I think you're taking a leap in claiming China threatened India with another front when this was never remotely hinted at. On the other hand, the Americans had a very hostile attitude towards India which had the potential to escalate into full air support for Pakistan. I think absent Soviet support, the US would have provided air superiority and bombing support for Pakistan, along with assassinations of all prominent Pakistani (Bangladeshi) separatists. If that had happened, Bangladesh would have probably never happened.
Maybe it was true, but remember soviet union was very big that time it would have bombed pakistan apart from all directions if it were supported by USA....
And china did threaten india...
But indian general Sam Manekshaw impresses upon the leadership that chinese can never be trusted and war should be started when the snow covers the himalayan mountains in the north making it impossible for the chinese to start a war...
However they did threaten with troop build up , once they came to know the clause plus soviet union increased the troop number in chinese border , china backed off dude....
