Cousin marriages (we need to talk about this)

What do you think?

  • Don't do it full stop

  • It's fine so long as it doesn't become a generational habit

According to this survey, 9000 households out of 10000 households in haryana have girls from outside....it is more like one in 100 households from east india.. Haryanvi men only marry Eastern girls when they couldn't find bride in the state or in neighboring states...and those girls too come willingly knowing that their life will be much better here.
They are treated like family, not like slaves as this article mention.
You'll have to watch the DOCUMENTRY.

You know it's sad thing this is. I jog in my park every day and often see these special needs vans that bring children for fresh air. Too often the child/young adult sat in the wheelchair being pushed by some young female council care worker (probably straight out of school) is Pakistani most likely as @save_ghenda mentioned from Mirpur. That is not right. Those individuals trapped in their cursed bodies for life. Their parents need wacking no offence. Whilst we can't avoid misfortune but we know we can reduce it. But I know some Mirpuri familes who have grand, parent, child all married to cousins. The cvictims of this practice are the broken bodies struggle with life. And please don't take this as a attack against people from Mirpur but this is fact and needs addressing.

In the UK it's the norm
now for Britsh Arabs to marry Pakistanis. Pakistanis are marrying white British people, Indian Muslims from Gujurat state, Bangladeshis, Kurds, Turks and even Afro Carribean. The community is progressing not stuck in their old ways.
arabs are mainly down south you dont find them above greater manchester.

Does Islam encourage close cousin Marriage? I don't think Allah would encourage something this risky.
It is acceptable to marry cousins in Islam however it is not encouraged. It
Is best to marry fellow
Muslims from across the world as it strengthens the unity amoungst Muslims. If some chooses not to marry there
Is no sin, if they choose to marry their cousin there is no sin and if a Pakistani Muslim chooses to marry a black African muslim there is certainly no sin.

There are a few I know of where it's a one off thing. For example, in my family I know some distant relatives who did it but acknowledge that it should not be repeated.

I personally hope it stops, but it won't stop in Pakistan itself until people get educated. Our best bet currently is to try and convince overseas Pakistanis like ourselves to cut this practice.

Actually we shouldn't worry about Pakistanis in Pakistan, IMO its not that much of a problem there. Its UK where most of your population comes from small area and now for some it has become a norm. In Pakistan is more like one event thing then generational cycle like in UK.

Those are accidents or products of probabilty and nothing wrong with that but the issue here is the cultural practice repeated over generations.

I know what is happening in my region, more than these journalist...btw girls from outside state also means girls married in neighboring states like Rajasthan, punjab and west UP..they might have surveyed any border region.
And believe me there are no slaves or kidnapped girls here..why will anyone need slaves in 21st century?

there is a huge population of Libyans and Yemenis in Manchester and Merseyside. Over the past 15 years there have been large populations of Iraqi Kurds, mainly men settle in Pakistani dominated towns and some Kurdish men have married Pakistani women.

Well this the main reason of cousin marriages but my question was regarding new generation due to this marriage.
may be you can understand first cousin once removed by this chart:

Frank and emma is first cousins once removed in this case.

My parents were cousins my mums dad and my dads mum were brother and sister so what does that make my parents 1st cousins ?

Trust me it is very, very bad. Almost embarassingly bad that far right and racists have picked on. I know professionals in National Health Service and government are concerned but tread this subject very carefully lest they gave the far right racists reason to jump up and down.

Dont people have an inherent distaste for a cousin as a partner? Its genetically built in to our psyche.

My parents were cousins my mums dad and my dads mum were brother and sister so what does that make my parents 1st cousins ?

yes.

Its up to you to break the cycle and introduce new genes, save the family line.

Cousin Marriage is a disgusting practice, we need to illegalize it - I don't care what the Mullahs say. It has led to genetic/physical/mental degradation over the generations; we reverse this as Turkey has, but we'd need to stop the practice immediately.

I've read a dawn article informing how the average height decreased from 5'8/5'9 to 5'5.7.

While countries such as Turkey have banned this practice and reversed its effects.

My parents are very close cousins and my sister was born disabled.... I agree with you it should be banned right now!!!
