Aslam-O-Alikum everyone,
Man this is the thing which i have been thinking for so long that could our F-7P/PGs be upgraded to BVR level and even with ability to see at night through embeded FLIR and can utilize ASRAAM with IR-Homing head???
And also Could our mirages be upgraded to like BVR and as well as precision strike capability, also having embeded FLIR and in case of precision strike poded version of IRIST. like we could upgrade about : 50 Mirage-III(BVR level with embeded FLIR to have night vision and to utilize ASRAAM) and about
50 Mirage-V(with presion strike capability with an IRIST pod and with embeded FLIR to have night vision and to utilize ASRAAM).
Although everyone might not agree but it would be great if done a Joint R&D with ITALY or U.K or FRANCE on the development of avionics like in 1998 and with completion in may be 3-5 years so we can start to upgrade our aircraft. And it will help us to get some edge over IAF

actually paf is replacing mirages and f-7 with jf-17 thunder.and making jf-17 more advance instead of old jets

sure.MiG-21 lancer can launch AA-10 missile while Singaporean F-5S can launch both AIM-7 and AIM-120.it depends on the radars actually

but why bother?

Stupid thread J-7P and Mirage ROSE are already BVR capable and Mirage ROSE upgrade has much more goodies then just tht.... J-7P are new *(were bought in 90s Weapon embargo decade and modified with italian Griffo radars n other goodies)

An advice before makin such threads kindly search abt the stuff....
PEACE

well no need to waste the money on upgrades these mirages should be giveto Pn and replace them with JF 17 which has better radar for air to air war and also replace F 7PG

I think PAF should still continue using F-7P/PG's against Indian Mig21, Mig 27 and Jaguars. They aren't useless as many believe. We are going to use these aircrafts for some years to come anyhow.

yes against mig 21 it is good but again indian also going to retire them with tejas

The problem with F-7P/PG is it's small nose. You can't squeeze in a radar big enough to perform BVR duties. These new F-7 series are mainly designed around maneuverability and hence has good low speed performance, and thus can perform reasonable ground attack role, unlike the IAF Mig-21Bisons, who's primary role is interception. India is a big country, so interceptors are essential for us to protect the large airspace. F-7 sacrificed speed for maneuverability, and Mig-21Bis/Bison sacrificed Maneuverability for Speed. Also these F-7 were purchased in a hurry when the tensions were high.

Mirage could already be BVR capable. Atleast that's what Wiki says.

I was talking about the time(1998) like if we did R&D on avionics and sensor development with France/Italy/U.K, it will be great to make a base line for JF-17 for future R&D to go on the new avionics development that will be fitted to JF-17s. Even after gaining the sensor technology we will be able to develop our own ASRAAM and AMRAAM/ALRAAM.

Both fighters in PAF service are BVR capable...

Here is my logic:
  1. China offers the KLJ-6F BVR capable radar for the F-7.
  2. I have it somewhere, but Janes reported years back, when China started developing the SD-10 that it was also supposed to be carried by the F-7s. The was from a Chinese afficial at some airshow. I could post the exct statement what I get home.
  3. Namibia and Bangladesh had Grifo-MG radars fitted on their F-7s, leaving the KLJ-6 which has BVR. Considering that the F-7 is more of an air defence fighter, I pressume they chose the Grifo-MG for its air-to-air capabilities.
  4. My conclussion is that the Grifo-MG is better than the KLJ-6 and it should therefore have BVR capability.

Here is a quote from Jane's Air Launched Weapons 2003: JDW: China SD-10 Missile Technology (maybe better than U.S. AIM-120 missile )
"... ...The SD-10 is not yet believed to be in PLAAF service, but is in an advanced stage of development and may have been released for operational test and evaluation with the air force. According to CATIC, the SD-10 can be carried by a range of aircraft including the J-7 (F-7), J-8 (F- and MiG-series fighters, or any Western aircraft that have been fitted with the missile's PF95 launcher and pylon... ...According to CATIC sources the missile has a range of 80 km. ... ..."
