What's new

7hours & 310km/h, last sunday i(cnleio) just 'flying' half of China by CRH train

I would not think about train in Vietnam for atleast 3 years, before any improvement has been made to them.

For at least three years? What plan do you have for the next three years? Maybe you mean three decades?

Exactly. It is indeed less stressful. Air travel is fast, but, there is the time spent to get to the airport, then security checks. If you are on economy and has stop-overs, you may end up spending an equal amount of time as you would have on an HSR.

The point is not kill or defame flying. Both (HSR and flight) have their own rationale (weaknesses and strengths).

The beauty lies in the fact that we have choices. That's, of course, thanks to China's planners and doers.

Yes. I also find that passengers taking trains seems a little less edgy than plane flyers, lol. Taking trains allow us to see transformation across our country, something I really enjoy. It really makes you wonder how long will the building continue, how will it look in 10, 20 years time.

at initial I typed 5 years, but revised to at least 3 years, I never want to underestimate any effort to improve it that started recently. A senior engineer suggest a plan to improve the speed to 200km+ by domestic build for only 1 year.

Personally, and as a frequent economy-class flier, I find train to be more comfortable.

I hate the lengthy security checks at the airports (although I understand and would never complain so long as it provides me with greater security).

As you point out, of the greatest advantages of China's HSR is to be able to view the scenery, go to the dining car and enjoy a decent meal, and, the chance to go out at the stop-overs and stretch your muscles.

And all on the solid and secure bosom of the mother earth. :)

American has less motivation to have such a Shinkansen, they prefer air passenger as fast means of transport, and cars as hobby.

Btw, for an overnight sleep on train travel, it saves hotel room cost too.

:cuckoo:

How does that count as saving your hotel cost when you're not even at the destination yet? Wouldn't it be easier to take off later than to makeup stupid excuses for riding a slow train?

Why not take planes?
Discount air ticket usually cost less.
Of course train travel is more comfortable and less delay...

7hours & 310km/h, last sunday i just 'flying' half of China by CRH train

This night im playing my smartphone, and found last sunday(2015.1.18) taking CRH train pics from ZhenZhou city of HeNan province to ShenZhen city of GuangDong province, 1,900km distance from two different China cities.

Pls let me show these real pics on a 300~310km/h high-speed train, it's about 1.18-12:20pm left ZhenZhou train station & 1.18-7:30pm reached ShenZhen city which close to HongKong. I bought a 2nd-class ticket, cost 750 RMB(anyway cheaper than a airline ticket).

The CRH train just left ZhenZhou train station, speed up to 278km/h

Usually you only need to book the train online
Then when you arrive at station, use your ID card to board on trains..
Usually very easy and fast..
For foreign without Chinese ID, you may need to get a paper ticket..
If you have HSR in Vietnam, then the travel time will be much shorter.

nice post, @cnleio ... how did you book and manage to be on board at the station? is it easy and fast ? any experience ?

because as I read from that 7 hours are just the travelling time of the train

it takes 1 day and a half to travel by railway in our country ( from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city )
better I take an air ticket for a 2 hours flight, cost about 250 RMB for one way.

In China, air ticket cost depends on the discount rate.
If you can get a high discount air ticket, it will be less expensive than trains.
So usually you need to check the air ticket and decide which to take.

What people complain more on planes is time to and from airport, while train station is close to city center.
Also there is often delay of planes while HSR is almost always on time.
Vietnam can build a single line HSR to connector south and north country.
It is pretty good.

American has less motivation to have such a Shinkansen, they prefer air passenger as fast means of transport, and cars as hobby.

@cnleio : is it easy and cheap to really fly in China? I read from your post it's quite expensive and not comfortable ?
anyway, it saves time. I just checked jetstar rate tomorrow, it costs me about 800,000 vnd ( approx. 35 USD or 250 RMB ) to travel from Hanoi to HCMC ( 2 hours 15 mins flight ), and yes it takes 20min from Hanoi center to the Airport

air travel in Vietnam is the only choice for fast moving, especially while our railway is so bad.

To Sapa from Hanoi, we prefer an overnight ride or 5-6 hours of driving.
for a holiday in Sapa, we finish the work on Friday, take a ride overnight and enjoy the holiday next morning, another night in hotel and Sunday evening back to Hanoi. Just one night sleep in Sapa.

Bring us Liu Zhijun and we will be back travelling at 350km/h。:argh:

The ticket cost depend on how far kilometers u will go ...

1. Generally the CRH(300km/h, less stations stop) ticket more expensive than normal China train(200km/h, many stations stop), but it can save 1/2 time for passengers.
2. For <1,000km travel, the train ticket is cheaper than airline ticket. But for the travel from South China to North China between >1,000km distance, compared with costs the airline only more expensive than 200~300RMB. The airline only can carry 100+ passengers each flight, the CRH train can carry 1,000+ passengers each time and more goods.

U should tell me how far from Vietnam Hanoi city to HCMC city ? Then i can discuss it.

And why i chose the train or CRH between HeNan province and GuangDong province, coz it's a free travel for me and my company will reimburse all train cost =).

Yes the discount air ticket cheaper than CRH between HeNan province and GuangDong province, but i found it sell out in that time & my company can reimburse train cost. :partay: This week i will go GuangZhou city, also will choose 36minutes CRH train only 74RMB.

let imagine you are a tourist and moving from one place to another place during your trip,
do you know in some countries the room rate would be 100+ USD / night and you still have to take time for travelling separately ?

great to have a free ride on new HSR, cnleio

i also have free ride on scooter behind nice our women

.

So no matter how far, travel by air still more expensive than HSR in China ?
Please calculate for a distance about 1,300 km for air travel and 1,726 km for railway ( Hanoi - HCMC )

Well, what's the point of traveling when you couldn't even afford the cost? You might as well stay home than to spend more time in a train instead where you wanted to be "to save hotel cost".
