Cousin marriages (we need to talk about this)

What do you think?

  • Don't do it full stop

  • It's fine so long as it doesn't become a generational habit

I think you guys also don't marry with mother, grandmother and own tribe?

Yeah same as you mentioned about Haryanvi Rajputs. Can't marry within our own pind either. A while ago somebody married a girl from the same village (but different last name) in my mom's village and they had such a threat to their life that they ran away and immigrated to England.

.
My two cents on this - I think cousin marriages are bad. The research is pretty clear on this. The real problem is not one event (cousin marriage) but the repeated cycles.

Thank you for agreeing with me on this. It seems most people either don't believe the facts being presenting or exaggerate them.

.

It is incest, no need to sugarcoat it.

It's not, that's an incredibly dumb thing to say. It's nowhere near as dangerous and cousins are nowhere near as genetically similar, stop making stupid statements.

Same here, although i see it as a incest to marry among same gotras and other above mentioned gotras but there is no need to kill someone if a couple willingly does that.. individual should have right to marry atleast.

I believe there is enough evidence to discorage cousin marriages, especially for generations like in UK. Their side effects in UK are more visible for couple of reasons. Mirpuris migrated from villages around mangla dam and they make majority of UK Pakistanis. Add to the fact that people prefer to marry with in braderi even if not extended family. If there are dozen or so different braderis of Mirpuris that means more chances of inbreeding in already small genepool.

I haven't seen a single case of kidnapped..nor heard it from anyone..only heard itin news..only women i have seen seen have came from extremely poor backgrounds ..
I know a case where when the first case of a girl from Eastern india when she married a jat from north Rajasthan and she even bought her 2 younger sister with her and married one of them in rajasthan also because while she was starving in assam, here she has 3 cars on her door whenever she wants to go out
Al Jazeera documentey was aired regarding this issue only 2 months ago. Women from Assam Manipur were kidnapped by gangs and sold to gangs in Punjab Haryana

My two cents on this - I think cousin marriages are bad. The research is pretty clear on this. The real problem is not one event (cousin marriage) but the repeated cycles. One photocopy might be okay but if you keep making copies of those copies slowly 'faults' start aggregating. Go to any special needs school and you will see Pakistani origin children dominate the percentages. When the fvck is the Pakistani community going to recognize this? I often see those school vans carrying special needs children in my city and sadly too often I see Pak faces staring out from the bus. Seriously?

Symmetry is indication of healthy stock. I just see too many Pak people with ears going north and south. Nostrils bulging on one side. Eyes out of wack. Crouching posture. Too short and podgy. Too tall and skinny. I see this more amongst Mirpuri Pakistani's who I think have made cousin marriages almost a religious undertaking.

Although on this score I have seen Indian Gujrati and Banglas who take this asymmetry to altogether another level. Sikhs do very well compared to rest of Indians. These of course are generalizations I am giving or what they call in maths the 'mode'.

And producing statistics that Pak population has higher IQ then India etc is not going to help. It is my belief that cousin marriages is more recent phenomenon. In history the region that was Pakistan was too unstable and was riven with instability which would have caused much whipping of the genetic pool.

@Mugwop I am intrigued how you look. African people have been blessed with the best body frame that nature can endow. There is functional beauty to it that no other people can match. There may or may not be a IQ compensatory loss but often the physical gain is staggering.

ever met a pakistani puerto rican? dont............ there covered in ink.
i have not met many mixed raced south asains, but have seen quiet a few ethnic british with pakistani men, there kids have lighter skin but not white with grey/green eyes. and black/brown hair and some times dirty blonde.

unless done over numerous generations.
But that is where the problem is. Cousin marriages are not 'accidentel events' but have become ingrained cultural practices which are repeated again and again.

What is wrong here is not a event > marriage that happens with a cousin but a normative practice > that repeats cycles over generations. In too many Pakistan familes I am afraid cousin marriage is not a uniqiue event but a routine event that follows established practice.

Never heard of it mate..and in rural areas who is married to whom is known by everyone..there may have been one or two cases but 99℅ of the eastern girls in north and north west india are here willingly.

There are a few I know of where it's a one off thing. For example, in my family I know some distant relatives who did it but acknowledge that it should not be repeated.

I personally hope it stops, but it won't stop in Pakistan itself until people get educated. Our best bet currently is to try and convince overseas Pakistanis like ourselves to cut this practice.

According to this survey, 9000 households out of 10000 households in haryana have girls from outside....it is more like one in 100 households from east india.. Haryanvi men only marry Eastern girls when they couldn't find bride in the state or in neighboring states...and those girls too come willingly knowing that their life will be much better here.
They are treated like family, not like slaves as this article mention.

Everything is white, from hair, eyes lashes , whole white skin, Very sensitive skin even , one child was brown but he died too due to heart problem. Only one is alive, 5 year old same sensitivite skin, and he can't see well.
While 2 other cousin couple, they produced normal babies.

But there is always risk in cousion marriage
My parents have cousin marriage :( My sister was born disabled and past away few years ago.... :(... Close cousin marriage is sickening and should not be encouraged and even Doctors have said all this due to close cousin marriage of my parents because of my grandparents.... :(

In the UK it's the norm
now for Britsh Arabs to marry Pakistanis. Pakistanis are marrying white British people, Indian Muslims from Gujurat state, Bangladeshis, Kurds, Turks and even Afro Carribean. The community is progressing not stuck in their old ways.

Technically, Islam encourages genetic diversity. But yes marrying cousins is allowed, just not encouraged.
Does Islam encourage close cousin Marriage? I don't think Allah would encourage something this risky.
