ABP India Summit 2023: Javed Akhtar Saw "No Visible Poverty" in Lahore, Pakistan

Anecdotal vignettes, while interesting, are not very helpful in benchmarking large complex nations. This author seems to be an expert social scientist and he has written about comparative development.

The depth of India’s strategic vision

The views are of an educated pakistani who had the rare opportunity to visit multiple places in India.

Usually visa is not given to pakistanis and those who make it are usually the religious pilgrims and Medical tourists who are too busy in their own world to make vlogs.

Also visa to pakistanis are issued to only one location, its very very rare to find a pakistani get Visa to visit multiple locations. That is why this vlog is special and rare.

In fact I am still confused as to how he got this visa, being an US citizen of pakistani heritage. Maybe he claimed Indian heritage via is Indian grandparents.

U.S. Citizen getting visa to India needs no confusion. More than a thousand U.S. tourists visit India every day.

Don’t you Pakistani Punjabis claim turk and Arab ancestry ? I am yet to see a Pakistani Punjabi who has a Punjabi name and follows Punjabi religion.
I know Punjab was colonised by Arabs , Afghans , Turks and Persians but so was rest of India so why did only Punjab , Sindh and Kashmir accepted islam in Majority ? I have never been able to understand this
Apart from that there is no history of empires from Punjab and Sindh , Gupta and Maurya Empire from Bihar , Chola Empire from South India , Maratha Empire from Maharashtra but I haven’t heard of any empire from Punjab
Don't take it to heart, if you invade Punjab from the east, they will revert back to Hinduism and Sikhism just as easily. A trial run proved this concept in '47, whereby many a woman and girls were left behind and duly reverted back to Sikhism.

US citizens with pakistani heritage do not get Indian visas.

If you are wondering why, look up David Coleman Headley.

Its obvious that state of poor in Pakistan and India is different. Indian rich are also on another level. Here in Pakistan all you need is land cruiser/prado to show off your elite status.

That’s true when Islamic invaders invaded them they accepted islam tomorrow if hindus invade them they will accept hinduism , If Christians then christianity , if chinese then they will become atheist , Buddhists Taoists etc

That is the correct analysis.

Pakistan is a poor country of rich people.
India is a rich country of poor people.

Our black economy is many times the size of the documented white economy.

An ill managed, ill engineered economy, which if managed right could put neighbors to shame.
Then how come Pakistan has lower average life expectancy , Higher infant and maternal mortality rate , low per capita consumption of power , fuel , Two Wheelers and 4 wheelers , Air Passenger traffic at Pakistani airports is also very low compared to Indian airports
If people are rich they would consume more , eat healthy , have better access to healthcare services , live longer

He may be saying that the absolute number of poor people is less in Pakistan than in India. That makes sense since India is so much larger. So, both can be true. Pakistan does have fewer number of poor people than India and is also a poorer country.

India is a democracy , leaders of all parties are involved in settling illegal slums in planned urban cities , no officer can demolish such illegal colonies because of vote powerc these slums carry, kejriwal is cashing on vote from these slums by giving free education and free electricity free hospitals , now from last three covid years they are getting free rations also .

That doesn't explain why the illegal slums can't be replaced by low-cost tenements publicly. Even something like:

would be improvement. These can be manufactured in India for say, $3,000 i.e., 300,000 rupees.

It's worth noting that the elites in Pakistan aren't the same ones who led the land at the time of the Arabs, Delhi Sultanate, or Mughals. Those elites were killed off by the British and replaced with tier-2 and tier-3 people. Those guys will do whatever it takes to get power.

Its primarily CORRUPTION, plain and simple.

Slums are vote banks and the poorer they are, the more Congress or Shiv sena or NCP they vote for.

The Middle class overwhelmingly vote or BJP.

So while Modi govt. has provided free housing for close to 2 Million families, they actually have to be implemented by the state. So while BJP states implements it, the Non BJP states do not.

Case in point is the Dharavi slum redevelopment project which was tendered and won by Dubai based Seclink Tech., the congress govt. blocked it and delayed it by demanding bribes. The project went on hold and was restarted only after the BJP govt. came to power in Maharashtra. Now the project has been retendered and won by Adani group and this again has been challanged by the Seclink tech in court. So again a delay, this time the judge will want money to rule in favour of the party who pays him more. This is what we call "independent judiciary" in India.

India is home to a quarter of the world’s hunger burden with nearly 224.3 million people undernourished in the country. The situation is even more dire among children under the age of five — 36.1 million are stunted, accounting for 31% being chronically malnourished.

India is among the least happy countries in the world—worse than even war-hit Ukraine

ndia is also worse off than neighbors like Nepal, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and others

India has been one of the least happy countries in the world in recent years.

It was ranked 126 out of 137 countries surveyed, according to the 2023 edition of the World Happiness Report released yesterday (March 20). It was placed worse than neighbors like Nepal, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and others. The country is worse off than even war-hit Ukraine.

The annual report for the 2020-2022 time period uses life evaluations from the Gallup World Polls, which survey a representative sample of adults from every country, to arrive at its conclusions.

A lack of social support and connections among citizens during the covid-19 pandemic has been identified as the key reason for Indians being so gloomy. The pandemic-induced lockdown left millions of Indians stuck in social isolation, leading up to stress and depression.

Experts said that a lack of social connections over long periods of time, along with severe unemployment, high inflation scenario and healthcare worries, took a toll on people’s mental health.

“While people in India were least likely to have had daily interactions with nearby friends or family, at 58%, they were among the most likely to say they had interacted with friends or family who live far away (42%),” the State of Social Connections study by Gallup, Meta, and academic advisers in 2022 stated. Moreover, there was no notable relationship between households and social support in India.

About 55% of Indian women said they “never” interacted with people from work or school in the past seven days, compared to 33% of men. Even social media platforms were of little help to Indians.

Nope - tughlaqnama is the original source and he was born in Punjab around dipalpur area according to amir khusro who wrote his biography when he was alive
There were plenty of people from Central Asia who were coming to Northwest India and Delhi to make a name for themselves before the Mongol invasions as well as post Mongol invasions. He could easily have been one of those unknown people.
This is where you are wrong
What's 100% true is that he was carried to his throne by khokhar tribesmen - that's not contested by anyone

If the climate didn't favor them how did they become powerful enough to literally change a King of the Delhi sultanate without any involvement from Turks, Persians, mongols etc - makes no sense
Even if he was carried to the throne by Khokhars, it doesn't in anyway prove that he was a Khokhar. As I have previously mentioned, Rajputs had a strong influence on who will come on the Mughal throne. Sons of Mughals used to vie Rajput rulers to get their support for the throne.
Amir khusro was a Persian, Punjabi was far from his language, according to you Ghazi Malik was Turk or something

First vaar poem that amir khusro wrote to honor his victory was in Punjabi - why would he do that

You're marahati, your poet is a Persian, your court language is Tamil

First poem to honor you - is in bangali - does that make any sense to you?

Btw court language doesn't matter, Persian was court language of every empire for so long even non Muslim one's sometimes
I have no idea why Amir Khusrow wrote in Punjabi to honor his victory but I'm pretty sure that there will be plenty of Persian accounts of him as well.
No, many non-Muslim empires had their own local court language. The court language of Vijaynagara empire for instance, was Kannada and Telugu. The court language of the Maratha empire was Marathi while that of the Ahom empire was Ahom. Non-Muslims tended to be more rooted to their land and proud about their own culture and language which continues to present day.
He was born in dipalpur or that general area according to tughlaqnama - no turk tribe was living there except for punjabi tribes, turk tribes only mixed into Afghanistan that too much later than the time period of Malik

So that tribe had to be a native tribe, as no other tribe existed in that general region - his tribe wasn't mentioned cause it was not a powerful clan and probably died - 100s of clans have died out in the region so that's not exactly weird
Assumptions. I would have agreed if you gave me a good source.

Take, for example, the Mughals. They are pretty clear where they came from. It's the same with the Rajputs, the Marathas, the rulers of the Vijaynagar empire. Hence, we are pretty sure about who the founding ruler was. However, with lack of evidence, and considering those times (13th-14th century), it is highly unlikely that the Turks and Persians would have allowed a Hind Muslim on the Delhi throne. The Delhi Sultanate were either fighting other Muslim kings of non-Indian origin or non-Muslim kings of Indian origin. Indian Muslims didn't have a great track record of forming their own empire.

Let's end it here. You are beating a dead horse.
