Depending on it's package MiG-29 is better and more proven compared to the JF-17. It beats the Thunder's aerodynamic characteristics - through and through.

The friendship treaty still is valid, as russia declared itself the inheritor of soviet legacy,its treaties and debts...
If russia asks our help we are bound by them to help them either by supplying troops or by a new war front against china in case of a war between russia and china.......

you do realize that even china and the former USSR signed a treaty of friendship. it was technically valid even during the height of of the sino-soviet split. secondly i am having trouble believing that russia will go t o war against china for india(unless it had something serious at stake.. like its own survival) especially seeing as Siberia is mostly empty and there are more than 100 million Chinese just across the boarder, the logistics alone would be a nightmare.

practically speaking we can't say which one is better until unless china publishes full details of their projects, or they are fully tested in real battle scenarios.. But sad things is neither gonna happen anywhere soon.. So its quite useless to argue about this right now..

They never will. But does it matter? Electronics suites need to be replaced during the MLU to keep them modern. India opted for Indian ECM suite and western electronics on the MKI. On the MIg-29K they opted for some western equipment as well. What ever the reason, it seems as though Russian airframes sell better than the electronics, but then again Russia isn't exactly known to manufacture chipsets or DVD players.

I've never heard of this situation where China were threatening or insinuating the opening of a new front against India during the 1971 war. Can you provide some reliable sources? It would be an interesting read, especially considering that it would be impossible to sustain logistically at that time or even today.

This clause is not directly included, but an indirect language of helping india ie it needs to enter war on india's behalf if called for war....
It applies the same to india to help russia....

I think you're taking a leap in claiming China threatened India with another front when this was never remotely hinted at. On the other hand, the Americans had a very hostile attitude towards India which had the potential to escalate into full air support for Pakistan. I think absent Soviet support, the US would have provided air superiority and bombing support for Pakistan, along with assassinations of all prominent Pakistani (Bangladeshi) separatists. If that had happened, Bangladesh would have probably never happened.
