Allahabad HC Permits ‘Azaan’ from Mosques Without Loudspeakers

The Allahabad High Court on Friday, 15 May allowed 'azaan' from mosques but said that the use of loudspeakers could not be permitted. The court said that 'azaan' was a part of Islam but using loudspeakers were not a part of the religion.

The bench comprising Justice Shashikant Gupta and Justice Ajit Kumar gave this ruling on separate petitions field by BSP MP Afzal Ansari and Syed Mohd Faizal of Farrukhabad.

The court said that using loudspeakers for ‘azaan’ was an infringement on the rights of others since it disturbed their sleep. The rights of one person must not infringe on the rights of others, the court observed.

The court allowed the 'muezzin' of the mosques to hold 'azaan' without loudspeakers. The court also asked the chief secretary to inform all district magistrates of the order accordingly.

It may be recalled that the district administration of Ghazipur had banned the use of loudspeakers for 'azaan' and BSP MP Afzal Ansari had written to the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Justice Govind Mathura in this regard.

Islam is 1400 years old. Quite certain loudspeakers weren't around for 1300 of those 1400 years. Certainly not essential then.

It is a call to prayers. You can have an app Or even a simple SMS. Why calling from one rooftop to another. Take help of modern non intrusive way

My home is already that far from Mosques that even Azan from loudspeaker don't get here, we keep it by time. I think it's a non-issue.

I am against any noise coming out of all the religious places daily .pray silently God can hear it clearly unlike with noise.

This is the most beautiful azan I have ever heard. You are blessed with such an outstanding voice. I'm a buddhist but I love to hear azan. It's so relaxing, peaceful and has something which pleases our senses. After hearing azan I feel very satisfied, complete. There is some kind of miracle in azan, it gives good vibes. Alhamdulillah I'll be soon converting into islam. Love from India

I do think South Asian Muslims are regressive and more ritualistic. There is no need to slaughter animals on the street on Baqra Eid. Do it in slaughterhouses. These days, you can get namaz timing updates on the mobile.

loud speakers should be banned for all pooja , azan,religious celebrations ,marriage , birthday party ,
no road blocking for religious rites , no park blocking for religious functions like durga pooja , namaz, tabligh .
if any body wants to do religious rites he should arrange commericial spaces by paying rent .

You mean prayers have already started and people hearing it come running and join the prayers .more efficient way is to announce 10 mins in advance the prayer time so that every one can join and pray together in silence.
