is a Central Asia, Afghanistan and Westerly Pakistan dress which spread into Punjab in middle of last century. Then after 1980s Indians and BD people also appropriated it. In UK every Bengali or Gujji female I saw as late as early 1980s wore Sari. Only some Indian Sikhs used Shalwar Kameez although often shalwar part was tight. Post 2000s this dress has been appropriated by all of India and BD.

I was actually looking for some articles,or research. I found the following which is quite intetesting as it even includes our history but would love to get more info.:::::

Mughals were the first ones to bring the concept of salwar kameez as we know it today. The Men & Women of the Mughal Empire wore beautiful and expensive clothes made from the finest materials and adorned themselves with jewelry from head to toe.

The garments of Mughal ladies were made of the finest muslins, silks, velvets, and brocades. The muslins used for their clothes were of three types: Ab-e-Rawan (running water), Baft Hawa (woven air), and Shabnam (evening dew). Muslins called Shabnam were brought from Dacca and were famous as Dhaka malmal.

Wiki:
The shalwar and kameez were introduced into South Asia by arriving Muslims in the north in the 13th century: at first worn by Muslim women, their use gradually spread, making them a regional style,[18][19][20] especially in the historical Punjab region.[17][21][22] The shalwar-kameez is a widely-worn,[23][24] and national dress,[25] of Pakistan. It is also widely worn by men in Afghanistan,[26] by women and some men in the Punjab region of India, from which it has been adopted by women throughout India,[27] and more generally South Asia.[28]

Can you please tell why that is,I have heard this before in this thread and genuinely want to know why it is.

As I see pakistan located in a dangerous spot having Afganistan and India as its neighbour also Iran a country under sanction. How can pakistan benifit from its geographical position is beyong my understanding. But you may have a better explanation and would love to hear.

In very short, Pakistan is right in middle of economic giants and their markets, on the other hand its a pathway to central asia which is enriched in energy and minerals. Thus.

How is Tehran's liveability index lower than any Indian city's? I had the impression it's a clean city with good infrastructure.

But at current political environment its in the middle of conflict zone.Having Iran afganistan under US sanctions, then India the biggest foe, how can pakistan call it an advantage?

Having lived in both, they both suck. Arguably the worst major cities of both nations because of piss-poor planning, overpopulation and government negligence. Both need immense work, the only difference is that dhaka seems to be improving somewhat while Karachi is going backwards as nobody is maintaining its infrastructure. On the other hand, dhaka has a much bigger population problem due to its small size compared to Karachi and that’s only getting worst.
Despite being so dirty, Karachi still arguably looks better than dhaka because it’s (comparatively) open, in dhaka you will feel claustrophobic due to all the high rise buildings, but dhaka is also greener, Karachi feels like a desert city.

The reason why Dhaka is overpopulated is that all govt. functions and industry are centered in Dhaka. This small city was not built to cope with two/three crore people living within its limits.

Once the apparel industry (and the related slums) are moved away to low cost areas in the country side (where over one hundred export zones are being built), workers don't have to come to Dhaka. They can live in places paying a lot less.

For the govt. functions, administration failed to decentralize, but as industry moves out of Dhaka, including high tech labor (there are high tech parks rising across the country), the pressure on Dhaka will decrease quite a bit.

Geography. Pakistans is the only one of the “STANS” that has sea shore. It has provided several deep water port facilities for their new allies - the Chinese - who have been very busy improving and expanding them. India and Iran are very welcome to threaten Chinese Own interests -:/

Damn when Karachi becomes even worse than Dhaka, who could have thought?
it makes you realize what they have done to the beautiful city - PPP, MQM, establishment all are responsible

You know the city, it was the most devaloped just couple decades ago

Now even peshwar, Sialkot and other mid tier cities are beating it hands down forget other big cities

This is so depressing

.
what a shameful thread man

so dhaka is 7th worse city of planet to live
while karachi is 5th worse city to live

but then karachi is not our capital . and bangladeshis enjoying it ?

by this logic we can also twist it

DHAKA IS WORSE CAPITAL OF SOUTH ASIA TO LIVABLE

.
Agreed. Paan by the way is more a immigrant introduction to Pakistan from India/BD. And I suspect you guys copied our dress mode in the last 30 years. I have noticed how BD people in UK used to wear Saris back in 1970s/80s but now have adopted the standard Pakistan Shalwar Kameez - this also has happened in India where until 1980s it was mostly found in Indian Punjab etc but now has spread east and south.

Sari is not considered Islamic-approved dress as it shows open belly. Shalwar Kameez (with dupatta/hijab) however is. That is one reason for adoption by Bangladeshi Muslims. In India adoption by Indian women may be more because of stylistic reasons.

I don't think anyone is enjoying it. We Bangladeshis know very well Dhaka is beyond redemption- it's dirty, chaotic, overpopulated. We need a new Capital city. It's actually shocking to see we are not at the bottom.
