Can today's India compare to China around 15 years ago?

Wonder what is your post all about.
Why bring up Indians in the US?
The comparison here is between China and India.
Why Indians always want to rely on their daddies in all their endeavors.
Without support from their 2 daddies the US and Russia, there will be no Mars probe.
India don't even have the technology to make a proper satellite.

3 atomic clocks fail on 1 Indian satellite

Failing clocks in space worry for India’s GPS
The failure of seven of the 21 clocks in the constellation has, however, raised concerns.

Indians must learn to stand on their own credentials, not always depend on the shoulders of their daddies.
Don't keep touting Indians slaving for US billionaires instead of for their homeland as a proud achievement.
It should instead be shameful because there are no enterprise at their 3rd world home for them to develop and work on.
Whereas the Chinese strive to make China the best the Indians slave for their former white masters to continue their control over the world order while their homeland continue to be a SHITHOLE.

The clocks that failed were made in Switzerland.

ESA Galileo's clocks have also failed.

So now we have decided to use our own clocks.
https://www.livemint.com/Science/qA...lite-navigation-system-to-work-on-Indian.html
India today took a major step towards indigenisation as Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s regional positioning system ‘NAVIC’ will now rely on Indian atomic clocks.

The Americans and Russians had nothing to do with India's Mars mission.

Many Indians here like to bring up what Indians earn in the US as a proof of Indian's superiority, but this group is hardly a representative of 1.3 billion their countrymen in India. In fact, it is actually a curse to India's own development. In a country, if the best educated young people make working overseas as their life time goal, and never looking back once becoming FOB, it says something about the opportunity of that country.

India has its potential, but it needs to start taking its education quality problem seriously, otherwise, the potential will be nothing but potential. :P

Yes, it is representative of all Indians. Here's some proof.

Indian students make substantial gains in mathematics and critical thinking skills in the first two years of their education compared to their counterparts in China and Russia,

This article talks about how Indian engineering students are better than Russian and Chinese students, but they suffer due to lack of infrastructure and resources.

That's why when we go to the US, we start kicking *** left, right and center. This is what @Nilgiri is talking about. That's also why we are running companies like Microsoft and Google, plus tons of other companies.

according to?????

Again according to????? I am seeing good amount of reverse-brain drain happening now and gathering much pace. I'd rather people that cannot be absorbed organically by India's development stage (stomped on by socialism brutally for 50+ years), leave and acquire wealth and knowledge and experience they otherwise could not....rather than suffocate domestically. Then as India ramps up, it re-absorbs what they have done that they otherwise could not have done to anywhere that extent. Its becoming easier now as the world gets more globalised+new tech savvy compared to say the cold war.

India has its potential, but it needs to start taking its education quality problem seriously, otherwise, the potential will be nothing but potential.

Again you are quite uninformed on the developments taking place (example how specific 3rd party directed surveying is now taking place, along with resource/results mapping never done before). I don't really blame you for it really, you are not Indian after all....so the usual vanilla article through some filter/recycling is what is used as the pure notion of "reality".

Also you are quite right to fact check the Indian trolls right back in any kind of apples to apples way that can be mustered credibly... I have zero issue on that too. But most of the CPC trolls do not do this, and frankly refuse to evolve beyond copy and paste the same ol...

So are you telling me Indians working in the US represent the average education/intellectual level of all Indians? If it is the case, a question begs an answer as why Indians can't build their own country but have to work in foreign land to realize their potential?

.
Then something must be very wrong with India.

Yep its called the inertia of 50+ year socialism (a foreign imposed construct because of the "feelz" afforded to political elite) and the identity politics that have taken strong root (in politics) for the same feelz as well.

Other than that there are no real brakes being applied these days at least....but those 2 are significant enough to play a huge role in creating the dissonance between how Indians perform outside and inside their country.

That in itself creates a pressure for changing the internal dynamics (this was not even a sustained conversation like it is now at any significant level during my parents generation) back to how they were during the golden ages of Indian civilisation and also drawing from genuine success stories (of large but largely non-homogeneous population countries) worldwide today while not ignoring our own (given the resolution afforded by the decentralisation in play).

Its all there in the reply. Unfettered Socialism + identity politics (of unfettered post-industrial democracy applied to agrarian base country) are the largest two culprits, imposed by a political elite that took over from British Raj. We have come a long way in kicking them away directly, but the damage and inertia from it will take a fair while to fix. The good that was also done in the meantime is helping instrumentally now and accelerating the country like at no other time in its modern incarnation.

It is quite creative to blame all India's problem on socialism. By the way, was't India a "democracy" where people get to choose their leaders, so ultimately Indian should be responsible for whatever government decided to do? Why 1.3 billion with the quality of Indians in the US can't choose a right government to lead them to prosperity?

It is Indians who failed the democracy or democracy failed India?

The best of the best among Indians go to IIT.

Indians use MIT, Stanford etc as safety schools. So the ones who do not get into the IITs and have the money for it leave to the US, UK etc.

Watch the first minute, you will understand.

ITT ranking in the world is like 250, so much for the "best of the best".

ITT ranking in the world is like 250, so much for the "best of the best".

The rankings take into account infrastructure and research also. It's obvious that richer countries have better infrastructure and have more funds for research.

The international rankings do not deter the best of the best to get into the IITs because the reality of education is not based on rankings, it is based on what's the university is offering and what's best for you.

Hell, give it another 20 years, you may end up seeing only Indian universities in the tech rankings. Who knows? What's holding us back is our financial status after all.

Process of deduction + occam's razor. What was there when India was doing good minus what is there when India is doing bad. You can have a read of Adam Smith's take (no where near the authority on the matter, but its a foreign one and is interesting) on India at some point (even under the early colonialism taking root) w.r.t the US starting out on its own at that time for just one example. Why does political authoritarianism affect grander society/civilisation esp when it tries to influence or substitute the free market on a commodity allocation basis? This is a deep subject by itself.

I wouldn't say "all" either...but definitely largely, especially the things people/trolls want to compare in some apples to apples way for internet feelz in some minute drop of time with no larger context or even a rudimentary historical study.

By the way, was't India a "democracy" where people get to choose their leaders, so ultimately Indian should be responsible for whatever government decided to do?

The problem lies in the form and type of democracy applied and how it was applied. A largely post industrial system designed with homogeneous population in mind and then laundered through a City of London+Westminster cartel liberal attitude (universal suffrage for the feelz) on the matter was never the correct system (esp applied all at once than ramped) for the first chunk of India's development (given it was agrarian, bottom up democracy historically combined with its natural mercantile economics and non-homogeneous population when looking at national level....and terrible extraction had been conducted over centuries from it economically and socially).....especially when tagged on to Socialist Fabianism tied to it at the hip as well (and offered as though one cannot exist without the other).

Sorry man, but its a really long discussion to get into....dont really have the time or inclination for it here. Its my opinion in the end of course, TIFWIW.

It is Indians who failed the democracy or democracy failed India?

The "reset" elite failed India...well just a few among them actually (but they were at the top power-wise and quite anti-democratic in their attitude and thought ironically enough). There is no failure inherent in either India/Indians or democracy....it was the specific application/version of one to the other (under the unquestioned Aegis of authoritarian economic extraction/deployment by govt that is Socialism) and the short time frame involved combined with a systemic haughtiness and paranoia towards all local indigenous culture/history on the issue.

Now its all about fixing this current mess inherited from a previous bigger mess that was inherited from an even larger mess...and doing the best we can in the interim. India is going fine if you understand this context of the layers and their inertias.

India's total failure is partly from their blind craziness about UKstyle white democracy.
And, they adopt that white democracy in the worst way, mixed with caste/religion/race politics.

There is no way out of that vicious circle.

Please, don't we have enough of MANUFACTURED EXCUSES for why Indian SUCKS.
Come back with RESULTS, don't bore us with GANGA EXCUSES.
