BD To Seek $26 Billion From China for Power.

@TopCat: You sound so optimistic. If it's so much money to be made why don't Europeans or Americans or your new ally India run into BD? Are they stupid?
Why not, money is not free. China will get the money back on top of Chinse contractor will be making hell lot of money. Its all about business.
yes, there is alot of money but there is risk as well.
in case of Pakistan the reason why china can throw money is that it knows it has strong relationship and can manipulate any pakistani govt to its will, is that true for Bangladesh, answer is no....,, Bangladesh has to keep india happy too, so yes china will invest in Bangladesh but it might be more cautious or will want more profit

Actually we do not need to think in that way. Bangladesh and China are always friend unless India and Hasina together do something again the interest of China.

No what i mean is the relationship on a strategic level?? like who would BD support in the event of a Sino-India war? Or would it be neutral?(e.g Pakistan would support China, no doubt)- if it's neutral, then the relationship is not strategic but all about $$$ i guess

Since Hasina is in power, there is a 70% chance that BD will take the side of India.

Plus, USA is on India's side and against China, and Bangladesh can not go against USA so now there is 90% chance that BD will take the side of India, and 10% to be neutral.

But BD will not take the side of China when Hasina is in power, this is sure.

I guess we do not have any clear strategy for such situation.

Just as i thought- the relationship is a $$$-based one. What are your thoughts if China dams its portion of the Bhramaputra river(in antagonising India, but unwillingly, indirectly and negatively affecting BD downstream)

BD will protest only. And probably will support India in international court.

Singapore has always been against China. There is no point in discussing with him

China also has a dam in the upper reaches of the Mekong River, which has no adverse impact on the downstream. Instead, it is to help the people in the lower reaches of this year's drought.

.
BD will see only Chinese interests are not affected. .

RIGHT, as a world class awami liar and terrorist. Just like awami league rejected Chinese proposal to build deep sea port in Sonadia. Just like awami league rejected duty free access to Chinese market.

current regime (awami league) idiots think they can deceive everyone in the world. Oh dont use Bangladesh name, you are indian slave be so.

To cancel the deepwater port construction project is indeed a pity

Why BD have to support someone? Your leaders exactly knows and uunderstand about our foreign policy which is " Friendship to all, malice to none. " So no BD won't take side, and if being honest neither your leaders wants BD to get involved in a Sino-India situation.

BD won't speak a single word. And India won't be going anywhere near the international court on the issue. It will just make the vulnerable toward lawsuits from countries like PK,BD.

Hence the reason i enquired whether the realtionship is a $$$-based 1 or a close strategic 1.

'my leaders'? im from Singapore BTW.

Why Bangladesh should do india's bidding? india does not have self respect asking Bangladeshi to lobby China for its interest. What a pitty. india should talk directly to China on its issue. From Bangladesh prospective there is no issue China using dam to generate electricity. But india is diverting water from river and deriving Bangladesh from its due share.

get back to topic...

Yes,the people's opinion is clear on this issue. And both political parties understand it very well. A anti China government will never won a election or survive a first year in the office.
